    the rest of the youtube world has got 5 years to try to catch up now, but honestly this is the best tutorial video for the power stop I have ever seen. Thank you!

    Great video bro, never give up. I'm still mastering the powerstop and I think the hardest part is to build the skill equally in both legs.

    top tips for all slides
    1. do it on a smooth surface.. even abit wet is good. can practise at lower speed all the slides.
    2. wear in your wheels on edge you want to slide. fresh wheels will grip too much n difficult to slide
    3. practise practise and practise. Commit to the slide everytime you do it.

    Great video; Nice to see a guy in my age bracket step up. Not showing the polished final result but how to get there. That is instructional and motivational. Where do you practice?

      Oi I'm sixty and started inline skating a year ago. Both at a rink and out in the streets. It's amazing how many people stop me to have a chat and the same old question comes up. "Do you mind me asking, just how old you are?" Hahaha. I have just learnt about and started to use rockering on my skates and it's brilliant. Transitions are like magic, give it a go.

    As I get better I go back and review videos like this. After 15 months of skating at the age of 48 I am just beginning to be able to execute something that resembles a power stop at medium speed on smooth asphalt. If I go too fast I always chicken out. I have worn down my last set of wheels (80mm 85A) in 2 months instead of my usual 3 to 4 practicing.

    Just got a pair in the mail, tried them on, every time I rolled forward had no idea how to stop, fell a lot of times, its way harder than it looks to start seems with new wheels too, they are not broken in. I plan on falling down a ton of more times before I learn to stop once my wrist pain goes away lol.

    Nice vid. Try and lower the angle of the foot that is in front (the one doing the stop) so it slides and you gradually stop, it should help with higher speeds. Also check out Bill Stoppard's Drag to Powerslide stop. Basically you do the drag/T-drag to slow down and then jam your leg and do the Powerslide.

    I’ve been rollerblading for 2 months and I’m still terrified of even beginning to attempt any kinds of stops. 😩

    • @ryunyl
      @ryunyl 6 лет назад

      Heel brake is the easiest, you should learn that first haha!

    • @Snifffski
      @Snifffski 6 лет назад +1

      I'm less than a year into skating so I know how you feel. But I'm more terrified of NOT being able to do stops! Practise the heel brake first as it will allow you to get out and about on your skates. Next the t-stop and spin-out. Wear your pads and helmet - wristguards are a must. In time, as you practise turning methods, and with a bit of bloody-mindedness and determination, you will find yourself ready to attempt slides. Ten months into skating I'm just about doing a crappy powerslide, and a powerstop next to a handrail! But I will get there, and so will you. Loving doing it is the most important thing.

    What wheel hardness do you use? I'm trying to learn these techniques but my wheels are gripping too much and not sliding. they're 80a, is that too soft?

    • @anthonymso
      @anthonymso 7 лет назад

      Same question bro, I did try on my 83a and it might be a little too soft as it grips too much

    • @leonda4817
      @leonda4817 7 лет назад

      same here, i consider 83a too soft. road surface is also crucial

    • @NuZTheRockerOFFICIAL

      Try at least 84a.

  • @Rob-xl1yd

    I currently have a front rockered set up. I really like the agility it gives and Ideally I'd like to keep this set up whilst learning to powerslide and powerstop. My last few sessions have had limited success. I can manage some ok results when the surface is wet, but as soon as I apply my technique to a dry surface I achieve zero slide. My wheels are 84a but im considering moving to a harder wheel. Either 88a or 90a.
    What I'd like to know is - a) will my rockered set up be a big hindrance when learning to powerstop/slide? Should I move back to a standard 80mm X 4 set up?
    Will moving to a 90a wheel make much of a difference? And is this a smart option when considering I want to keep the front rockered set up?
    Any help is appreciated!

    • @InlinePilot
      @InlinePilot Год назад +1

      I also learned the powerslide using a rockered setup (4x90) and in my opinion it is actually much better than a flat setup. First of all, it is much easier to keep the rolling foot in balance during a long slide, by making small directional balance-adjustments. Secondly, when turning into a powerslide (instead of jumping) it makes it easier to turn the pivoting foot while it stays on the ground. A big risk I found is not rotating the pivoting foot a full 180 degrees, causing it to roll to the side while my sliding leg is continuing forwards, which can lead to some serious injury. Having that rocker makes it easier to force the foot into a full 180 degree turn, even when I fail to keep my weight on the front of the pivoting foot.
      But what helped me the most is practicing in a dusty parking garage with a smooth coated surface (not bare concrete). That's much easier to get into a slide, even when failing to put enough weight on the rolling foot.

    • @Burps___
      @Burps___ 8 лет назад

      Oops, sorry, you answered it at the end. Good luck, I'm trying to learn parallel stops now, too. The power slide, as you know, is not a true stop. The hockey stop is. I'll get it this year...gotta get used to the double edging, let us know your progress, Chakya Skater. And thanks.

  • @FrostySpork

    does the wheel affect the way u power slide. example, if u have gripppy wheels, will that make power sliding harder or u cant do at all

    • @HowToInlineSkate
      @HowToInlineSkate  8 лет назад

      It''s more difficult with grippy wheels but still possible. At 2:00 I wore grippy 85A wheels.

    • @HowToInlineSkate
      @HowToInlineSkate  8 лет назад

      Between one minute and two hours. If I have no time, I will just do a quick sprint / some power jumps / a few pull ups. When I am out skating, a 30 min workout often turns into two hours.

    Don't skate in the rain, super unsafe and bad for your skates. If you must skate in the rain, make sure to dry your bearings and wheels right when you finish skating to avoid rust and wear and tear
