Louisa must realize that Doc Martin is first a Doctor who loves his job. So she has to learn not to get upset when he goes off to a patient even though it happens when they try to spend time together. He is so rude its unbelievable. Lol. And yet Louisa loves him so. He is on the asperger's spectrum I believe.
Louisa always thinks why Martin behaves "like that". Martin has not got attention and love when he was a kid, hiding his emotions. Next time when YOU see or meet a person who "behaves like that" - think before you say or ask something, the reasons for his/hers actions can lead deep into past and childhood.

@Tom Angle I'm going to have to disagree with you on the bedside manner. We recently had a doctor at the local surgery (NHS, therefore U.K. based) who was highly professional, well skilled, but had absolutely no bedside manner. The result was a complete breakdown of trust between him and the patients, including myself. There was no question of incompetence or malpractice, but enough of the patients transferred to another surgery to result in the closure of the original doctors. A good doctor, with bad bedside manner, often results in patients who end up feeling worse, not better.
@@diogenesesenna9323 I guess I was raised a little different. I try to accept people and their different personalities. When I go to the doctor I do not need a friend or a therapist, I need to feel better. I of course was raised to stand up for myself if I think I am being insulted. So I must be different than most.
Just the fact that grumpy ol’ “I don’t care about people” doc Martin falls head over heel in love with the sweetest, most sociable ray of sunshine I find HIGHLY interesting. 😏
He withdrew from the program and jumping through all the hoops they wanted him to jump through, so in effect, he resigned. He saved a patient's life in the end during surgery, when the surgeon's eye problems caused him to almost botch the operation. That surgeon seemed to be telling Martin that if Martin kept quiet about his eyesight, he would make sure Martin passed with flying colors and would be able to keep practicing. Knowing Martin, he probably refused to do that and resigned instead. Just my speculation. But that would leave the door wide open for him to return to medical practice in series 10.
@@PerthTowne I agree, it also occurred to me that his conscience / ethics wouldn't allow him to put other potential patients of that surgeon in harm's way... so, in effect, he had no choice, would not accept the terms of the surgeon and had no recourse but to resign. I think, in season 10, the surgeon will be found out, Doc Martin will be vindicated and he will return to practice.
I love the series, and the characters' development as the time goes. But I must say, I find Louisa horribly judgemental in a very hypocritical way - it became clear with the therapist, and in how she finds it so easy that Martin gives her everything she wants just to stay with her (baby's name, her job, her studies, living apart...). True, he's not an easy character, but I mean!
I agree. She is getting really a pain to watch. Everything is his fault. She doesnt realise she is self-centered. Always playing the blame game. She acts as if everything is about her.
He was right though when he said she couldn't manage having a baby and teaching, because as soon as she had the kid she handed it to everyone else. Doc Martin had to bring him to daycare and pick him( then a baby sitter, then the aunt and in the end the woman who ran the nursery was doing it), the aunt and everyone she could think of. Not only when she was teaching but when she decided she wanted to become a counsellor she hardly saw him. She was off taking classes. After a long day, Doc Martin was making the meals and managing the kid. Then she gets pregnant again? Now they will be two to hand off to everyone else.
Two idiots too stubborn to realise they love each other. One acts upon rules of science and practicality and the other one uses too much common sense and gets very emotional for people who could care less of her. I like it how even though bad luck seems to encounter their love, they still somehow manage to be attracted to each other like polar opposites. They subconsiously learn from each other. Louisa begins to be more assertive and self of herself while Martin melts his stern and posh personality and is more receptive to his feelings. That is how you know the writers did a good job. The point of the story is too see your characters evolving and learning from their experiences. This December the series will be over and I am glad to see that people out there still watch it.
