@PB111627 Clearly members of the establishment are involved in it. Ireland is an island with only several routes in. They are not being covered deliberately. They know who the dealers and gangs are, and they could all be arrested today. Let that sink in.
In Dublin yesterday. A guy lying in a sleeping bag, noon, in front of Easons O'Connell St. An unoccupied tent and shopping trolly just around the corner. Another person asleep?? in a sleeping bag, in a doorway Westmoreland St. Still there, unmoving, 3 hrs later. Not one Garda on the beat that you could ask for assistance. 😢 I felt awful but afraid to approach on my own. It's truly shocking.
Will definitely contact the my local County Councillors, Peter. I urge everyone to do the same. This is absolutely shocking and totally inhumane. But for the grace of God go I. 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me. '” (Matthew 25:40)
The sheer arrogance and high-handedness of telling us we cannot give something, food (and solidarity and care) in this this instance to another person on our streets! They have a similarly stupid bylaw in the US city were I teach (I am a Dubliner living in the US) and a large group of teachers and students at my school break it every week to bring food and care packages to our homeless brother and sisters. As MLK wrote in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail, a bad law is a law that conflicts with the law of God and there is no obligation to obey a bad law.
People need to realise, most of these in positions of power don't give a f..k about ghe homelessness or hunger of those, (especially the Irish) in need,
Peter they have gone to far this time, if the people of Eire allows this to happen, may God forgive them 🙈🙈🙈 Peter I pray for you everyday and all the good men and women who wishes only the best for our beautiful country Eire 👍😉🇨🇮☘️Eire
Unbelievable....NOT, the next target, where are the services to replace the volunteers ?? A pure disgrace, maybe as you say they will open a few workhouses, this countries leaders are hellbent on stripping all the poor of their rights to actually be alive, Shared as usual Peter 😢😢😢
What in hell are homeless people going to do without the ability to obtain basic needs in food, as someone who was homeless for almost four years I depended on soup runs on a daily basis and without them I would have had no choice but to steal food as it took me over 8 months to receive an emergency payment and no doubt this will obviously drive already vulnerable people to crime either that or starve.
I think it’s wrong to stop soup kitchens for the homeless but I’ve been a volunteer on a soup kitchen and I can tell you most of the people benefiting are non nationals who are amply supplied of all there needs courtesy of the Irish tax payers and who have jumped on the band wagon depriving food from the real hungry homeless Irish people.
Well said Peter, this needs repeating again and again, even the disgrace of 40 people dying on the streets this year was glossed over by the mainstream media, the ruling elite are far removed from the experience of the vast majority of Irish people
While in government was there anything you ever done for anyone…? Well there was that time in the middle of winter when I shut down all the soup kitchens for the homeless
It’s a sick & inhumane policy they should be ashamed of themselves. Think we all need to get behind the charities that do this wonderful work for our most vulnerable.
What the heck is going on in Ireland, this is a total disaster and disgraceful in humane idea. But they don't mind sending Irish taxpayers money for overseas Aid. Bit of a back handed comment from the Council. Well done Perer for bringing this situation to light.
Are they going to take care of the people in their community? Have they offered a solution? What do they propose to do to end homelessness.? Patronising homelessness people adds insult to injury.
@@gerarddeegan1164 Being human is not a matter of bipedalism....or intelligence even. I'm not listing the Bidens, Netanyahus and Starmers high on that $£iding scale. The journalists and medics hanging on in there in Gaza when they could exit rank considerably higher. Humanity is a potentiality, not a given. There are plenty of articulate, well groomed simian throwbacks $£iding towards monstrosity quite complacently secure in there 'humanity'. And yet they want late night activity, drinking until 6am being suggested, Can imagine the outcome of that. We actually need more soup kitchens, well done to the fantastic people who are providing this service
It's not Dublin City Council but the councillors who want to ban soup kitchens. So name the individuals and their home addresses so people can call to them for a wee chat?
Sorry you didn’t get into council, what is wrong with people to vote the same useless idiots into power. No wonder they won’t make voting compulsory, they would be out
They can’t bear the SHAME of their failed housing/homelessness policies, they would prefer to let people starve and die of the cold, rather than face the truth. Shame them and ignore them.
I for the love of God why anyone" want close a soup kitchen,, complete ignorance as to how things are on the streets for the needy! That's evil ! Descrasfull on Thier bahalf,, who are they" bet they won't close the kitchens in Thier own homes!!
Most of the people who use soup kitchens are Brazilian Students in Cork. They are middle class Brazilians who just exploit it. Before Covid, it was just for homeless people who would use the soup kitchen however something changed and now its all Brazilian students. They leave the kitchen with a big grin on their face. It feels like someone sent out a message to the community during covid and it has just exploded since then.
. . I rent ( HAP) , late 50's, couldn't cope being homeless . If i'm made homeless by gov actions .. . I'm going getting myself a cell ( €100 000 a year one ) .. and the actions that would guarantee the cell for life .. that's how i feel .. would i do it, i don't know .. . It would be a major political action to take.
It'll be interesting to see if the Friday night group at the GPO are included in this disgraceful act of inhumanity towards those who are most in need of such services. I would think not imo 🤔
I worked in a guesthouse for the homeless in Dublin. It was about 30% traditional Irish and the rest foreign born. The trad Irish spent their spare cash on drink and drugs which made them the more difficult to deal with. They had money because they didn't have to pay rent or bills ie gas/electric/wifi/tv.
So dignity in life is measured by taking away services that communities provide out of the goodness of their heart to our most vulnerable that the state has forgotten about. Well don DCC, great bunch of lads !
S.F should organise a protest outside his house. A continuous protest until the bye law is rescinded. Day and night. A CONTINOUS 24 hour protest. Bring it back to their families.
We would not have so menny soup kitchens if we were to send them so,called skilled workers back to their contrys whair thair is no ware look at the impact its having on the Irish people in every sector descrasfull or politicians and our police have to be brought to justice ⚖ hopefully sum day
There are a number of indoor venues providing food to the homeless. There is no need for outdoor venues where proper hygiene facilities are not available.
What Is a Soup Kitchen…? The Irish government have designated a certain percentage of the Irish population (Homeless Irish Nationals) with Death, sadly and unfortunately a number of those designated with the Death sentence will succumb to it as the winter unfolds with health issues and the elements, hunger and hypothermia will reduce the percentages for the government. What Is a Soup Kitchen…? A soup kitchen is usually run and managed by volunteers that hand out warm drinks like tea coffee soup and sandwiches to those sentenced to the governments designated Death percentage, Dublin City Council and the government have decided that the soup kitchens are contributing to those on the governments designated death percentage list as having an unfair advantage of surviving so they are voting to make the soup kitchens illegal, what a legacy to be proud of when you collect your pension, sorry for the second post

