  • The subject of this afternoon's conversation was retirement. Particularly, my retirement and the retirement of another Primary Myelofibrosis patient I've become friendly with.
The question was: How long did it take for me to come to terms with what I felt was my need to retire?
Realistically, it didn't take long at all. The choices seemed perfectly clear. Either continue working with all the anxiety and stress involved in running a small business or focus on family, friends, treatment and recovery. But, one of the reasons my decision was so easy was my age. Retirement isn't much of a stretch when you've been actively engaged in your profession for more than fifty years!
The question has to be: Would I have made the same decision at fifty-one that I made at seventy-one?
If you're waiting for the answer get comfortable as I'm not really sure I have one quite yet.

Mitch, at age 47 I decided that I would like to retire at age 55. I had no problem making that decision and did retire at 55. I have never regretted that decision. I keep busy by donating my time to my community. Stay well.
