Hey folks. Thanks for all the great responses and interest in this version. I only wish I had practiced it for a few more weeks before posting! Anyhow, there are NO TABS for this. The sheet music is readily available, and the tuning is listed above. Have fun!
I've been coming back to this video for about 14 years. The best guitar version of this Cello Suite. We played this song in the car for my children when they were wee little , then as teens, and I'm about to send it to them again as adults.
One of the best performances of this piece - so many play this without the intention of FORWARD MOTION. Bach moves over the bar line! Well played maestro!
Wow - I've been playing this for years on the standard classical D-tuning. Love the thumb pick, the attitude, the "what the frick" Keaggy-esque tuning and your entire interpretation. Fantastic offering.
Fantastic transcription and performance. Beats the standard tuning and D-tuning versions with a stick. Your version flows and sings. Best ever. Give us more please. Bach was anything but purist so I'm sure he would have liked how effortless you make this sound.
One of the best transcriptions/steel string guitar compositions of this piece on RUclips, lucid, expressive and captivating, steel strings have a lot more resonance than classical style guitars, harder to play but evidently worthwhile as this piece suggests.
Fantastic! Great arrangement, and it is good to hear classical on a steel string. I love nylon string guitars, but steel string guitars play classical wonderfully in a way all their own.
For everyone interested in the TAB, I have this to say: I too, think guitarvangelist rendered a beautiful job of Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, Prelude. An exquisite performance perfectly suited for CGDGAD tuning! Instead of waiting for a TAB, I decided to pick out the piece by ear, note by note. I've been working on this for three weeks every night. I can now play the first half of this Prelude by memory, and I'm still working on it nightly. Try doing this, you'll surprise yourself.
Sounds great, nice arrangement, the guitar sounds great too, thanks also to Amigomusica for sending me this vid, it's always nice to see so many talented musicians on YT!
You really shouldn't have an arrangement this awesome and not tab it for the masses. Do a service to your fellow man! It will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Seriously, best arrangement I've ever heard. Fantastic.
Thanks for the comments. It's a Neumann TLM 103 mic through an Apogee Mini Me preamp, with a little post mixing in Pro Tools. Good gear certainly helps.
wow that really had me thinking. I can feel emotion in every chord when you strum every string with your fingers, and occasionally your pick. Anyway, 5 stars. Thanks again! -Daniel
Bloody beautiful, this is a piece I will be working on all my playing life, thanks for reminding me I don’t need to run out and buy a classical guitar, I will keep practicing an hope I can get to sound something like this, cheers
the best guitar version, serious talent. its played seemingly in open c. not a very common tuning on guitar. the best you will get , encapsulates the tune perfect, a pleasure, enjoy.
wow, that song piece always takes me on an emotional roller coaster.. i imagine a very sad story with a very happy ending.. its beautiful and you played it like you were the author.
Perfection!... I transcribed the suite myself, and ended up playing it in C, open tuning... "Bleh!" I say!!! G has such a more robust feel, even over the standard D classical guitar approach... Good show, mate!
The purists can jump, this is just so rich in the low C tuning and your transcription is a real treat. Gets my 5 star approval

Wow in 2024 I still come back to this ever so sweet rendition, and it puts me in a pensive mood. I feel sad, grateful but also hopeful
bach would be proud of you man.
what I really like in your version is the bass notes that can be heard greatfully.
cheers.

Wow. Beautiful. I love Bach.
One of the best performances of Bach Cello Suite No.1 on guitar I ever heard. Thanks
Probably the most beautiful version of Cello Suite on guitar. The alt tuning makes it work prefect.
Fantastic transcription and performance. Beats the standard tuning and D-tuning versions with a stick. Your version flows and sings. Best ever. Give us more please. Bach was anything but purist so I'm sure he would have liked how effortless you make this sound.
