For me it was worth ever cent. Was looking at the Audi Q7 with the 55 package and the BMW X5 4.0i with the sports package and options to be similar to the Acura. I will be picking up my Type S this Monday in the Performance Red Pearl. Looking forward to coming back to the brand after owning two Integra GS-R and 2004 TSX 6-speed. Mine is the Ultra package in Canada which is similar to the Performance in the US. I always enjoy your reviews. 👍🏻🙏🏻

I think the type S is definitely a better choice because it's made as an entry-level 'high performance' SUV. It's supposed to rival the sQ7 and X5M50i. But these two are more expensive so it makes sense that you choose the type S.
I would also make the same choice for the price. (if I got money I would go X6M50i or even X6M comp)
@@jamisonz3365 those cars are far out of its league. It's rivals are the x3m40i and the SQ5. Either one of those two would be the better overall option but if u want to be budget friendly then choose the mdx

@@edwardwalterbroadnaxjr3576 I looked at the Audi Q7 with the Sline package, but as i have bought mine and plan to keep for atleast 7 yrs (bought extended warranty - air suspension can get expensive if it goes), i figure the maintenance cost is lower in the long run. Plus for me, I wanted something different instead of a German brand which you see tonnes on the road. It is always a personal choose. I am happy with mine choose.
That color isn’t for everyone, but personally I love it. If I was looking for a performance SUV, I’d heavily consider this one.

This true I have the TLX type s in this color some like it & some don't, but I didn't get it for them I got it because I like it, there's also certain color cars I wouldn't buy, but to me this color is truly unique

over 10 years since i last had a vehicle.. A 95 integra in my teens... Then a Chevy trailblazer.. And last a Nissan Pathfinder in 2010. Took me and my son for a test drive in the MDX type S and out of ALL the vehicles I've driven.. had an absolute BLAST! me and my son face lit up in excitement.. the way it handles is crazy for a SUV! and it picks up QUICK. the outside dose sound weak.. was hoping for it to sound at least similar to the TLX type S.. but i get it.. it's still a family SUV so it seems they wanted to retain some of that and not make it sound too crazy. "i did at least hear a very faint pop when you took off lol" it dose sounds real good on the inside however.
Can't wait to see your reaction when you go on throttle with it!

Wish it had a twin turbo with more horsepower and touch screen infotainment like Lexus which has a pad and touchscreen
If it was turbo people would complain that you want a natural aspirated engine.

I just bought my MDX, Type S Advance in Liquid Carbon Metallic and I love it! I would have to spend an extra 20k to 30k if I wanted a German equivalent with all the options.
Real nice suv wish it was 400 hp, After market Goodies should get her their🤔. Overall loving it💯

With all options it’s now $75k, then I’m wondering.. for that price should one just put few grand more and get Porsche macan S?

Great review as usual, Joe and Lori.
My quick take:
a) Looks terrific, I like the exterior black trim around the wheels. However, I’m not crazy about the amount of gloss black on the dashboard. I would prefer soft touch materials or extended wood trim.
b) For 355 HP, the 0-60 of 5.6 is on the high side as compared to the V6 competition; X5 4.0i and Q7 both approx 5.0 flat...so, that’s kind of disappointing.
c) The base Type-S is really well equipped, so I probably wouldn’t spend another $5k for the Advance pack ( mostly massage front seats, 25 speaker audio).
Can’t wait for the “On throttle”!
The advance also adds heads up display and the 360 view. I currently don’t have that in my current car but my husband does. He encouraged me to get the pkg with those options I mentioned. I guess I have to wait till April to experience it all to know if it’s worth it. I can’t wait for April to get my new Acura!
As An Acura Manufacturer Fan Of 2000's & Newer Ones. I Would How Acura Done The Paint Job On This Vehicle As Well. But I Rather Get This Video Over It's Competition, But Nice Review Joe.

I have the 2021 rdx pmc edition #278 and I have to say I zonk gloss black all around because scratches right away and it's easy to see.
I too zonk the interior trim black gloss finish. It's too much and wish they'd gone in a different direction like a smoke black chrome even. There are a lot of bells and whistles for sure. Almost too much really, but once you get the hang of it then it could get easier. Still prefer an actual shifter as opposed to buttons or dials.

