  • Ark Investment Management's Cathie Wood and billionaire art investor Jorge Perez clashed over non-fungible tokens and art. Wood called NFTs "the greatest thing to happen to artists", while Perez said he didn't understand the "new art" and won't buy NFTs. They speak with Erik Schatzker at Bloomberg's "The Future of Global Financial Centers" in Miami.

    NFTs are great but people call everything "Art" nowadays, here in Italy only true masters are called Artist.

You haven’t been to the art museum in Boston as the artwork was stolen from the museum years ago and there are empty spaces where the art is still missing. So not a reproduction and very famous art. And art is just not paintings. I enjoy seeing treasures from ancient civilizations. Objects in 3D.

    My guess is humans need something physical to attach a value to it over long periods of time. Think of real estate, metals, businesses/stocks. Those are real things. Digital (fiat) money, NFTs not so much. I think many overestimate the world of bits and bytes while underestimating the world of Adam and Eve, as I think Peter Thiel once stated.

    • @Zandeyninja
      @Zandeyninja 2 года назад

      Lorenz you are right in a way, physical things have value inherently because they are made out of real materials. But people can develop attachments to non physical things as well. That's why a free game like Fortnite is making billioins a year because people have an attachment to the digital world. Kids/teenagers/even adults play the game but they want to own the cool new gun or new character cloth. None of it's real but it has value.
      I do think NFTs are MASSIVELY overvalued just as domain names were during the dotcom bubble but they do have value just as the domain names ha maybe just not as much as they are valued at today.

    NFT's are owned by the app creator. You buy a picture on a screen you pay the tax buy and sell...everyone knows your business and the creator of the art gets a royalty on each sale that's the only real concern keeping the cash stream going on their work...apps can change cost of operation, delete accounts, make your art un- accessible....sole proprietary of the purchased art belongs to the app. You sign that to them to use the app....lol

    What I see here is the stark cultural difference between Latin countries and the western countries. The western countries are becoming more inpersonable, with a lower quality of life. In all the meantime Latin countries retain their traditionalism and become places of great understanding philosophy with great standards of living
    and high quality of life.

It takes nothing away from the experience, it rather improves and gives way to new innovations…and he extremely underrated tech with the physical experience he mentioned. You can do more than just standing and looking at digital art.

    owning a ferrari vs. taking a picture of it- not the same thing. owning a STATIC digital image. vs. screenshotting = same thing. Digital assets make sense as long as that asset is "alive/moving around" vs. being a still image. (Just like images on onlyfans, digital images of art should in theory only attract a niche group after the NFT mania comes to a crashing end)...

    I have a suggestion to Cathie Wood. How about gathering doodles from homeless kids, kids living in refugee camps around the world, kids living in areas that are destroyed by climate change, and all kids who are starving right now. Then put their doodles on NFTs and give all the profits to those kids and their families. Maybe this is a way to reduce poverty and inequality.
