Maybe he meant the beginning of the album - making of and concept. He wanted to do another compilation... That guy has some self confidence issues, for real. Didn’t bring Detox out cause he thought it was not good enough for himself (in his imaginary world).
@RUclips Smells Jimmy should have released Detox on behalf of Dre. Or tell Dre that he has 1 week to finalize it and release it at THAT time - NOT later, cause he will change his mind. That is why being best friends with your record company is a stupid idea: those guys will tolerate your "I will finish it later, when I FEEL like...". Pressure is GOOD for an artist, believe me. DEADLINES more so!
2001 shaped my entire childhood and life as an adult. I was a kid growing up in SoCal you couldn’t go anywhere and not hear Dr. Dre. One of the best bodies of work, we use the word legend too much but Dr. Dre is a LEGEND.

This man was legendary since NWA was a group of friends who wanted to make the truth about Compton to be public knowledge, and held two fingers in the air as they did it. They definitely put Compton on tha' map.
Iovine was the great mind behind those blowing up songs at the times. The guy made Dre do the most popular song of his career. They did the same with Real Slim Shady song of Em too. The first single was gonna be Who Knew for MMLP but the studio wanted another single and they pushed Em to do one of his greatest hits. Back in the days, Interscope was the shit. I think they lost that touch a decade ago unfortunately.
They lost their touch because they are out of touch with the hiphop culture. How does a wealthy gay white guy like Iovine know what the culure needs... He doesnt give a fuck about the culture. He never pushed the culture, he pushed his business!
I like that..give yourself time...'1 month, 2 months a year for something that will last forever'. Spoken by a true pioneer. Jimmy Iovine. what you in it for the art or the money....take time for the art to grow into what it should be. No microwave cooking. He's a legend no doubt.
I was 15 when this great album was released, I remember showing the album to my friends, they all loved the fact when u removed the CD from the case there was a pic of dre with a big bag of weed lol, great album, every track a banger
That last statement resonates. Music these days is about fast trends and getting content out. A lot of artists can drop singles but don't know how to make albums that flow. It's like we are in the age meme music.
My 10 year old son started listening to my Spotify playlists a few months ago, and this album is his favorite. Maybe he’s a bit too young, I know, but listening to the great 90’s hip hop artists like Dre, Snoop, Eminem and Biggie really makes us connect even more as a father and son.” I never knew there’s old music that’s actually cool” is how my son describes it 😂
I just wonder, how many of those tracks on that album are just 'purchased?'. The biggest hit was 'still dre', written bij Jay-z, orignal beat was written bij Scott Storch. They don't mention Storch in this interview.
@@lessforloans dre doesn't buy beats, if you know anything about 2001, that was mostly mailman and his samples which were replayed by studio musicians. Most of Dre's work has been replayed samples with original drum tracks by him or others. A producer and beat makers are not always the same person. Lil Jon is a good producer, but he will tell you, he doesn't make any beats. A producer takes all the elements and turns it into something great. That doesn't mean he played all the instruments or made the beat. Damn near every producer has a team that they work with, none of them are making tons of songs or beats on their own.
Dre 2001 is without doubt the most universally liked album by anyone I know. I have alot of different circle of friends who all like vastly different types of music between circles but Dre 2001 can be played in anyone of them circles and every person listening will know every track word for word and wont skip a single one. It will live on for generations like The Beetles Sgt Peppers, Bob Marlys Legend or Fleetwood Mac's Rumors its simply that good.

I was in the 5th grade and this album made my entire year. My view of the world was magical at that time and those memories always brings a smile to my face
Dre got memory loss. It’s not sequencing, he’s not on 5 songs, he’s on pretty much Every single song
Must be from all that chronic
yeah when I heard that I was like "wtf, that can't be right"
so i checked it out, and it wasn't
Hes on more songs than he’s not
Maybe he meant the beginning of the album - making of and concept.
You have to appear on the songs Dre!! We wanna hear you brother, your delivery it's impeccable!!! With your delivery back in early 90s you got me hooked!! So don't try to change your delivery!! Still Dre, the whole Chronic 2001, the original Chronic, that's the diamond standard of how your delivery is supposed to be!!!!! Keep it clean like that!!!
