    You'd think with that kind of foot traffic you could make most of your central park money back just having advertising space on your cart. I mean squarespace is sponsoring this... they'd certainly pay some money to a hot dog vendor.

    • @hkr667
      @hkr667 6 лет назад +47

      Fair comment. You'd assume they'd want to use it for their own stand and I bet they do, but does that help? People pretty much recognise a hot dog stand by the looks of it and are too lazy to find a different one anyway. The "Bob's Sausage Stand" sign isn't going to improve business. Might as well sell off the space.

      Actually yes, there is such a thing as American English because dialects are a thing that exists no matter how much someone may not like Americans. There is also African American Vernacular English which has something called the 'habitual be' which does not exist in other English dialects. The phrase 'he be working' means 'he has a job', not 'he is working' or 'he is busy'. The differences between American and British English are smaller, but the only thing required to be real and internally correct dialects is that we understand the meaning of what one another is saying. So yes, there is American English, no matter how ridiculous or inconsistent it is. That is English in general anyway. Therefore, the abbreviation is singular here. Doing some math.

If nobody is making money then people cut every possible corner to make the product less expensive. That means lower overall product quality. Profit is money that you can do anything with.
      You can choose to not pay your taxes.
      You can choose to be homeless.
      Hotdog cups, condiments, gas (etc) are not needed as a part of the service and usually only serve to enhance the quality or satisfaction gained from the service but not needed for the basis of the service itself. You can choose to buy those extras but doing so will obviously cut into your profit.
      All of this however can be made up for by raising the prices based on the assumed expenses.

    I used to work for the agency of urban environment in my country’s capital, writing licenses just like this. We had just recentlly started allowing food trucks in the city when I started there, but I remember the licenses were very expensive - and in high demand. We also had some other restrictions as well, like we only allowed pre-approved food truck concept. The intent was to have a variety of food options, instead of several vendors selling the same food. So applicants needed to present a concept of their food truck, show us the menus and even pictures/sketches of how the truck would look. We had regular controls of the food trucks, and any deviation from the approved concept could result in them losing the license.

But you are correct that the entire point of a business license is to limit competition (that's one of them anyway, the other point is to regulate them and make sure they're adhering to health and safety standards, in theory at least. Third reason a lot of governments have licensing requirements is well, just to raise revenue without the political backlash raising taxes usually creates.)

      The Roads Here Suck taxi medallions use to be worth up to 600k now they arent even 250k lol people dont understand that theres a HUGe supply of taxis and not enough demand. Thats why ppl dont make as much as they use to before. Not enough to go around for everyone

      Jesusjuice32 no you're wrong. It's all thanks to über medallions were going into the millions until it came along now anyone can be a cab driver.

      @Alejo__ 6 лет назад

      Master Chef exactly, my point anyone can be a cab driver. So there is a big supply of cab drivers, literally for every 10 cars i see here atleast 7 are cab drivers with tlc plates. Thats a big amount

    The new hot spot for carts is near the Vessel at Hudson yards. There are several almost 24 hours a day for the busses across from the Javits.
