I put myself on a low traffic road yesterday for the first time and found myself on a gentle slope unexpectedly. Had to immediately revert to the drag stop and found myself panicking quite a bit as I approached a small intersection with no room to do the slalom style slowing. Wish I had thought of using both feet alternatively to drag. Also, for anyone else watching, if you need to stop right at the end of the slope or even worse, mid slope, you will need to use a power stop/hard slalom stop to come to a complete stop usually. Practice doing it in narrow stretches. I didn't realise how wide I stopped until I was forced to narrow my movements yesterday and that was terrifying.
I agree. When shit hits the fan you revert to instincts, and if you don’t have a valid alternative in your library you are going to get hurt!
what i'm doing is.... just grab whatever you can :D
Also, a somewhat controlled fall is better than being hit by a car (used as a last resort obviously)
I once had to do a baseball slide and purposely wipe out so I didn’t hit a car
@@ewi57ty if you’re going down a big slope in like a neighborhood it just jump into somebody’s yard
Your one-footed jump over 4 steps while holding the camera stick is low key the most impressive action in this video😂🙌👌🏻
I think Bill’s tutorials are some of the best you can find on RUclips...
Big facts along with the condition drills too.
Thanks for the vid Bill, you are showing real world application of how to stop. This is unlike most of the training videos. Keep it up.
Wow, I've got a lot to learn.
This is the kind of video I need and want the most. There are many hills where I live. After 2 months or so at it 6+ hrs per week. I feel confident on most small slopes but still need work on slowing down and stopping at speed especially on rough / worn asphalt. I can T stop or use the heal brake but I can't do any power slides yet.
Your vids are great Bill. I just grabbed a pair of skates after 15+ years!
Michael Vera Thanks so much M. Great to hear you are back on blades; happy flying!
Same here man!
me too after 19 years!
Me too, after a couple of decades! Switching from quads to triskates as well.
@@sianlindsey7872 I've tried triskates 100 it was awesome but I have issues with breaking, it's too fast! so I swapped to inline 4x80 not as fast but I love how stable it is since I'm not that young anymore xD
Thanks for the precise language in all your videos. I just bought my first skates and they arrived in the mail today. These videos are very helpful in providing a clear learning curve and goals for practice.
I love your skate setup.
Спасибо ! Thank you Bill !
U make skating look unbelievably easy. Im still a beginner so this was massively helpful for me
Am in love with your skills
Thank you Bill!!! Great video💪🏻💁🏼🙌🏻
Thank you for this video. I have been skating for a while for fitness, but haven't learnt anything new for a while, and it's been playing on my mind that I have forgotten how to stop quickly like I used to be able to do in the 90s. I am almost 40 with 2 kids, and I am going to the park like a teenager to practice these moves!!! Thanks for the inspiration.
Raewyn Platts 31 here🤣🤣🤣
Awesome, people who keep learning never become old.
best video i've seen than those who talk more than demonstrate..thanks !
Super useful, thanks for sharing
Great videos BIll.
Great flows. Love the stopology.
Holy hell dude I'm 2 years late to this video but your sculpted legs and skill on those skates make me so envious you're gliding on those things my dude
Very quality and informative voice over. Definitely gonna study this for my stop skills!
Thank you for doing this videos. They help me so much, keep up the good work 😉
Thank you Bill. Your advise of using grass to stop in previous vids really helped today. I crashed 3 times today mostly on slight down heal and turning. Good thing I am wearing crash pads, elbow , knee , helmet and wrist guards as I am still a beginner. I am having a problem preventing my skates from doing the wobble! I plan another skate tomorrow to work on developing skills. I still have problems stopping good thing there are nice parks in southern California!
Devil Dog I got better at stops and slide in the wet.....maybe take some water with you lol
Newbie here myself. I get it. Yes, grass is our friend.
I hit up our local multi-use trail for the first time this past week-end. For someone like me, it was some serious cardio. Maybe my wheels need rotating? Got a bit of wear on 'em now.
Really had to clamp down hard on the laces / straps. That seemed to help reduce wobble but also made it feel like my circulation wasn't so good.
I guess it's back to ankle strengthening / wobble board practice.
