@TEMPLE7D You can use them - you would have to install them specially. Plus, since the cars tilt, the angle might change enough on corners for the couplers to come undone. The current coupler stick-things don't look great, but they keep the cars close together, and I've never had a problem so far.
@firelitebg12L Thanks! I might well be taking the trains up the NE Corridor quite a bit over the next few years - I'm moving to the East Coast of the US this summer. Glad you enjoyed the video - before I bought the Acela, I was keen to find an actual review that wasn't shot in low lighting, at 240p on someone's bedroom floor... so I did this one!
From what I understand, the pantograph that is second (per direction of travel) would be raised. There are photos with the first one raised, but trailing pantograph should be engaged. That a safety precaution, the reason being the first one getting caught on the wire and ripping both off. It the second one breaks, there is nothing behind it to get damaged.
@tpe18509 It is lovely. I think for a high speed train, i wouldn't normally expect it to have such a robust and strong engine, so much good detail, and a lighting system!
Very nice, I've been meaning to get one of these in HO scale to use as a desk model! It really is a nicely done model. I'm from New Jersey, btw, and have ridden the Acela quite a few times. My brother lives over on your side of the pond in Yorkshire, and I've ridden the Pendolino while visiting over there! I have to say, the Pendolino wins on ride quality, but the Acela is roomier and the seats are nicer! :)
@cwlegoboy Thanks! I actually got most of my trains from either shows or shops to begin with, but I have to say, during the last 5 years, I've been predominantly buying off eBay and internet shops. I've found the prices more competitive for the trains, but for track and controllers etc, I always give good business to my local shop!
I have this set, which I bought separately, so it was more expensive. If you run it on DCC the lights will show through the roof! How does the size of the HO Acela compare with the OO Pendulino compare? OO locos and carriages always look too big on my HO set.
Yes, while the standard set comes with only one business class, one first class, and one cafeacela car, you can buy additional cars of each type from Bachmann so as to complete a "real" Acela trainset.
The British manufacturers sell a number of different footbridges, platforms, and stations. Notice being in the US he uses a American depot and signal tower, which can come prebuilt or as a kit. I have one from Bachmann and Atlas that are exactly the same, must be using the same Chinese source.
@Amtraklover103 WOW! Thats quite a trip! : ) I'd love to ride on the Acela at some point, unfortunately, its a pricey one... I'll be taking the Lake Shore Limited a lot next year though between Penn Station and Syracuse, since I'm moving to the USA next year, and I have relatives and friends in DC and NYC. Let me know how the journey goes - enjoy!
@bnrails There is always a gap to accommodate smaller "train-set" raidii, but I imagine you could modify it to have better couplers- Kadees would be fairly simple to fit. Even between the cars, it can be quite tricky to connect them without connecting them off the track. Works well, looks a bit crap! Kadees probably the answer. Thanks!
@TomyTrackmastertrain wow, thats a lot! I got mine on eBay for $175. It was an old set, but worth it at that price with the track and controller. The new ones have better lights installed, I think - LEDs rather than incandescent bulbs (which don't show up much through the tinted windows!)
@gtacrusher123 I've actually not found that a problem so far. Plus, the power car is so heavy and fast, I seem to be able to get decent HO scale 150mph out of it!
@itgamer100 Yeah, its great. Its built by Alstom/Bombardier, the same people who did all the TGVs in France, the Pendolinos and the Eurostar. Pretty good track record I'd say!
Is it possible to mod it for Marklin 3 rail system? Because I want to purchase the Acela set but I need to know if there is some space under the boogies of the power cars to place a 3rd rail contact. :)
@mj1234321 Ah, great! My brother and I are actually dual-citizens; we are British and American. We'd love to live over in the US one day, and the Acela is a must on our list! I like the Pendolinos too, and, for the moment, the ticket prices are quite reasonable.
@streamlinedtrains true most of the old trains used to go like rockets now they havent got enought power to haul a massive train i am gladd intercity82 told me about you
I believe the train set comes with five cars: loco, first, business, cafe, and dummy. jThe real trains Amtrak runs have eight cars, probably another first and two more business.
the store I usually get US models does have the motor cars in stock, and is able to profide the cars as well, but only the motor cars are about 159.90 € (US$229,90). so I can find it, just can't afford it...-_-
the Acela Express runs only along the route of the Northeastern Megalopolis, between Boston ans Washington DC, via New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore... THUMBS UP IF YOU THINK THERE ISN'T A PLACE LIKE THE UNITED STATES...!
Why would you want to use knuckle couplers on this set...The prototype don't use them...this is a close coupled train and it is not broken up for any reason except when a "power car" or other car needs repair and even then most of the time the whole "train" is taken out of service so repairs can be made...
GeminiJeter1027 HO/OO gauge track. Doesn't matter what brand does it? I am not sure whether its code 100 or not in rail height, but that doesn't matter either.
OF COURSE THE ACELA IS ALL BUSINESS AND FIRST IT'S THE FREAKING ACELA! THE TRAINS CONSIST OF FOUR BUSINESS ONE END BUSINESS (whatever that means) AND ONE FIRST CLASS! THE ONLY TRAINS HERE IN AMERICA WITH COACH ARE THE ONES THAT GO ACROSS THE COUNTRY OR TRAINS LIKE THE REGIONAL! BESIDES EUROSTAR TICKETS AREN'T THAT MUCH CHEAPER!
Great and interesting review. I might get that model myself. I also do railway vids. If you could, I would really appreciate it if you checked out my channel and subscribe if you like. Thanks, Ant.

