During the building of this guitar 2 of my grandparents have passed away due to natural causes after long and happy lives. This build is dedicated to them. One of them gifted me with the oppertunity to live in her home, in turn giving me a workshop for my own. And the other one was a woodworker who has gifted me a lot of tools which were used in this build. I am forever greatfull for having had them in my life.
This is my entry into the great guitar buildoff. After 5 months of hard work it is finally done. And what a result! This is truely a one of a kind guitar, with home made pickups, bridge, strapbuttons and tail piece. The guitar harbors a unique neck joint which I like to call a semi through neck construction, which i have never seen before. A custom body and headstock design, including ornemental pieces. The best inlay I have ever done (twice... you'll see) and soooo much more. Basically everything is done by me by hand, and I love it to pieces. I couldn't have dreamt of a better result.
thanks to Sophie, Mom, Dad, Hessel, Wander and others for the support and help in whatever way.
Music is from my own band, or from Romart (My bands bassist). Check out his other stuff here:

One of the best I've seen this year. You rock! I really like the music! Teach your cat to play. Oh that's right, cat have no thumbs.
Thanks! Too bad it was last years, may start on this years project soon though. Actually wrote and recorded the music on the final afternoon of the competition
It's like that awesome stump u got in ur backyard or best piece of drift wood u have ever found and you don't do nothing with it but dream of all the awesome shit u could make from it. This dude just brought that dream to life and did it lol
Thanks! Often you're just too afraid to mess it uo. But it helps that i have enough left for a couple more bodies
You are sick ! I learn a lots . Good job
One of the best builds I've seen and what a hard build with a piece of wood that doesn't want to work with u at all
It wasn't too bad. With enough patience and sharp chisels at least
Haha this was a blast 😁
You really went next level with this guitar Menno, it's unlike anything I've seen before, great work
Wow 👌 👏 amazing
That was awesome.
Thank you very much 😊
fantastic!
Cool guitar, and a funny video :)
awesome job)
Simply a work of art! Absolutely INCREDIBLE! Sheer brilliance, really!
Haha you're too kind sir :) thanks a lot
Your a beast!
And I thought I was creative. You did just great work man! may your grandparents memory be for a blessing. they must be proud :)
Thanks you so much for your kind words. I do hope they smiling somewhere up there
Had you mined your own copper I would have been almost slightly impressed. Holy **** you really went next level craftsmanship.
Hahahaha now there is a challenge. And i'll make the pots from carbon extracted from burned wood!
Beautiful guitar and a great video! Menno in zijn element! :D
Nice, very nice. Amanzing wood, job and guitar.
Amazing wood choice !!! i love the bark inclusions
Thanks so much. I was sooo lucky to have found that tree.
Bold risk - maybe no one will notice the background track as elevator Sonny and Cher
The instrument is impressive 👍
I honestly didn't know the song hahaha. This version was made by Romart a friend of mine. Thats for sure. But thanks for the compliment
Very impressive! A beautiful guitar - but the fact that you made everything (down to the pickups anc the bridge etc.) is amazing! 👏👍😎
Thanks so much! Even if the quality is slightly lower than prefab parts. Nothing is more beautiful than something home made
Brillant!
Wow he maguyvered his own pickups too
Realy, thats such an easy build. honestly, try it, for under 50 euros you can get some amazing sounding pickups
dang, great work, man! Love the build, and great execution on the video!
Thank you so much! You also did great yourself
great editing, acting, jamming, thank you !!
No, thank you for watching :)
Don't know if you''ll see this comment, great build. You should make a detailed video about how you applied that colored sunburst!
Thanks! I would, but there was not really a method to the madness xD what i remember is: first a layer of black stain, sand that back to enhance the grain.
Then for the colours there is not too much order in the. But on the outside of the burst i used most blues and purples, in the middle more greens and yellows. And in between reds. But mix it up, that makes it the most natural looking.
I basically based the colours a bit around this image of the crab nebula: www.google.com/search?q=crab+nebula&client=ms-android-samsung-gs-rev1&prmd=inv&sxsrf=ALiCzsYsXmcD3tH-2PY5LnYis7wxlmL-BQ:1662281161276&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjau4nx3_r5AhXH_qQKHeyRByEQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=412&bih=722&dpr=2.63#imgrc=ZYuYUWVmRLfdCM
And then in the end don't make the same mistake i made! I applies the oil with high grid wet and dry sandpaper, i believe 1500 grid. But that just blurred the colours... on the back i didn't do that and there the colours came out much brighter. Still love the front though
Hope that helped
Great Guitar. I love drum playing more than guitar playing :)
Been drumming for 15 years now, but never played the guitar as much. Spent much more time building the things hahaha
@@klunkmenno 😎🤘
Well done! Lovely job, I think you were brave to go with the burl, I know from experience it can be awkward. Very cool workshop! Also Yay! for cats in videos. :)
Man... those first clips of planing the burl... i had sharpened everything to perfection but it was just impossible. But all the sweat i put in definitely paid off! And yeah, i am a lucky man with a workshop and adorable cats, what more can you want? Ohyeah, a girlfriend who doesn't mind you spending time in the workshop. All set here hahaha
@@klunkmenno here's where i feel compelled to throw in in an old guitar joke.
what do you call a guitar player with no girlfriend?
Homeless.😆
@@yellowcat1310 home? Thats what you call guitar storage spaces right?
My man, this is beautiful, hell of a job!
Thanks! I had a blast and i am extremely satisfied with the result :)
Amazing!
I'll send you a bill for the woodscraps :P
Very nice result Menno!
Does a beer suffice?
@@klunkmenno sounds good to me!
Wauw Menno, echt sick nice!! +1 vote
Thaankksss :) ben er blij mee!
The cat was also confused.
He is permanently confused
Nice job, I hope that slab of burl stays stable for you. Rock on Brother from the U.S.A 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎹🎼👨🏻🦯
It'll just have to, but if all fails i still have the rest of the tree, i could make at least 2 more solid bodies, and have tops for maybe 5?
Nice build
cool cat
I liked that 1st Saturn inlay what was wrong with that
It broke xD and a lot of ebony dust got in the rings.
wood workers are all the same... We all make the same noises when doing something difficult finally works... (Neck fitting near the start). Made me laugh.
Nothing like a celebratory whoohoo
I think I get it now. Make the guitar out of the ugliest piece of wood on Earth.... That way, no one can blame it on the builder if it looks like shit. BRILLIANT!!
Exactly... Except the piece of wood was absolutely gorgeous hahahaha. I know all the little cracks and bark inclusions are not for everyone. But i do really love the raw look. I dont like perfection
@@klunkmenno It's OK man, I watched a guy make a guitar body out of coffee beans.
@@timhallas4275 oohhh i have seen that, that was insane xD
Lovely guitar, but I had to watch it in mute. It’s a good job you make guitars. Because you band sucks. Nice guitar though. 👍🏻