Asphalt trail with gravel in some spots, due to parallel equestrian trails. So I now know what it's like to get a little clipped by a stray piece of gravel. Annoying and not as safe as I wish it were.
Man, SoCal.... you're probably pretty lucky skating-wise. Enjoy! Our skate parks here are small and our trails are few.
Working on the drag stop. I think I'll get there in a little while. = )
Thanks Bill, I needed this, nice timing! Getting better at dragging to a power stop, and alternating drag. Really enjoying my skating, I feel I've got better every time I'm out there! You were (and are) a big inspiration when I started inline skating, love your flows. Loving the three wheels too, was practising transitions in my last vid, and was surprised at how easy it felt. Happy rolling!
Johro's Inline Skater Channel I buy upcycled pre-loved equipment, can't wait for the 2nd hand triskate market to pick up :P
Got myself some powerslide infinity 125mm and I m loving it so far but I m a beginner. Such tutorials are gold worth and I just wanna say thanks! Greetings from switzerland
Beginning on 125mm woah! You are a brave one! You still on that size?
A master in action.
thanks bill....always helpful.....after clearing a very long jump.....with little room left to break.....running like a chicken on the grass really saved me.....keep it up big guy
Thank you for showing me proskatersplace. I honestly just ordered some inlines. I've been back and forth for a minute so it was nice to get a recommendation from someone with some clout lmao. Thanks for the video, too.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Thanks Bill your flow was a great "non tutorial" tutorial , confirmation that both leg T drag is so wise , not just for wheel wear? I twisted my knee on s fall ,so being able to T drag on either leg is a essential !
Yeah, so easy to favour the dominant leg; i do!
Estou aprendendo powerstop do seu jeito,👏👏👏👏
You are so good!
You are so fun to watch in action.
Really helpful, thanks ! :)
Great explanation and visuals, for a shadow talker!
you make it look so easy...
Someday, if I learn skating, it is because of you
idk much yet , but i'm liking the roller videos to keep up a folder as long as i learn things to check in couple weeks =)
Just turned 41 feeling inspired to get back on some blades since high school, still have some good balance and agility been ice skating with my kids for a few years now.. time for some wheels what of kind skates and wheels would recommend for stuff like you skate
Love THE video's, here in belgium. I go down hill. No problem. But how to get back up. Thats no easy
yes most of the training videos show exactly how to do it step by step, not just showing off...
super tute from the best
Thanks for your vids bill I keep trying some moves out, do you have any other cool and easy fun tricks 😄👍
Genio !!!
Toronto!!!!!!!!!!!
I use an 80mm wheel set up and ride on the streets, what would you recommend for a fast but durable wheel and bearing setup?
Bill Stoppard: stopping expert
Now i am 33, and i start skating, it feels great... Hahahaha, thanx bill... I still learning how to stop, it feels like i will falling, i will try better..
Must test this trick in my video uploaded... its break so cool andso strong...
Bill, did you ever see how you compared to inline speed skaters speed-wise? Your balance is as good as any speed skater, but I don't see you doing the double push technique.
Hey Bill, is it necessary to use all 4 wheels when you drag stop? I'm having a hard time getting my abductors open enough to get that full T with all 4 wheels, I'm still working on it
Can you pls explain for us beginners where the body is positioned when stopping. Do we lift the front wheels up when power stopping or turning for example. Or is it the knee positions that better guide ? I can’t get anywhere
Bill are you using Hypercrete Wheels plus G(rip)©, for general wear reduction? Great vid, looking forward to your slime slide tutorial lol....if you like slime sliding come to the UK lol.....
PLEASE HELP
1:55, when u do the stop your inner (left) skate, do you kind of very slightly lift front wheel up/using no weight on it and then turn the skate 180 degree backwards, or how do you split the weight on left skate to do it? is it like you turn by mostly front of skate and set weight for stability on back wheels?