what is the percentage of immigrants using the soup kitchens? I think it would be better if the community centres were used for local Irish people and Irish homeless people. i've heard that in the food bank in one town in Co. Donegal has a majority of Ukranians using it, I believe that many are taking advantage here.
When I first found your posts I found them quite interesting but now you are becoming shrill and your constant whining and moaning (which lest face it, the Irish do really well) is a real turn off. Blame the government blame the government, so an easy refrain of the lazy and clueless. At this point Peter you need to shit or get off the pot. Enough complaining and blaming others - get off your ass and do something yourself. Or stand for elected office. Looking at the posts below it seems many of your fellow whiners might want to do the same thing.

40 people died this year as a direct result of homelessness and 115 in 2021 alone, shame on the government. Absolute shame.
Shame on the drug dealers.
@PB111627 Clearly members of the establishment are involved in it. Ireland is an island with only several routes in. They are not being covered deliberately. They know who the dealers and gangs are, and they could all be arrested today. Let that sink in.
Nothing good comes from any of these taskforces , they really should be ashamed of themselves with this proposal

Hm..
Sorry, but You play harf and You were afraid to go and ask a person in need if He/She needs amything? 🤔
Dublin City Council another quango
It's just another 2 fingers to the homeless once again😡

So how is banning soup kitchens going to help?Who cares if non nationals use them?
Outrageous

Keep going with the great work Peter. 👏👏👏🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
there's more to this
someone's mate is going to get a contract with governments/charity money

It’s not an inhumane idea these dregs of society should be nowhere near the city centre it’s an absolute disgrace.
Well done Peter.
Thanks Peter

Thanks Peter for highlighting this. 😢 happy new year to you and your family ❤
Why would anybody in society today stop soup kitchens😮
I do believe they spoil the ambience for the boulevardiers.
@damienflinter4585 too bad we are all human

Problem us they are used by too many drug addicts.
Workhouses would be much clearer, safer and warmer
an the dublin middle class will sit around and let it happen.. same old same old
Hello peter
"Ban food banks " " they affect the bottom line of small shops"
.. YES this was said by a loony .
There is a homelessness website
No, I disagree, it's the right response. Its tacky. Very poor image for Dublin. It should have been stopped long ago.