4real....keep their heads ringin was dope as fuck. Not to mention the entire chronic album. Dre was a beast.
yoo bro he did he was just talking shit he is rapping all over 2001 🤣🤣 how tf could he not know that? and why did he say that? he is rapping on almost every song check it out.. but i guess it just "might appears like it" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 maybe its not dre its a robot so it sounds like he is rapping but he isnt
@@stephenstuckey Another good one is the Em track he jumped on "Old Time's Sake". They both go in on that one, but it's one of Dre's best verses. Criminally underrated.
@@diddliduddli2835 He said it appears like he's in a lot of it because of the way he cut and edited the songs. He didn't really drop that many verses on 2001.
@@Zeroshiki well, i gotta dissappoint you but dre doesnt seem to know HIS OWN ALBUMS very well.. listen to it, skip through some songs and you will see that he is on almost EVERY SONG except the skits and 3 or 4 songs.. you cant make it look like he is on every song, either he is or he is not 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I bought this album when It came out and I've still got the disc in 2022 I've just turned 32 time flies boy 😟
2001 is my fav Rap album. Still Dre, What's the difference, Forgot About Dre, The next episode..... all songs are 🔥🔥
This album for me even to this day is the best ever made!!! Every record from start to finish just flows so well, and there are some absolute bangers in there!!!
The man,the legend Dr ‘I only ever wear black’ Dre
INAD VIDEO
@M N that was all the phase then 🤣
Awesome legend and I believe Dre and em found each other when they needed each other the most ✌🏻
This man was legendary since NWA was a group of friends who wanted to make the truth about Compton to be public knowledge, and held two fingers in the air as they did it.
They definitely put Compton on tha' map.
I'm still banging this album till this day. Great interview 👍👍
I don’t think they lost it but the challenge of filling in those type of shoes is close to impossible.
Well said.
They lost their touch because they are out of touch with the hiphop culture. How does a wealthy gay white guy like Iovine know what the culure needs... He doesnt give a fuck about the culture. He never pushed the culture, he pushed his business!
@@sothenisay9673 there was a time when hip hop in order to expand had to coincide with buisness
21+ Years later, when Dre's songs come on I still get goose bumps.
I like that..give yourself time...'1 month, 2 months a year for something that will last forever'. Spoken by a true pioneer. Jimmy Iovine. what you in it for the art or the money....take time for the art to grow into what it should be. No microwave cooking. He's a legend no doubt.
You saved my life. DAMN when you talk it sounds like a rap to me. Thank You!
RIP Nate Dogg! 🙏🙏🙏
Regulators mount up
I miss him so much. Imagine the bangers he'd put out these days
the undisputed hook GOAT
Play it every morning on my way to work , absolute classic.
Watching this having heard the news that Dr Dre is in ITU with a brain aneurism. Sending love and prayers from the UK for a full recovery 💖🙏💖
NFL Halftime show brough me back here again respect the OGs
I was 15 when this great album was released, I remember showing the album to my friends, they all loved the fact when u removed the CD from the case there was a pic of dre with a big bag of weed lol, great album, every track a banger
That last statement resonates. Music these days is about fast trends and getting content out. A lot of artists can drop singles but don't know how to make albums that flow. It's like we are in the age meme music.
Does he still own the album or did his wife also want it in the divorce.
🤣🤣🤣
He owns 2001 and The Chronic as well as the 2015 album Compton
@@lazyoverweightgoose Yeah I would hope so. I was just playing. Cause she wanted to own his name Dr Dre.
underrated comment
STILL 😂
My 10 year old son started listening to my Spotify playlists a few months ago, and this album is his favorite.
The actual beat was a mixture of Dre, Scott and Mail Man.
@@maddetox you are right, but without those chords, you have nothing.
@@samdeb6506 I agree
It’s contractual stuff. Dre buys it it’s “his”. He does a lot of ghost shit. A LOT a lot. That’s why he’s not in my top 5
Nice job using these clips to make a little mini doc about chronic 2001, pretty cool.
Love all y’all Dre Snoop EMINEM Sweet Mary J. Big impact on my life 2001 came out right before I graduated. Everyone bumped it
Will always be one of the greatest hip hop album of all time
That music will never be old..
Never ever be old.
This music is super cold and ever ever green
Prayers for dre
Great interview, thanks Dre. 6:31 thats true for videogames as well, as for movies.
Shame not more albums were made considering how good he is at producing! 😳
