I just finished milking a first freshener after two years of great milking. She just went into heat and made it clear today that she was done being milked so we are done. She was pining for our male and we let her have her way which means we will have February babies and sometimes difficult winters but we have a nice warm barn to keep them in. I had to walk to the barn in a blizzard last year when we had our babies and they did fine, momma kept a close eye on them.
I have two boys that are incredibly tame that are walked, handled and shown all the time. For the most part I trust them to be well behaved and even enjoy cuddles or head scratches but if they are in rut and/or around does I am always super cautious of them. Although my boys have not acted out under those circumstances it is very important to act like the will to keep yourself safe.
Your goats are all so beautiful and love you so much it is very endearing to watch. Money is a very handsome and nice disposition appearing buck. I hope you had good success. I’ve just bought a buck, a sweet Nigerian dwarf for my dwarf dam, Elizabeth. He arrives in a few days and I hope she is as taken with him as I was.
Hi there, I have 20+ goats, I started with 2does(alil older) and the buck was certainly mid-to old, right now I have 2 young bucks that are girl crazy...my youngest doe,7,8 months old...I think is pregnant
I have a Nubian boer cross doe that has been accidentally bred. She’s a first freshener. We mostly have pure boer goats but wanted to mix in a dairy breed to get more milk (we just weren’t ready to breed her yet she is old enough). She started to bag up early April…are Nubians like Boers where first fresheners bag a month before kidding or do they start to bag up a few months after being bred? Our first freshener Boers bag a month before kidding happens this doe has more dairy characteristics in her than boer (mom is Nubian dad is boer) she has a slight hallow where her ligaments are but there’s still an inch gap when feeling them. We’re going out of town end of May and I’m hoping she doesn’t kid then.
Ha..ha...ha...interesting explaination about goat farming.I am from Indo-China and what the Lady is telling is full of truth and 99% accurate. a) The Persian Old Saying " if you have nothing to do, get a pair of goat to start with....." really make you stress, fun, love, sympathetic,angry.. but you will never forget its meat & milk...... especially free-foraging/ browsing goats. The males list of grass & plant diet is quite long.Cross- breed is advicable to suit local climate & native vegetation and customer preference. Fullblood goat require more attention and working hours but the market is good in term of price...not slaughterg.
I’m looking into breeding goats of my own. But not sure how it works and what the laws are when buying goats to breed from other breeders? Do bleeders like yourself mind if people buy your kids to breed their own?
There are no rules. I don't mind if someone buys my goats to breed. I will advise against it if I feel it's not appropriate, but once you pay for the goat it is yours to do what you want to with.
Such a comprehensive video! Thank you very much. Just found your channel and I’m looking forward watching more. Thank you for all the straight forward information. Just what I needed to know. 🤙🏼
We had goats, sheep, chickens and veal calves on our farm when I was a child. I loved all of the animals except for the billy goat. I had to laugh when you were talking about how bucks will pee on themselves so they stink. It's almost as bad as a skunk. I used to tell my parents the billy goat needs a bath, he smells bad. 😆🐐🦨😝
We should have some available in April/May next year. They would need to be picked up in southeastern NC, we do not deliver. You can email me at that time and let me know what you are looking for (info@red-tailedfarm.com).
You certainly can keep them together, as long as your buck is not aggressive with the rest of the herd. I've had friends with males that will kill any kids they have access to. It does make controlling breeding and predicting due dates of your pregnancies more difficult as well.

They are so beautiful! I'm allergic to them so I have to live vicariously through you and your goats.
Sorry to hear that, but I'm glad I can provide some videos for you!

I'm from Indonesia, nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you!
Now I have to go through your videos and see if Money did his job! I want to see his babies! He is a beautiful goat!
Money did a great job!
I'm holding back my buck till Oct. I don't want to stress over any of my does kidding during a severe cold snap.
Sounds like a good idea!
This helped me a lot! Thank you! It's not the same as sheep 😅 even if they are similar in some areas.

My Nubians do tend to bag up earlier than my Boers do, up to 2 months prior to kidding. Best of luck with her!

Excellent video! What percentage of breeds do you have here? Half Boer half Nubian? Or?
Yes, mostly Boer and Nubian, with some Kiko and Oberhasli in there as well. No idea about percentages.

How to bring seasonal goats to heat on the day we want
You could use a CIDR device to induce estrous when you want.

What is a typical stud fee for the owner to bring the buck to you for a couple weeks?
I pay $50-100, but the cost would vary based on quality of the buck.

So, it's not a good idea to keep your male goats with the females all year long?
