I've visited Queretaro and Arequipa in Latin America. I will visit Guatamala early next year. I'm currently traveling through Southeast Asia (Thailand, KL, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia plus India and Sri Lanka). There are places with good weather (wherever they grow coffee and tea); but for the most part the weather is hot, hotter, and even hotter as well as wet, wetter, and "wow, another road got washed out." (Baguio's weather was nice, but those damned hills! 😟) I love the food in SE Asia, but IMO it's not worth having to shower and change clothes 2-3 times a day. Latin America has emerged at the top of my list, because it also has significantly easier languages (Spanish and Portugese) to learn versus Thai, Bahasa, Vietnamese, ...
@@Amanda_downunder If you use common sense - not visiting active warzones or staggering home drunk late at night - then you can to a great degree avoid putting yourself at risk. So I do think I'll be putting down roots in Latin America. During my South and Southeast Asian travels, I've determined that for me the weather is of greater importance than the tasty local food. I tend to stay in air conditioning when it's oppressive or monsoonal outside, and locking myself indoors is not my idea of a good retirement. I am going to visit Cayala in Guatamala, as it is at the extreme of being the high class lifestyle removed from the everyday normal of the rest of the country. I had a similar experience visiting Bonifacio Global City in Manila, Philippines. Not having visited yet, I can't put Cayala on my shortlist of retirement locales. That list so far has the Miraflores and Barranco neighborhoods of Lima, Peru; Chapinero in Bogota, Laureles in Medellin; and the colonial parts of Oaxaca and Queretaro, Mexico. The ease/difficulty of learning the local language is also an important consideration. If you don't learn the local language, then you are severely limiting your ability to assimilate into the local culture. I'm wondering why you would state Koh Samui is a good place to retire in Thailand? I lived in Thailand previously and know there are a lot nicer places. In my experience, I found Koh Samui way too chaotic - overflowing with tourists. I would suggest some northern areas. Also, other places you suggest seem like touristy areas. Perhaps it's because everything is accessible?
Great point. We are all different. These are our favorites. But everyone is different. The key so to go there and explore and find the right place for you.
It turns out that the places popular with tourists (1) are popular for a reason like being beautiful, fun, and offer a nice lifestyle (2) will cater to foreigners, so when you get tired of local food _every day_, you will have foreign restaurant options, supermarkets with foreign food sections, malls with foreign brands and clothes that will fit you (3) are more likely to be English/etc speaking and have services (med, dental, pet, shipping) for foreigners (4) but sure, they are crowded at least seasonally, and cost more. I don't know Koh Samui, but even in Phuket or Hoi An or Bali, the tourists are in a small concentrated zone, and it's possible to live just outside that zone.

I need you to pick a island or country in southeast asian where US citizens can stay long period with extending the visa.
Sounds like the Philippines. Cambodia has an easy visa too.
I am looking for countries that do not have an age requirement, as I am 47. I do not have pension either, looking for a country that is ok with just being able to take care of myself financially with no proof of income or pension or requirement to buy property. Any suggestions?
Several countries allow you to show savings rather than income. Mexico is one example mentioned in the video, but there are others.
@@kevinsmith9899 What are some others?
Paraguay would be a very good option for you. They just require a very clean criminal record.

@@VagabondAwake Thanks for the video. I am not sure I want to move from country to country, I would prefer to find a country I like and establish a life there. Is this something I should do on my own or should I hire a company / person to assist me?
Arent typhoons common in Philippines, which areas to avoid?

The opening where you are carrying the exotic beauty down the beach like a Pirate 👍
If you smiled we are happy!
Cool. When I see Dan, I am going to have that pirate image of him now. 🦜🗡⛵
Hi Dan, not a biggie but it is shenGen not shenJen, just FYI 🙂
Nice video but no details regarding healthcare (except Thailand and Indonesia). One might be able to live on $1500/month somewhere but if medical care sucks then you’re SOL.
If you got serious health problems, don’t go to the Philippines
Healthcare is top quality and private health insurance is very affordable. Can you imagine that as an American?
Exactly. Without a nest egg or international insurance, you are better living in your home country, and allowing yourselves to take trips with short term travel insurance.
@@boink800 I can because I grew up in France but my point was that they didn’t really talk about it other than the two countries. I’m not sure that Peru has adequate healthcare
@@peteaulit If you use the Private Health Care system in Peru, that has world class heath care -- comparable to that in France.
Curious, what about Japan?
Beautiful place. Just bring deeper pockets.
What about Bulgaria?
Love it. Not in the top 12 in the world for us though.
In all your videos you mention costs but don’t specify costs for singles or couples!
Thanks for the feedback. :-)
Turkey will lose a lot of people to Georgia Albania, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Moldova, stay 1 year in 20 countries or buy and stay 5 to 7 years.
Foreigners can buy house here
The world is my retirement home.
You have great taste.
I've been to 110 countries...
Amazing.
Granted, there's alot more Americans who try the Philippines, but let's ask ourselves? Have we heard of "any" guy disappointed with his Vietnamese girlfriend or wife??? 😂

No Africa, no central/South Asia, still many countries for you guys to checkout!
There aren't any African nations that are viable retirement places. Political instability, extremely high crime in most areas, venomous snakes of many varieties, and all sorts of diseases. There are plenty of reasons why so many pay to leave the continent. Having spent plenty of years on that continent and a few in SE Asia, I know from experience.
Africa? Are you kidding me? 😂😂😂
Maybe Bald and Bankrupt can help you. He's got India, Uganda, Kyrgyzstan and many more lovely places covered.
@@formica. I’ve been to Morocco, Kenya, Gambia, Ethiopia, and Madagascar, every country is very different, lots of culture and experiences for anyone that’s curious and adventurous. 😎
@@richardjenkins4182 Namibia is a stable democracy and almost like an island with the desert that surrounds it. They speak English and Windhoek and Walvis Bay have dry and reasonably warm to mild climates.
