  • A look and test of the Uniden BC906W Wireless CB Microphone. I asked two DX contacts to give me a report on how the speaker microphone sounds.

I've been running one of these on my AT-6666 for a few months now. If you are not in a truck and don't need the noise cancelling, open that thing up and drill the plastic hole in the front out to about .25". That will make it so you don't have to talk so close to that little hole. The digital audio on this doesn't have much for dynamic range, so it is a bit like using a compressor. It really is a great little piece of gear to own, Uniden did a nice job on this one.

Did you have to modify the mic to work with the 6666

@@dxfordummies I just made an adapter that went from 6pin to 6 pin (straight through) so I could add a cable to go to the external speaker jack. You could just splice into the cable as well. The 6666 does supply the voltage (8.4v) the mic needs on pin 6, just no rx audio on pin 4. The pinout is exactly the same as a McKinley/980SSB otherwise. No worries about the 5v going to the stock condenser mic either(pin 1). Run your volume on the radio between 6-8 and it will work/sound just fine.

A few years ago I heard a guy who must have had that microphone in his coat pocket becaus it was keyed up for about 20 minutes while he snow blowed his driveway and then his wife called and talked for a bit. And went back to blowing the snow. It sounded good and clean audio. I bet it would be a neat convince.

I purchased one of these recently thanks to this video, it's a great microphone. I can sit in my car listening to my mobile cb while simultaneously monitoring my house base station from my driveway. It makes for interesting radio checks 😃. Anyways, I enjoy your videos. 73s from NH.

I can answer that question as to why you are getting more watts out with this mic. Factory setting for modulation in most radios is about 70%. With a louder audio input you can raise that to about 80%. With a compressor you can get 90%, if you have and O-scope you can adjust it to 100%. In other words you increased modulation with a louder audio signal

Always wondered why the 6 pin plug on the SSB 980...rx audio source pins!!!

I thought the same thing as I always thought of Unidens as 4 pin like the Cobras. Thanks for watching!

Been wanting to get one of these, I understand it can be paired with the president McKinley which I have.

Hi Bob, President actually made a wireless speaker microphone that looked just like the Uniden except it was branded as a "President Liberty" and it was sold overseas. I understand that they are discontinued now. I think the President radios use 13 volts on the #6 pin for power to the transmitter. Thanks for watching! 73s from 595 Northern Nevada.

I’m sorry to hear that. As far as I know, the wireless microphone only works with the Uniden 980 and I believe the 880. It uses a six pin connector in which two of the pins supply power to the transmitter.

Yea I Guess I will wait a little more or find me a Radio like the Striker 955 Hp that has the same Amount of Power and that it easy to use. Plus the Ability to use the Wireless Mic. It OK if you ever hear me on the Radio on LSB Miami 305 on 27.375 or 27,385 or even 395 give me a Shout out I'm Mainly on the Afternoon here in Miami

It's ok but I prefer a regular power Mic because it's just one thing that you have to depend on a lithium battery and a 9volt or really anything else you don't have to worry about for quite some time.

Is it necessary to do any kind of microphone modification on this like you did with the wired microphone? Removing that Noise Cancelling filter. Not sure the wireless microphone even has this in it since the microphone is not in the grill and is in the little hole below the speaker.

So I am running the same radio in just order the same mic. But let me ask you, how are you getting the DX? What wattage is your antenna? And are you using something to make it travel farther like a linear hint hint if so let your boy know

I'm using an Solarcon A-99 antenna mounted about 13 feet off the ground. I'm at about 5000 feet elevation surrounded by mountains on all sides. My location is really good for getting out barefoot. I have accidentally left my RM Italy KL 203-P on when switching from 10 meters to 11 meters running around 57 watts. :) Thanks for watching and 73s from 595 Lake Tahoe Nevada!

@@bradyseitz2883 I'm using a Pyramid 12 amp regulated power supply (model # PS14KX) for my Bearcat radio. For my amp and 2-meter radio, I'm using a Pyle 30 amp switching power supply (model # PSV300). I choose a regulated power supply for the radio, because they are supposed to generate less RF noise. To be honest, I've had other radios hooked up to the Pyle switching power supply and have not heard any RF noise. I also have lots of clip-on ferrite core rings attached to my power cords to try and block any possible RF noise. My old RoadTalker was very sensitive to RF noise, and the rings seem to help. The Bearcat seems pretty well shielded and I have never heard any RF noise on the speaker.
