Thank God for Stewart Copeland. Just goes to show with all of that technical capability, interpretation and playing for the song is king... Which is what Mr Copeland did.
think im addicted to this video.....it's bloody brilliant and thats swearing!....can't decide between the two and shouldn't have to.....it's not a competition its two extremely talented drummers putting thier individual twists on some copeland classics....love it!
some nobodies ripping on marco minnemann - seriously funny! :D one of the world's best drummers right there, and who cares that he's not playing exactly the way stewart copeland himself would have (it's called interpretation, by the way)? i'm sure he'd appreciate this impeccable performance quite a bit.
Older drummers who couldn't play rock the way Copeland did (by fusing Reggae) probably would've said the same thing about him.... It's called progression. Try listening to Minnemann on Steven Wilson's "Get all you deserve". Trust me, if this guy wanted to play it note for note with all the nuances he'd have no problem whatsoever!
This. Marco is the only drummer that I know of that can play Tech Death like Necrophagist then pump out some serious Jazz Fusion with the likes of Tony Levin, Matte Henderson, etc. He's fucking brilliant!
This is clearly NOT a tribute to Steward Copeland. Police songs sounded great because even with Stewarts busy playing and signature push feel he maintained a swing throughout. If you're a hammer everything looks like a nail. If you're a chop monster technician, every hole in a song looks like another opportunity for you to jam as many notes into it until theres no groove whatsoever left. What happened to space, time, tone, groove? Just because you can play a million notes doesn't mean you should.
+Ted 877 it's simply my opinion that Marco is overplaying on songs that I know and love. I'm not a fan of prog Rock either and that's what I hear going on. A tribute is not a facsimile like you said. A tribute by definition shows respect. This doesn't respect the songs at all as they've made them into simple platforms for these guys to solo on top of. Create a new version as a tribute and be musical. Or call it what it is. Drum solos over Police songs. This must have bothered you a lot since September when you first commented till today when you edited . I don't think I missed any point . I simply don't care for it and the video title is misleading in search results. Cheers!
Great technical drummers, very fast, but absolutely positively no soul ... It's funny, one good technical drummer can sound like another, and they all sound like machines. However, NOBODY sounds like Stewart, and I have yet to hear anybody faithfully play a police song because it can't be done - Stewart had something extra, non-machine like quality that simply can't be reproduced by these mere mortals.
Yeah, this is not a Copeland tribute. They don't even come close to his drumming style. Don't get me wrong though, both motherfuckers are motherfucking awesome.
Man, good drummer, but your double bass pedal... Copeland's particular style of drumming is based on hi-hat, snare, and single pedal. Sorry but nothing to do with his style.
Fair enough Guppismaximus, but as the heading here shows, this is supposed to be a tribute to Copeland, not a double bass drum solo. Progression?? The Police is past tense. And if this is a so-called tribute, then I would have expected to hear a drummer trying to mimic Copeland, not sounding like a heavy metal drummer over top of reggae inspired grooves. I think you miss the point I was trying to make. Nobody has ever successfully been able to copy Copeland note for note with every nuance. Don't care how good you are, or how well you solo. Just stating a fact. Cheers~
I have to agree. This drummer has chops to burn but this is no Copeland tribute! I have discovered a young Australian drummer, SamMarks, who has nailed the Copelanisms! Listen to his version of Synchronicity II (using drum less track) particularly 2:53! also Wrapped Around Your Finger, superb. Here's the link watch?v=hcH2G5vO1Xg Cheers
The mexican guy is much better, cause he's not really a technical player. Though I say that cause I'm not a fan of any technical drummers, and I'm especially not a fan of Marco
This guy may be a good drummer, but sadly it's like watching someone trying to pull off a heavy metal drum solo throughout each song, with all the ridiculous double bass pedals, and poly rhythms non-stop... He's certainly NO Stewart Copeland, that's for damn sure, and is far too busy not sounding like Copeland at all.
Thank God for Stewart Copeland. Just goes to show with all of that technical capability, interpretation and playing for the song is king... Which is what Mr Copeland did.

I can't believe this hasn't gotten a lot of thumbs up. Amazing drumming!
I am a drummer that admires Stewart Copeland too. He's my drum guru!
some nobodies ripping on marco minnemann - seriously funny! :D one of the world's best drummers right there, and who cares that he's not playing exactly the way stewart copeland himself would have (it's called interpretation, by the way)? i'm sure he'd appreciate this impeccable performance quite a bit.

they should just call it "Shredders Overplaying with Double Bass Pedals, for some reason, to Police Tunes", yeah?
Reminds me more of Terry Bozzio. Either way,...Really fun songs to play drums to. Thx
As a tribute to Ludwig, I sometimes play Beethoven's 5th Symphony on the piano at triple the speed. It sounds great.
they should just call it "Shredders Overplaying to Police Tunes", yeah?
@Evanskick18 it's name is DRIVEN TO TEARS
It's funny how cover artists tend to stay closer to the original songs than the actual artist.
This.
Marco is the only drummer that I know of that can play Tech Death like Necrophagist then pump out some serious Jazz Fusion with the likes of Tony Levin, Matte Henderson, etc. He's fucking brilliant!
Impressive...
They are not trying to copy him, is a musicians tribute, are you a muscician? I guess not. They admire the guy!
@glassmoon91 ¡Thank You!. . . :D
can someone list me the songs please
wanna hear exactly the way it is? Get the >CD
obs. Stewart Copeland!
is there anyway to get the full video performances of these?
This is no "tribute" to Stewart - quit the opposite, it's an atrocity.
@thomascompton800 the second one is next to you i think
"Sssssmmmmmookin'!!!!!"

I Like alex better,But Marco Is just killer.he has speed and badass beats

+Adam Mercer Since when does "tribute" mean facsimile? I think you're missing the point of this jam.
+Ted 877 it's simply my opinion that Marco is overplaying on songs that I know and love. I'm not a fan of prog Rock either and that's what I hear going on. A tribute is not a facsimile like you said. a reasonable facsimile !! That is quite impressive!!
@maxsal312 Driven to Tears
Alex lost the memo it was a tribute to copeland
That bassplayer is funny... Is he Brazilian or something?
I just realized it says Tributo a STEVEN Copeland?? Steven, really?? Might help to get his name right first.
+TRENDMASTERS melhorou ? erros acontecem... hahaha :D
@german80 SOOOOOOO wrong.. at first you cant even compare Minneman with Alex.. and saying that Minnemann doesnt have feeling is a stupid comment..
Great technical drummers, very fast, but absolutely positively no soul ... It's funny, one good technical drummer can sound like another, and they all sound like machines. That is the most ridiculous version of Hole in My life I have ever heard. I could never sit through this performance

Too busy!
Good musicians, really well done ...... but you can´t copy GOD !!!
nothing to do with The Police and Stewart Copeland. Don't say blasphemy
@aihoschema Relax bro, it was a joke. lol
Complete overkill from the drummer spoils it

Álex lo haces. Y además Álex tiene más
Alex tiene más precisión

The drumming is way over played :(
The drumming style could not be further away from Copeland... great drummer nonetheless, technically awesome, but sounds nothing like Stewart
Marco is ripping and thats not even close to heavy metal . Your just jelous
What a bad imitation of Sting :)
This was aids as a tribute.
