In her books she tend to think like most Asians that being successful you need to stick to strict formulas. These include not only getting good grades in school but children should only play Classical music on a piano or violin which Amy considered to be the 2 most difficult instruments. There are exceptions like Wynton Marsalis who plays trumpet and mostly Jazz although he occasionally plays a Classical concerto. What about kids who go to baseball or football practice? Do these require just as much discipline or are they just for fun and entertainment? Being an immigrant and insecurity is part of the formula to success but few would go as far as comparing racial groups.
Common error - distilling post hoc characteristics of successful people, and then making the logical leap that if you project these characteristics, you too will be successful. This is a common but flawed methodology. The most common trait of "successful entrepreneurs" is "unreasonable optimism". Problem is, "unreasonable optimism" is also a common trait in UNSUCCESSFUL entrepreneurs. Did they look at groups or individuals that have those traits and yet were NOT successful? Doubt it. You say that people who are successful share these traits. What % of people with those traits are successful and what % are not?
@Humanophage She talks like that because she is passionate about her work and research (plus, to me she didn't seem all that exaggeratedly excited, maybe is all in your head)..