Nice video. I’m a beginner and what frightens me about inlines is stopping. It’s so easy on ice. On inlines it takes so long to burn off speed. The power stop is pretty easy to learn but your preferred side is the opposite of mine. I’m right handed. A CW turn is natural for me. Anyway, a few stops you missed out, which you don’t seem to like. Dabbing one foot down in front at an angle, works at slow speeds. Placing both feet in a V formation, with good separation between them. Works at slow speed. Doing a sort of slalom, but the feet are wide apart, and the weight is mainly on the outside skate. I guess this is akin to your slalom, but pushing on the outside foot helps shed speed. When I’m going fast I so want to do a one foot outside edge hockey stop, or a vanilla hockey stop. But I’d go arse over tit. Actually I did go arse over tit. 🙄
Would you recommend power slide over t stop? I feel like power slides are safer.
How long would it *typically* take to learn the quick stop? Asking so I can evaluate if I'm doing something fundamentally wrong
If you are in Toronto can I meet you anywhere and you teach me some stop tricks. Much appreciated
Bill I really need a same skate in this video how can I get it
Love u trrr u t great
Wow Great
I am also Skater .......

I'm starting inline skating because I like to skate but I don't like rougher surfaces on my roller skates (quads are my comfort zone). I can drag stop with my right foot but nothing with the other side (I'm too scared of falling). How can I improve this? The power stop on ice skates is easy. Not for me on inlines, so far. Thanks!
How his front feet doesn't oscilate outside and inside in the drag stop?
Hi, can anyone tell me what skates are those?
what is that song in the intro?
Is it 100 or 110 wheel?
+ first comment :D
The wheels Bill is skating with are 100mm. The model is Powerslide Infinity Plus 88A (2nd generation).
What if you have to emergency stop going at high speeds for say a pedestrian or biker? Would the B stop still be effective? I'm a little apprehensive of doing it at high/ down hill speeds.
B Stop is the fastest way, to stop from high speed. A strongly employed drag stop can take so much speed off before you go into a powerstop. The powerstop has saved me from some very dicey situations. If you do the 'b stop' all the time in practice, it will be ridiculously consistant.
@@BillStoppard Thanks! Also, side question, being of a hockey background, whats your opinion on the "marsblade" frame wheel set up in general?
Can someone link me his headphones pls ? Thank You :D
Expensive skAtes
Sise👍
You remind me of Chris pine and Tom hanks
😯😯😯
hate drag stopping on skates. i can just feel my wheels getting destroyed
Yep, my legs are snapping if I try do that.
I cant slolom with my left leg at all!
Why is it bad to have a brake on your skate?
Thoses skates are wo.derfull
I wear a helmet.
Track name?
Detour - Gunnar Olsen
Every one : now we can stop I front of a puddle
Me: *turns around instead of stopping with different ways for no reason*
FBI OPEN UP
Where is your protective gear? You’re crazy!
Hi Bill, your wheels are too new and 'grippy' for braking 😕😕
Use à helmet....
U r right, jogging is too boring.
Skateboarders always bullying rollerbladers
why this jugging suckers thing , we all active ppl . I would never say skating or any other sport is for suckers
Compared to skating Jogging truly sucks; anything else is a lie.
dude.. how old are you? is that question fine for you or is it not?
I have no problem disclosing my age J. I'm 82, but my Pinto Pony T-shirts make me look much younger. You can get one at teespring.com/stores/pinto-pony-city-skaters
Why do you advertise to run without a helmet ?
Helmets can help for beginners or in the right situation. I believe that choices and skills are far more important than overconfidence in equipment.
Just use Heel Brakes... Problems solved, money saved, wheels condition top.
I would go through 1-2 heel brakes per week...only one point of friction offers a very weak way to stop. Great for beginners, but must be discarded of eventually.
Try to stop on heel brakes, going downhill when a car is crossing in front of you... IF you survive after that, tell me about your experience using heel brakes... Lol
白黒 Shirokuro .....going at 60 downhill that break will kill u 😂😂....its for my kid sister
@@BillStoppard can I also get a pair of skates of the same kind as yours
It's fucking ridiculous that a guy named Stoppard seems to always be showing off his stopping.
Where a helmet lmao
Real men don't skate.....get a day job
Rob Brenton enjoy being old and fragile before you have to be!
'Got one. And 'been skating for 27 years now.
Hippies!
Rob Brenton tell that to hockey players
