Did it in my 30 th for 4 years, completely autonomous, solar panels, rain water etc.... now 30 years later I am trying to relive this but will not be the same, Nice that you are young, changes in a blink of an eye, believe me. Love your video.
What kind of washing machine do you have? Difficult when there's no washing machine with spinner if you are in the jungle always raining, we are currently in Kinabatangan River in Borneo.
Love your channel and as a 50 year old man everything you said is true about what to do with our time and money doesn’t make you happy. If I didn’t have my moms left I would probably do something like you but when they are gone watch out hahaha
I love your life. Why oh why didn't I try to do this sooner. I'm still gonna before I'm 50 but damn..... I should have done this years ago. People like you, Laura Landers, Delos, Atticus and the new comers Patrick and Michaela have made me realize one thing. I'm missing life as it rolls right on pass me with working every day. I tip my hat and beer to all of you that live life to its fullest on this journey.
Great video Dan! After 19 years of living and traveling aboard, my wife and I sometimes forget just how great we have it. Something to think about, however, is that despite the fact that we all have a dark shadow, none of us needs to kill in order to feel alive. I have heard you mention it before how dead all the reefs are in the Caribbean. As someone who also used to identify as self sufficient, while endlessly slaughtering animals on the reef, I have to ask you: Is it possible to provision our boats (ours is also 38 feet) with loads of good food --and let the last struggling remants of reef animals recover from all of our abuse? I hope you're doing well after that bout of Dengue.
I've worked on those $300m 250 ft mega yachts and I grew up with my dad's $60k 32 ft. I love both and have just as much fun on both but for different reasons. It's like trying to compare in-n-out to Ruth's Chris steak House.
Thank you so much for the video. I have been travel around US on my RV and planning to do it one more year. I want to be where you are after next year, but I don't know much about sailing. The plan is next year is to buy a small trailer sail boat like a Catalina 25. learn to sail on it for one year then move to blue water.
Excellent plan. I will be traveling around the USA in a camper with my twin teenage daughters in the summer of 2026. In 2027 I will sell the camper and buy a sailboat. I plan to live my retirement on it. I have sailing experience but you can learn most of the basics on that Catalina 25 you plan on getting. Best of luck to you and happy sailing.
I will always take the more simple way. Don’t get me wrong I’d love to own one of the silent electric yachts but also being able to just enjoy life on a small budget that allows you to make memories sounds better. One thing I’m thankful for is I am not materialistic. I downsize what I own all the time to only keep what I really need. Which will come in handy for the day that I finally end up on a boat.
I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma four-wheel-drive extended cab with almost 300,000 miles on it. It’s the six cylinder five speed with a stick. A very desirable truck, and I absolutely love it. But I don’t go around, comparing it to Cadillac Escalade’s. Trying to understand why you feel the need to justify your sailing experience, or why you’re even comparing your boat to mega yachts.
Guess it's just a boat thing. You land people wouldn't get it..... lol But actually, a gold chromed out monster truck next to your Tacoma would be a more apt comparison.
What gave you the impression that I am a land person? I have lived in South Florida my whole life. I’ve owned two sailboats. Multiple Boston whaler type boats. I kayaked from Chokoloskee to flamingo twice. Once solo. Chart and compass only. I was a treasure diver for 4 years. 200+ tank dives. I could go on, but you get my point. Stay safe out there.
I'm currently creating the ideal cruising boat (in my mind and on Google Drive) The hot shower, washer, and air conditioning would be a necessity and what I'm researching is what appliances are symbiotic... and the thermal waste from one is the power for another. Like a Tesla, I'm trying to scavenge any heat via "plate" heat exchangers to an insulated hot water tank. Many electrical appliances have waste heat (refrigerators, freezers, motors, Air Con (mini-splits). Even the PV solar panels would be happier with less heat. I'll let you know if I come up with a reasonable schematic. At anchor, I'll need a heat sink after the hot water tank is hot, so I guess a salt water hot tub will be next.
Number 5 is wrong. Superyachts can stay out and be self sufficient for weeks at a time. They can carry more food and provisions than small boats and a full tank of fuel will last a long time unless they’re constantly motoring for long periods like Atlantic crossing. Do you have a water maker on your boat?
good analysis of the differences, but one critical difference is that a number of the mega yachts are full of hot babes and chics and good times. you're boating by yourself, can be sad and lonely even in "paradise"
N°1- Carbon footprint ! A lot of Yacht owners hardly ever go out on the water. There's no time, they're off earning money. What a waste! The planet doesn't need people burning fuel and wasting its resources like building boats that they hardly use( or cars or whatever). We need environmentally friendly people on this planet!
Do you have boat insurance? You Said you do not need to ask permission from anyone to go where you want. Thats why i Ask because boat insurance seems to Be quite difficult to get For The whole caribbean For example
You don't need insurance living on the hook. Marinas usually require insurance. Insuring a 25k boat doesn't get you much, it's more like insuring your ability to get rescued if everything goes wrong.
As a new water Enthusiast, can i enjoy life in a manner you do, by Buying Elcat GoSun Inflatable boat. How would you Improve such a Boat to make one truely FULFILLED😅😅???
Mega yacht guy has to have a mega payroll for crew just to move his boat and keep it safe. We do not. Can you images having to pay for a Captain and crew every time you wanted to move your boat? Not only that but I believe something that big you got to crew it with a skipper and engineer every fracking day weather you are on it or not.
If I had multi millions I'd buy a decommissioned warship or a tallship, I think superyachts are kind of boring, if you want to live comfortably you have houses on land for that.
@@Adventureman_Dan i understand what you’re saying. But you link freedom to ‘what you need’ and you call that ‘true’ freedom’. I would argue that ‘true’ freedom stretches beyond being able to get what you need, but also what you want. And i’m not just referring to material possessions, but the financial freedom to do everything you want without having to worry about the money.
This is sad! When I was cruising the best thing about the lifestyle was that there was NO comparing. No one was poor, no one was rich, there were no classes. I'd be a lot happier if you described the wonderful time you had from meeting the people from these beautiful yachts.

you’re living the dream, that peace and quiet
peace and quiet is a most undervalued quality in modern society
Cheers buddy, I'm sure trying. :)
😂 i haven't left the boatyard yet but next week im installing the 200$ washing machine and the 139$ water heater . My 30 footer thinks it's a 44 🎉
What kind of washer and water heater? And where? Looking for a small washer and heater for my 33 foot boat

I have no idea how to sail and yet I can't stop looking for a used sailboat to rehab and head south. 😏
Many have sailed far by buying a boat and THEN learning. Though I don't personally recommend this process.
@@Adventureman_Dan I'm starting with a used Hobie I just bought. My plan is to learn the basics on that. Then evaluate my next move.
Lol, amd here I am in rural WV where the average income is $14,000 a year and thinking I would much rather have your boat then a yacht.
I might need to buy land there next then! :)
With all the boat yards you surely have access to you can’t find the parts to fix your anchor wench or at least a used one.

Making me want to get a boat more and more dan.
