  • #SGR #Railway #SGRprojects #Rwanda is one the countries with no rail network. The country is planning to build an #SGR linking it with Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and DRC. The rail will have four sections with the #Isaka #Rusumo section being prioritised to link the landlocked country with Daresalaam Port in Tanzania. Despite the project being planned to kick off in 2018 , no work has started on the ground due to failure to secure finances, among other issues.

They talked about this project when I was in secondary school I don't why it delayed.
It's only the only project that the government has not reached effectively.
I pray 🎉it gets done soon.

RWANDA 🇷🇼 GDP is low that such huge project will leave ahole in its expenditure, thus Private Public Intiative,No one showing interest coz container volumes are minimal. Burundi 🇧🇮 is viable option for DRC 🇨🇩

Taking a PPM model may further delay the project. A long term loan would be the most feasible option. Also, a "no project" can be an option and the country relies wholly on existing infrastructure especially when Tanzania and Burundi completes their sections. However, for strategic reasons, Rwanda has to do something about the SGR and fast.

Does Rwanda need a railroad. Definitely. As does the DRC. Does East Africa need the Kenyan DRC. Definitely. Just like East Africa needs the Tanzanian SGR and a functioning TAZARA SGR in Zambia and Tz. However, all three are at this time to closely related to the country of origin. Does it make sense for Arusha to have an SGR connection to Nairobi. Yes! Whyyhant it been dow? East DRC, with its rich volcanic soil, could in10 years become the top coffee growing area in the world. When land reform was finished in Rwanda. To may babaas were being grown. The government had to get farmers to grow fewer bananas. There was no way to ship surplus bananas to market. EFU countries need a standard manufacturing tax code for all countries. With manufacturing parks in AL cities of more then 2000 people.

Thats true. As we open up our regions , it should not be all about trading with overseas markets but also within the EAC. Value addition is the way to go, with establishment of manufacturing parks in different parts of EAC, each region specializing in what they can do better.

DR CONGO Will never let any serious joint project to go through Rwanda,Best chance is probably Burundi.

The conflict between the two countries is serious and need to be resolved quickly, otherwise great joint development initiatives may not be realized.

DRC is a problem not only in east Africa but to the whole Africa. Its a shame that a country very rich cant mobilze its resources but always blame there neighbours just because of ethnic background corruption greed and much more which is a cause all conflicts,It all starts with good leadership.

@@Kante-om6mr I dont think DRC is the problem perse, there are several factors that play out most of which are external.

@@Kante-om6mr You can say whatever you like but i can assure you that Congo will never let or allow any economic tie with Rwanda.Burundi will get a better deal maybe.Coz also there's projects to build big ports on Tanganyika lake between DR Congo and Tanzania to bypass the little leverage Rwanda thinks they have on this so called Railway project. If Burundi also starts acting greedy, there will be no option but to link Dar es salaam straight to DR Congo through lake Tanganyika.

@@righteouskongo1 I presume the problem is not with the people of Rwanda or DRC but the leadership in two countries. With time, all these problems will be overcome, especially when leaders who are truly committed to regional peace and development take charge. These conflicts derail development in the region and also hinder the integration efforts.
