    Getting that $600 rent down to the $250 which is totally fine is the key . The $350 difference is a Lot of $ there . I saw brand new fully furnished apts with elevator , laundry In unit , etc. for $250 right in that area in May . You can walk everywhere you need , the beach is right there . Grab taxi or Grab Motorbike for odd longer local trips . Don't even need a scooter

This guy is paying way over the odds, The problem is Hes in the City where you pay 10X more to live due to the Tourists, Get out of the City to the smaller towns it Cheaper less pollution and frankly better people. These Asian countries sound like a great life but I wonder how good the healthcare system is. I’m sure with basic stuff, it’s ok but what about serious stuff like heart issues, cancer?

    • @timbat4899
      @timbat4899 2 месяца назад +1

      @@nala3038 Hi, lived and worked in Asia for several years prior to retirement. Lived in Danang for almost 2 years. Had several peers (westerners who worked in Asia, many married Asian women and elected to stay in Vietnam.) This marriage addresses the visa issue, which is not available in some countries or is expensive or the goal post is regularly moved (Thailand often does this). Vietnam doesn’t want expats who don’t have cash and lots of it. Their visa options exhibit this clearly. Years ago they offered a one year multiple entry visa (must leave and re-enter every 90 days). After Covid, they have not offered this.
      What you will discover in Vietnam regarding health insurance is, it’s available you but it’s more of an excess policy and is only sold through your 75th year. Thus, when you turn 76, you are uninsurable. Plus the first year of the policy, they attach an endorsement, excluding all previous illnesses, which is removed at the first renewal. Must pay the annual premium up front before they will issue the policy (cash only).
      Having spent more time working outside the US than most and knowing the cultures, retirement options you are best to locate a cheap place in US than foreign countries if you are 70+, have health problems. The doctors are actually pretty good in many of the countries. That said, RX is a big problem if you have certain illnesses. Most drugs are very cheap but some aren’t available (depending on country) and some are very expensive where they are cheap in US.
      I was in Panama for almost 2 years. Their generic drugs are inexpensive but not as cheap as Vietnam. Other drugs for diabetes, were outrageous in price. Other heart drugs were simply not available because there was no generic option. That said, one of my UK colleagues also worked in Singapore, married a Vietnamese and retired in Danang. He had a heart attack and went to HCMC to have stents. Surgery went well and he recovered quickly. Yet, they prescribed old drugs compared to what US and western doctors prescribe (Brilinta), which is commonly not available in most countries. Time will tell if this ends up being an issue for him and others who take similar path. He had basically shut the door for returning to UK so this was his consequences.
      Hope this helps. I sold my home in US and when I returned bought a place in TN. Love many countries but every country has its downside.
      Best

    This one was very eye opening. But I would have liked to know how much he spends including the temporary trips to other countries. Like airfare, hotels, food. He must have a budget for that?

      Hi. You can either do a border run which cost $150 with this company including a taxi but you return the same day. What I did was just went to Thailand for almost some months and it cost me about $1500 total. I have a good situation here where the apartment that I’m in doesn’t charge me any money while I leave they just rent it out, so basically it was an extra five dollars every three months

      @@VagabondAwakeyes, i thought it was funny when he says "so its your job, you make enough money from the video thing?".... Separately though it was surprising that he was lying in bed to interview with you here, and how he mispronounces Puerto(poo-wair-to) as "Porto", given that he lived in MX. It takes away from his seriousness/ credibility as a reference on the subjects, but that's just my standards, for me. Maybe he has to maintain a cool guy DJ vibe persona. Party on!

    I would like to see a vlogger show where the good restaurants are located in Danang. As a two week millionaire (pun intended), I found the beach devoid of any decent restaurants. I found most of the restaurants were seafood tank style. You pick this overpriced shellfish and get a whopping bill. It was also strange how the locals only visited the beach at 0530 and it was a ghost town until 1700.

    I'd go to Da Nang too if the Vietnamese would loop a few zeros off their currency. I get flustered when I have to pay 10,000 dong for a piece of fruit or something. Then when my landlord tells me my rent is six million dong a month I almost had a heart attack!

      Long term, for sure. In retirement, many people have a “vacation” period which can last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. He’s traveling and exploring right now. He’ll eventually hit that phase where you get bored and want to find something more to give meaning and purpose to life. Almost everyone goes through this phase.
