Minnie Riperton in concert performing If I Ever Lose This Heaven by Quincy Jones. She was also a vocalist on Quincy Jones' version from his Body Heat recording (c. 1974), singing with Leon Ware and Al Jarreau. Air date April 17, 1979. Live on Rock It! TV Show
Couldn't even move one arm, body in pain, and would be dead in less than a month after this performance, but performed until the very end. Had she lived she would have been a true legend. What a voice. What a professional.
How inspiring. She is being ravaged by cancer here and she goes out and gives the performance of a lifetime...while so many of us bitch and moan about headaches and working late, etc. RIP Minnie.
+hilljayne I know - Incredible right! Wow! Just Wow!
I have some much love for her and respect, she as well as Tammy Terrell who sang their hearts out in their darkest hours what professionals they were and they both left us too soon.😢
Even being as sick as she was, she owned that stage. Her expressions, her gestures and movements... she still sold the hell out of her performance. The more I watch and listen the more in awe of her I am.
Infinitely beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. I was devastated when I heard she’d passed. What an otherworldly talent!!
So she sang the word "Heaven" @1:23 with perfect diction and clarity while in the whistle register. I've never seen that done. She had amazing talent. Sometimes I don't think the world is ready for the wonderful talents that God places on this earth so He takes them back to be with Him.
Spare me. The world is ready. There were many others before these artists.
@@andrescruz7711 None like this one and there hasn't been one like her since. She was terminally ill dying of cancer, right arm paralyzed from the cancer but performed til the end. She died 3months after this performance while lying in her husband's arms.
@@andrescruz7711 no the world isn't when they praise so much of today's mediocrity disguised as music and ignore greater musicians and artists.🙄
There are times! Still get emotional listening to minnie.the day she passed I listen to memory lane over and over and cried and cried.i just couldn't understand why someone so gifted and beautiful had to leave us so soon
Yes. The way she says 'i don't wanna go" just gets me every time
Brings me to tears. We can hear the realness in her voice, an authenticity of the heart
Can't believe she's been gone over 40 years wow
Minnie still had a beautiful voice in spite of her terminal illness. God rest her soul.
So true paula.i was always in Awe about that knowing she had to go through chemo and radiation etc..she still managed to perform and sing.this was just a few months before she passed or weeks
Maya looks just like her mom, Minnie would be so proud of her daughter, she would have been a wonderful grandmother to her daughter’s 4 kids.
One of the most beautiful voices EVER!!!
AMEN!!
STOP PLAYIN' !
NO DISRESPECT TO ANY HIGH PITCHED FEMALE SINGERS
BUT.........
MINNIE TOOK THOSE NOTES TO HEIGHTS WHERE IT HAS NEVER BEEN BEFORE OR SINCE !
D.J. ENCORE ! Yes as much as I love Mariah Carey Minnie will always be the best.
I can't imagine the pain that she feels during this last year of her live. I miss her.
This is how it's done kidz, properly that is, the quality of sound wasn't good, but I luv this song, so I don't care, take any footage I can of Minnie. Battling a chronic illness, & stil sounded fantastic, looked amazing, & I'm just speechless @ the strength this wonderful woman had, made me admire her even more. Wish she did'nt have 2 go so soon, wonder what other priceless gems she'd have created.
BEAUTIFULLY SAID!!! THANK YOU!! RIH BEAUTIFUL ANGEL Minnie Riperton.
I love me some perfect angel. I wasn't born when she died. Read her story and took a listen to her music and ended up admiring her talent, resilience and courage. We might've lost her, but she certainly is making good music in heaven :)
Kimberly Griffin The tragedy of Minnies loss is what might have been? If given the time to fully mature who knows what might have been created. This was a mystical magical talent. Others had multi octave instruments hurt no one had Minnies soul and spirituality. Her sheer love of singing and performing and her connection to her audience and her art.
Kimberly Griffin terminal illness not chronic I have a few chronic illnesses.
Teta Angulo ditto I was born 1994 but I’ve always loved history so I decided to look her up and learn her story I’m so glad she lived another almost 4 years rather than the 6 mos they gave her because she left us a wonderful gift.
She still has a place in my heart....x
I cry every-time I see her and especially hear hear her music...!
I love Minnie Riperton's voice. So beautiful.

Epic vocal By Minnie. Gotta Love her!
This has gotta be towards the middle of 1979. Her right arm is paralyzed from the cancer that is killing her. She died on July 12 1979.
@Jason Foss, I did not know that bit of information. How devastating. And she looked & sounded incredible. 😢
yes true and she sounded good. she could not move that arm she did not suffer long. she was more worried about her babies at the time she always said she did not want to leave them. this song makes you want to cry
cherilyn JARVIS she got sick in late 1975 and was given 6 mos due to her positive attitude she lived another almost 4 years.

@@mistermilkman Had from Breast cancer. She died 3months after this performance.
@@naturalkinkycurlymarie7496 I know.
@@mistermilkman well since you used the present tense "has", it seemed like you didn't know so that's why he corrected you.
It is amazing how when hit that note, she do it without moving her mouth I can Mariah Carey do that no.
Danmmmmm the yr she died
This the wig she put on I still didn't now who she was hear loving you the song started it singing then auntie say it Minnie Robinson I I remember
1:23
After stumbling on this channel and seeing Minnie not only with Stevie of course, but George Benson, Peabo Bryson, Michael Jackson, ans Quincy Jones I had to go lay down. The intensity of the two entities was too much for me.
Underrated but the best of all time Maria Carey sit yo ass down somewhere
Don't disrespect this woman's legacy with negativity towards another talent. That is not what Minnie stood for. You should feel ashamed- you can't even spell the name correctly.
Does anyone know if there's a studio recording of this.not the Quincy Jones version
No studio version. This was recorded strictly for the Body Heat album. 😔😟
The Average White Band recorded it a year later. But the original is from Q’s ‘Body Heat’ with Minnie and Leon Ware doing vocals.
Poor thing knew only weeks to live