Hi Joe and Lori Awesome Review. Couple things the wheel arch if it needed to be black then make it pop with that diamond flake paint that is baked in like the primary paint. Agreed on the spoiler and wiper comment. That does need extension and wiper hideaway. Plasti-dip the badges I guess. Now the Exhaust, I was excited and then disappointed at the sound. If the "Idea" is Type S then it sound like a Type S! Our 2008 Acura MDX sounds better with stock Exhaust. You would think at 72K just throw in the Exhaust of the NSX then that would be Very Satisfying! Needs to be touchscreen as well C'mon Acura. You got us the Pano give us the touchscreen.
Thé Split Spoke design mimics the Acura « caliper » logo.
Mazda needs to step there game up. All the other competitors are blowing them out the water

@@RaitisRides the Mazda 6 needs to be standard AWD especially the Turbo edition. Also, for the top trim Mazda 6 should be 290HP so it could compete with the Sonata N Line. Lastly, the icing on the cake they should get rid of the prop rod and replace em’ with hydraulic hood struts just to give it a luxury look.

Whew…70k plus destination??? Ya gotta work a great deal on this one to come out better. Love the HP boost over the regular MDX. Might have to look at the Fisker ocean also as an option.
Air suspension, 21'in wheels, brembos brakes, massaging seats, sport tuned 10 speed transmission, 25 speakee sound system! Its definitely much cheaper than any similarly equipped German counterpart.
Let me wake you up a little. My local dealer has one, same color same trim. They are asking 89K plus tax for it.

Truthfully, I can get past the infotainment screen not being a touchscreen. However, I HATE the split screen. It's a ZONK Joe! There's no need to see the station you're on when 95% of the time, you're changing your stations through the steering wheel controls. I would love to see a full-screen Navi from Acura.

If they brought the infotainment forward and made it a touch screen this would be a immediate win but the touch pad infotainments are beyond annoying and out of style. Lexus learned their lesson.

0-60 in the upper fives is pretty slow for 2022.
I don't fully understand Acura. They went through all the hazzle of developing an all-new powertrain and introducing the Type S brand for the first time in the MDX, all to launch an SUV that's still slower than a base BMW X5 or a base Lincoln Aviator.
Seems to me more like a poser vehicle if I am being honest, a vehicle that screams performance but in reality is no better than an Explorer ST.
Acura should've made this powertrain standard in the A-spec trim, and given us a Type S with over 400hp for mid-4 sec 0-60 performance.

Test the car yourself G. It does 5.4 easy with the crap tires it comes with. That's the same as the Lincoln, and no one is going to be buying the Lincoln unless they want to look like Grandpa.
At this price point you can't find a Japanese performance SUV with the same options that looks good. Do you think BMW X5 will be as reliable as MDX type S?
@@handle690 I get it, financially it may be smarter to get an Acura.
However, my main problem with this car is the way it’s branded: a performance SUV. When in reality some of its competitors provide faster base options.
5.4 secs 0-60 is what the base MDX should’ve been achieving in the first place.
It’s like if BMW were to paste an M badge on the base 330 hp x5 as opposed to it’s 567 hp version. It’d cheapen the M brand. Acura is cheapening the Type S brand by calling this an MDX Type S I what I am saying.
@@handle690 Same with TLX Type S, perhaps an bigger poser vehicle. Car testers have been struggling to achieve a 0-60 on that thing under 5 secs, with most achieving low 5s. When an Accord 2.0T can achieve 0-60 in 5.5-5.7 secs, it doesn’t make sense to pay an additional ~$25k for what, 0.3-0.4 secs faster?
Acura should’ve pushed the envelope further.

I love Acura. I have 3rd gen TL type S, WITH a stick, which is easily the last greatest Acura car ever built. Today's Acuras are nothing special. However, the latest are a small step in the right direction. Then again, I was kinda spoiled by mine, lol.
We put our deposit down for the Carbon Gray with red interior and advance package. Honda reliability, air suspension, passenger and driver massaging seats, 25 speaker system, turbo charged 6 cylinder and the customization were the deciding factors. Looked at GV80, XC90 and Q7. Plus the resale on this brand is amazing. Should be here in a week!

