    I was stunned when I saw this the other day as I used to visit that actual library to study and borrow books. It wasn't until I saw the front doors (which aren't shown in the show) that I suddenly realised I'd been there!! Loads of times too at the end of the 1980s when I was in education there. My favourite Tenth Doctor episode and I'd been to the library itself! I'm so thrilled ❤😊❤

    Wait I never realised!! They were in the biographies section, and at the end they leave Rivers book there. A book that is basically a biography of her and the doctors lives together.

      Oh man. I remember when Donna was brought on board and was like "ugh great a comedy companion" because I didn't like her Christmas(?) episode much but then she ended up having some of the saddest moments in all of Who. Catherine's a fantastic actress.

    Every day in the future where people are still reading from books, papers and magazines gives me hope that some of the old ways will never be lost to time and technology.
    Not to mention this story is with the same incarnation of the Doctor that said books are the best weapon in the universe, from Tooth and Claw.

Swansea Metropolitan University bought the building and with funding from the EU gave it a £9.69 million renovation, almost £5 million over the budget, in 2015. A glass, Louvre-like, wing was also added on its right hand side, which is now the main entrance where students can often be seen sitting on the steps. It is now the Swansea College of Art of UWTSD."

    The library you show at the end is actually the Reading Room at UWTSD Swansea. Still very much in use. No plans to pull it down or sell it.

      @@greengardener517 I used to go to that library between 1987 and 1990 when I was in education in Swansea. At the time of filming this episode the building was completely empty. Even the books were removed from the empty building and the set designers had to create all the books again instead of being able to use the original ones that were there because they were removed from the empty library

    I can remember volunteering in the Oxfam Book shop in Swansea at the time and they wanted as many second hand books as they could get for the filming.

    I did know that it was filmed in the old Swansea Library because I used to go there and I loved that round room with lots of wood and the domed glass ceiling. The "new library" is in a modern building that's part of the civic centre and so much bigger, but is now also going to move somewhere!

      My husband used to work nights when I started watching Doctor Who. I was home alone when i watched this the first time, late late at night. I was full of regrets 😂😂😂 but really it's one of the best episodes out there.

    There's honestly no replacement for a good physical hard copy of a book. I can fully believe that in the far future billions of years from now there will still be libraries filled with dusty old books and the smell of ever so slowly oxidizing paper.

    Lucky enough to be walking distance from local library, heated ramp and stairs for freezing Michigan days, walking in the smell of books greet you, and back in nonfiction Glass Floors to help keep the darkness at bay 📚📚🌌

      It was taken over by one of the local universities and is still in use. The main library moved to the civic centre on the foreshore with some amazing views of Swansea bay.

    I love books, and the smell of a proper, old-fashioned, library - the wood, the polish, with that underlying slight old-book smell. Having said that, you can't beat the smell of a new book. Great episode, but then there wasn't a bad episode in 10's tenure.

    My local library has a plaque in the entrance way that talks about renovations done in the 80's. They list a bunch of people who made the renovation possible. One of the names I'd Doctor David M Tennat. I took a picture of it after I saw Silence in the library.

    Honestly storing data in physical form is the safest way to preserve it. With so much technology anyone could hack into any database and delete everything in a blink. To destroy a book you need to be there close enough to do physical damage, which would be just as bad if you had a computer where data was stored. You lose a vulnerability to losing information by keeping books around.

      ​@@pikaparty4935which means shit all though? Most religious texts are very sexual (Bible, Quran, Torah). Many biographies are sexual. Why aren't they banned? I heard they banned 'to kill a mockingbird', how was that sexual? Also what constitutes sexual? What about rape. Is that sexual? Should we keep the kids in the dark about evils of society? Why isn't James bond banned for that matter 😂 he is the most sexual being ever? There's a long list of harmless things that are disgustingly sexual and completely melded in society. Why do we need to see that?
      Also I have no horse in that game, so pls don't assume my leanings or nationality 😂

      I like the doctors themselves. The top 3 are Jon Pertwee, a big 6'3" velvet green wearing perfect beautiful mother. Sylvester McCoy kept bending over getting into vans and hanging upside down. Patrick troughton was in slow mo away from the camera and playing his own evil twin with swept back hair. They're some beautiful beautiful beautiful older men.
