    I'd mount the antenna away from all those trees.. Or put it up above the trees if possible.. Why be discrete? You're a radio operator, put the antenna where it's going to perform the best.. Who cares what others see.. LOL Man that antenna is way too LOW.. Oh well to each his own.. If you look in the instructions I believe they recommend at least 9 feet above the peak of your roof the bottom of the antenna should be.. The farther up the better the performance.. Your choice of where you mounted the antenna and its height is a poor choice, to say the least..

      I plan on raising the antenna some more, but we get some pretty strong winds in my location. I once measured a gust of 93 mph. It performs awesome at its current heigh. and I have talked all over the world on 10 meters using 80 watts. I've reached all 50 states and even Australia on 11 meters using 12 watts of power. I'm at 5000 feet elevation surrounded by mountains on all sides. I'm fortunate to live in a location where my signal is getting out further than you think it would with my set up. I believe it's because of the Sierra Nevada Mountains chain that is about 4 miles west of me that rise to an altitude of almost 11,000 feet. I believe that my signal is bouncing off the mountains and hits the D layer of the atmosphere at an angle that is favorable for long distance communication. I'm talking with contacts in Europe and Asia that are using big antennas with lots of power and getting great reports. Thanks for watching, 73!

      I read a forum post where a radio owner ran the update and lost memory banks M, N and O. I checked my radio, and I still have these bands with the factory default frequencies still there after updating. I don't know if the forum poster losing those three bands was an isolated issue, or if others are experiencing the same issue. There is not a lot of information out there as the update is fairly new. My update went smoothly with no problems. I would say update at your own risk and if you do, make sure you have a backup up the original configuration using the Anytone programing software. Please anyone else that has run the update, let us know how it went.

    Ridge, please be aware that this kind of antenna switch only switches the center conductor and connects the outside conductor of all of the cables connected through the switch. This can cause noise. You can test this by testing the continuity between each of the outside conductors for the cables. ruclips.net/video/lMMql1gEORQ/видео.html

    There are MAJOR stability issues with CPS2.0.5 / firmware 101. The only SAFE way to use CPS is to read the radio , make edits, immediately write it back. Loading a saved codeplug from disk and flashing to the radio can result in the loss of memory banks M,N and O. Also dual watch bank lists misses BANK K which screws up its operation. I have raised the dual watch with anytone, zero response.

    Great Video. Good for you working 10-meters! I am purchasing this radio. I do Dxing and use a Xeigu G90 (I have a 100 watt vintage Ten Tec Corsair but love the G90). My longest contact was 10,000 miles on the 10-meter band. The G90 is 20 watts. I wanted something with a a bit more power because I sometimes come across a hard to get country but lack enough power to bust the pile-up. You've chosen wisely with this rig. I read through the instruction manual and this radio has a lot of features. The biggest trick to making contacts on HF is the art of listening. While there are times I will jump right in - if it's a difficult to get contact - I first listen, get the callsign written down and then listen to how the contact asks for station replies and how the often large number of contacts responds. Often everyone talks at once, so more watts wins the race. Sometimes, there is a short silence and then a bunch of Hams talking at once. I try to give my callsign during those moments of silence. With 20 watts, I have beaten guys running a kilowatt to the contact. Enjoy HF, it's really fun and addictive...73...Hugh...KN6KNB

      @RidgeHikerAdventures 20 дней назад

      I 'm really enjoying this radio. I'm like you that I usually listen to try and get a call sign before I make contact. I usually record the call sign in when I'm having trouble understanding the contact. It's getting easier as I make more contacts. Thanks for watching, 73s!

    You're never going to have good sounding audio running it the way you are. Your audio is going to sound compressed and muffled. There's what's on paper and then there's what makes your audio loud and proud. Set that radio up for roughly a 1.5 watt dead key and adjust the modulation so it swings to around 15 watts. This will make the amp run cool and it will allow your audio to be loud and proud over the air. It's not that critical for this particular radio and amp, but when you're running 1,000 watts plus on AM it becomes critical that you don't burn up your equipment. There is no magic dead key number, each amplifier is different. If you're running 2879 transistors then you adjust the radios dead key so that each final transistor in the amplifier is dead keying 25 watts. 2 pill=50 watts, 4 pill=100 watts, etc. On a single final radio such as a Galaxy DX 959 that's approximately a 1.5 to 2 watts dead key and swing is exactly what you want! 25-35 watts of swing and a low dead key is the ticket to drive an amplifier efficiently. Your audio will be big and loud like a boss. Keep doing what you're doing if you want your audio to sound small and tiny. Go on AM channel 28 and listen to what big audio sounds like. I've been in the CB game for 30 years and talk skip all over the country. Like I said, there's what's on paper and then there's how you want your radio set up. Listen to how these HAM guys sound and then go listen to some big booming AM audio!