Super disappointed - no third row AC or heating. So what are we supposed to do when we are riding our kids and two of their friends around from summer sporting events when the interior is 120-degrees-plus?! I can buy two Highlanders with third row AC for this much $$.

The stitched dash looks good and I’m glad Acura brought it back on the MDX and TLX. However they should have carried it over to the door, at least on advance trims, especially when you’re spending around $70k.

This MDX is conservatively elegant! The stylish, tasteful front end doesn’t scream at you like the obnoxious grills that Lexus vehicles have. I’m okay with the black trim around the wheel wells but do wish the rear spoiler was more substantial with the wiper tucked underneath. Thank you for the review!
I would probably choose the Genesis GV80. Although I like several things about the Acura. Memory passenger seat are really clever and very useful. What I really don't like are the black pillars and ceiling. Interior becomes way too dark, even with the beautiful white seats.

I prefer command center over touch screen. Touch screen gets dirty fast with the oil on your fingertip. Also, command center is less distractive to operate while driving. Great vid as always brother!

Joe if you do come to Mill Valley CA if very friendly and expensive to live there! Also, why pick the UGLY Acura MDX Type 2? Have you have seen in sliver that can change in color that can make you blind? It's about time they build a turbo! That build the tiny to no fog lights on few of the Acura models. It will be so cool they build a rag top conv model!

This vehicle is fantastic.
The option to have captain's chairs or traditional bench seating is a big plus.The middle piece is removal,ir can be used for cup holders or elbow rest.
Sound system,handling,& timing capacity are off the charts

No touchscreen, excessive gloss black....... no deal....I'll wait for now. Also, when the mid-row center console is removed, there should be attachable armrests, otherwise they are not really captain's chairs.

Honda/Acura keeps trying this color (formerly Aztec Gold/now Tigers Eye Pearl) every 5 years or so. I sold those for fat commissions because nobody wanted them.

Tiger eye is the color I would choose if I was picking up any type s model. It’s probably one my favorite yellow/gold colors I’ve seen on any car. Very attractive and will turn heads. I can’t wait to see the on throttle action especially when it comes to the handling Acura is known for and all the other goodies

If you live in NY or Long Island Acura was always a wanna be vanilla brand for so long Like Infiniti was a program car the only reason you bought the car is if you didn’t want to step up to Mercedes or bmw audi monthly payments. The new product is making it more stand out

I actually like the gloss black wheel arches. It matches up well with mirrors and window trim. Yeah, the badges should be all black though.
The gloss black fender looks good because it’s a mild size. It’s not a few inches thick
Would have looked nicer if they made that whole gloss black area on the center stack wood, especially at $72k.

Joe, this new MDX is light years better than its predecessor but that doesn't say much. I have one word to describe it. Actually two: Underwhelming and overpriced. This thing cost as much as the vaunted BMW X5!! No way, Jose! Hard pass.
I think everyone agrees the X5 looks and drives better, it’s the out of warranty costs of maintaining an X5 that will drive people to consider the MDX Type S
Nice All Around SUV…including the price for a fully loaded $72K is a bargain !! I built a BMW X5 4.0 with M package and the MSRP was $79K

J. RAITI > ROCK & ROLL BABY, solid gold. Type S stands for Spunky lol. the new Bat Mobile has 'functional air vents' & a jet engine = LOVE. I think this Acura has a nice face. looks sleek, yet mean at the same time. my Mini Cooper S has triple suspension no wait I was wrong, it has no suspension. ya hit a pot hole & crack your axle lol. I feel color matched fender treatment would be nicer & just give the spec option of protective film wrap. big improvement on exterior design lines, looks like a MDX but 'FRESH' the rear wiper is like a wart on the butt of a hot babe. solid engine w/ boost.
Touch screen is not a huge zonk for me. Most brands disable touch screen when the vehicle is in motion anyway.
There is actually third row ac, you can't see them but they're under seats and by windows.
