i concur - his flow is beautiful to watch and it is clear that he is extremely proficient in what he does. i wonder how his movements will be in years to come as he evolves, especially when he is already at this stage now. lovely.

I have a friend Vitaly (he is my uncle's friend), his is a former policeman. He used to train kick-boxing and then systema. He left police after 3 drunk guys attacked him to kill. In fight he killed two guys and third was seriously injured. He then retired from police straight away and now lives in a small village.
The point I'm making, if you use systema full speed, you either get seriously injured or killed.
P.S. He showed some stuff and it was awesome.

Norcal is correct. In Kali, I was taught to 'control' the blade by marking the blade arm. In Systema you learn to control the oponent, and therefore the blade by proxy. i.e. his blade hand may be un checked behind you, but if his shoulders or hips are being rotated away from you he will not be able to bring the blade to bear.

Subtle dynamic control is the gem of such demonstrations. It is not obvious.
Make no mistake mixing artistically humored demo with a life threatening combat.
Reality is short, fast, brutal and a bit less forgiving for an expendable attacker.

Some people just do not understand Systema, that's oke. But I can asure you that when seeing Vladimir demonstrating on full force he is still this good, no, even better! Do not forget that this man has more then 10 years of real combat experience. Like 'norcalsystema' said: don't mix up reality with a safe demo. When Vladimir and his attackers would go FULL force, there would be a need for a couple of ambulances. Some moves may seem unreal, but this is just for "educational purpose".

Not in the same way, but we do learn to keep our mind clear and emotion free as we do the work.

Because this is no Hollywood style rehearsed stage fighting. Full speed committed attack requires adequate response while an attacker's safety is not a priority. The clip footage is taken during seminar demo & represents more educational than entertaining purpose.
Those who want to experience full speed attack response are always welcome to do so at their own expense of time & consequences.

Good points. I wonder why people didn't realize why instructors like Vasiliev are very cautious in applying techniques, of he course he must, if he's not cautious, no one will go to class. I'm not going to any class just to get a KO experience or injuries.

I've seen a few clips of Vladimir Vasiliev actually moving fast. It's not this slow paced stuff and it's no joke. This seems like reactive training working on reaction and flow not speed. You need to work both but when done right, this kind of training is VERY helpful. I know in my classes full speed and force are sometimes done, but it requires a forceful answer, which can get people hurt and it doesn't work the subtle points of the art like this does. Hope this makes sense.

    I like what I see,but unlike KONDDE's question
"why the guys do not atack their professor with full of force?",my question is that there are systems that are very good at tracking the opponet, this I don't see from any of the students.I look forward when I can come and learn how systema could deal with an opponet trained with this skill.Good film

The instructor looks like he has excellent sensitivity and very well-trained small-angle defences. Haven't met him or even seen any Systema for myself, but he looks like he could really kick rear end.
For those of you who have met him, how devastating are his soft strikes by the way? People fold up or fall down when he so much as touches them. Are they doing so because he is actually hurting them with what appear to be light touches, or do they do it in anticipation of a real hit?

Vlad is great, shame, no systema school in Zagreb, at least, i don't know of any..

Another question for those of you who practise this beautiful art: do you do meditative work? In particular, do you do anything similar to the Internal Chinese arts' zhanzhuang (standing meditation)?

"why the guys do not atack their professor with full of force?"
Because it really hurt to do that!
    No freaking joke!

@KONDDE Some years ago I saw a cocky MMA guy attack Ryabko with full force at a seminar in London. I think it was 3 ribs that the MMA guy had broken. Only one punch from Ryabko BTW.

these methods of fighting are performed in this manner for demonstration and learning purposes. The methods used in a real physical altercation which is similar but will be more direct and may cause great bodily harm. Looks can be deceiving.

I love this art, i understand the slow movement and the use of evasion, combined with balance points. But a lot of the attacks are nothing one would see, I mean the attackers are very artful, no attacker will have smooth fluid movement. this is just a personal gripe I have with slow moving attacks like what one might see in aikido. great art otherwise. thank you

the russians are very, very practical people, and the fact that their special forces, the fearsome specnaz uses this sistem speaks for itself, they are killers and would not be using it if it was unefective

I'll tell you why, or better still the reason, do as I did go and spar with him (he will not turn you down) then come back on here and tell us what happened, Vladimir is being very careful not to hurt these guys, he did on two occasions go into 2nd gear with me (after I got a bit to clever and ignored the fact that he was playing with me) He wrecked me 1 second! I was KO!
