I only build collect and repair 1/18th scale cars . I have watched you because I want to learn more on diecast prep , repair and paint. I built plastic kits for 50 yrs then then I switched to diecast. I have never used an air brush but have had good luck with rattle cans. Because of builders like you I have purchased an airbrush and will soon hopefully gather courage to use it. lol. That Hotwheels Merc originally came with a nice surf board that clicks in place in the back and sticks out the window. I buy a lot of wrecked and broken cars for repair or just parts box. I collect new and used cars that are supposedly mint but you'd be surprised how bad the paint and glass is on a lot of low and higher dollar cars from most of the companies. I've never seen them as bad as that Vette or the Merc. Super job . Looks great. Good call on leaving off the decals.

I do have nine other model cars that I call my superhero cars and they are Batman the Knight Rider car Batwoman Catwoman Superwoman Iron Man I like to build sort of a background scene for these 1:24 scale superhero cars because they come with the action figure.

I was thrilled to see you do a 1/18 scale diecast. I collect these 1/18 scale cars but only cars I’ve actually owned over the years. It’s difficult because many models never found there way to the diecast market. The 1/18 scale can be very easily customized to match a vehicle you owned or wanted! For example the 1962 Chevrolet diecast usually has the 409 engine, mine was a 327. So I found a 327 1/18 scale engine online and swapped it out. With 1/18 scale you can easily make the interiors the way they were on your own car. The dash is big enough for custom instrumentation as well. With patience ignition wires and battery wires can be added to the engine. I also had a 1965 GTO; mine had a vinyl top, my diecast car has a painted top. I’m trying to figure out a way to get a vinyl look on the top. I considered trying the Redline shop black vinyl look paint but the grain pattern is too small, it looks good on 1/64. Older 1/18 models have opening trunk (Boot) lids and trunk (Boot) interiors. 1/18 is also pretty easy to electrify, I’ve never done one but with the tiny LEDS and micro switches we have today it should be easy. I really appreciated watching you tear down the Corvette. I’ve opened up many cars in this scale but never figured out how to remove the melt-weld-rivet parts. I’ve also tried using styrene pieces to make drive-shafts and exhaust pipes. Most 1/18 scale diecast, especially newer ones have less detail on the undercarriage. Your method of touching up the chrome was great; I wonder if that would work on new styrene pieces? If you try and buy any 1/18 online shoot for older models from the 90’s. If the trunk (Boot) opens it’ll have much more detail. In my opinion the newer Burago and Maisto have a little less detail. There are other brands with more detail but they can get pricey. The Burago and Maisto usually sold in “Club” stores around the holidays for $19.95 There are also many 1/18 scale odds-n-ends online for making dioramas or adding accessories. I’d bet with a 3D printer you could add an 8 track tape deck to the dash. Sorry this is so long, but I’ve been watching RUclips for some time waiting to see a guy with YOUR expertise do a 1/18 scale car. This is GREAT keep doing these; I’d say you’ll get many more subscribers. Best of luck. P.S. I don’t see the Scotch-Brite rotary tool polishing brushes on the Amazon links.

1:18 is all I fool around with. I'd like to see you do more of them but the small Hot Wheels mods are cool!

Wow. What a gorgeous car. That interior was trash and ended up so nice. The paint is spectacular! Great job!!!

Great great, paintjob..in memory of my late friend John Trippi, who died in a car crash but owned a 1973 "Candy Apple" Red Convertable Corvette, done by Brooklyn's Zaino Brothers..(Ironic car crash was in a rental in Florida 1988)

That is a great paint job man man! I think a dark wash on the pipes and grill would really make it look real.

I was thinking the same thing but I didn't want to be the one to say it lol. At least on the grille. I think he lost the detail on the pipes when he Quicksilvered them... The first pipe because by the time he got to that point that it looked good the detail was gone, and the second one had to be done like that to make it match. My thought is that the first pipe was too far gone to salvage the minute details, and the second one had to be done like that just because it wouldn't have looked right.
As far as dark washing though, he did say in the other video that he wouldn't be detailing any of the car and that the lucky subscriber could do that if they wanted it done.

Incredible paint job - good work! The side pipes came out great, too.
Model is a little odd for people that obsessed over Corvettes around the time of the "Silver Anniversary" when they were in HS (not naming names). Backup lights are right for a '69 ('68 had them under the bumperettes next to the license plate) but door handles are from a '68 (the pushbutton was dropped for '69 and what had been just the hand hold became the latch). The side-marker lights are also missing (not required in '68, required in '69). On the regular Hot Wheels you can't really see that stuff but on a 1/18th scale ...
Did I mention that the paint was incredible? And yes, looking forward to the '70 T/A even though I don't like T/As. :)