Great collection of trains and a great review of the actuall Acela Express Well done

great video again from you i think that the acela is such a impresive train

Nice review videos! I actually got my Acela train set at a store called Hobbytown.
Once again amazing review!!

i Like Your Toy Train Videos And Thank You For Making The Toy Train Videos.
great lighting in the carridges but it might slow down the train because of the amount of voltage

The HO set is still on sale and manufactured, available for $500. The O scale version is not available anymore.
@TomyTrackmastertrain wow, thats a lot! I got mine on eBay for $175. It was an old set, but worth it at that price with the track and controller. The new ones have better lights installed, I think - LEDs rather than incandescent bulbs (which don't show up much through the tinted windows!)

where did u get most of ur trains and the acela is really awsome so u got it on ebay
I have to ask, would this be a good starter set for a new train modeler?
Is it possible to mod it for Marklin 3 rail system? Because I want to purchase the Acela set but I need to know if there is some space under the boogies of the power cars to place a 3rd rail contact. :)
whoops forgot about the cafe car in my rant...
It doesn't have tables per say but it has like a bar type thing with bar stools
Where did you get that from can you make a bridge so the acela can go on a bridge
@drewzdrew27 Thanks! So glad to finally have this one. Its been on my list for years!
in a hobby shop here in california i seen it in set with track and controller it was 440 dollars
@mj1234321 Ah, great! My brother and I are actually dual-citizens; we are British and American. We'd love to live over in the US one day, and the Acela is a must on our list! I like the Pendolinos too, and, for the moment, the ticket prices are quite reasonable.

yes they do u just gotta look
Exactly how long is the whole train? (just the two engines and three cars)
@kjrehberg Yeah, they are impressive, but I think they are prone to intermittent contact problems, especially in Digital
Most Awesome Vid!!!!!!!
Can the regular knuckle coupler work on the acela cars?
I believe the train set comes with five cars: loco, first, business, cafe, and dummy. jThe real trains Amtrak runs have eight cars, probably another first and two more business.
Where did you get the controller? (I got a diffrent one in my set)
the store I usually get US models does have the motor cars in stock, and is able to profide the cars as well, but only the motor cars are about 159.90 € (US$229,90).
so I can find it, just can't afford it...-_-
nice jobs!!! can i buy one in United Kingdom?
do they have this in n-scale?
Probably easier to convert your layout to 2-rail track.
the Acela Express runs only along the route of the Northeastern Megalopolis, between Boston ans Washington DC, via New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore... THUMBS UP IF YOU THINK THERE ISN'T A PLACE LIKE THE UNITED STATES...!
can you do the bell or horn with it ?
No Ar It is DCC fitted or ready, so a sound chip and speaker can be added if you choose.
do doors open?
Whats the layout size?
what gauge is it
what scale is this ho or g?
Why would you want to use knuckle couplers on this set...The prototype don't use them...this is a close coupled train and it is not broken up for any reason except when a "power car" or other car needs repair and even then most of the time the whole "train" is taken out of service so repairs can be made...
Acela Delivery-Early 2001
Do the doors open?
No.
@train4561 about £118 for the whole thing. Nice model though!
What type of track is that
GeminiJeter1027 HO/OO gauge track. Doesn't matter what brand does it? I am not sure whether its code 100 or not in rail height, but that doesn't matter either.
Ok thanks :)
Project Acela
Why Do You Buy The Train Set With Only 6 Cars. You Probably Want To Buy 8 Cars in A Set. 8 Cars in A Set Would Only Be 267.00 Dallers
who wants to visit me until my project is finished?
Easy fix - get a higher current power supply.
Do the passenger cars doors open?
No
Great and interesting review. I might get that model myself. I also do railway vids. If you could, I would really appreciate it if you checked out my channel and subscribe if you like. Thanks, Ant.
what size is your layout
