Nicholas is perfect in the role. Can't imagine anyone else as James Herriot. Superb !
I can imagine Christopher Timothy.
Well chris
@@claudemaassen2963 Christopher Timothy was not Scottish and a little too old for a character fresh out of veterinary college.
@@cherrypickle8332 I just watched some of the old series and like that too, the characters are fun and charming and the dialogue is superb for the most part.
But I agree, Chris doesn´t look at all like the 23-year old the real James Herriot was when he started working as a vet. And Chris doesn´t have a Scottish accent. In that way, the new adaptation is more accurate. I know it takes other liberties, but still.
You would watch the original series and compare. Also read the books. Alf Wright was a very interesting individual. A truly wonderful human being. He was extremely well-read and that's why his books were so well written.
I saw the '78 series and thought; this can't be made better. But with the 1e episode of the new series I am hooked ♥️
I've got the original All Creatures Great and Small on VHS cassettes and on DVD's including the 2021 PBS edition.
My opinion this is the greatest tv series i have ever seen i am a huge fan of the books and this is a masterpiece
Thank you for making this, I have the old series, it's wonderful for a Christian to have something clean and interesting to watch, and the scenery is a delight to see.
I wholeheartedly agree, Cynthia.
he is fantastic in the role. The subtlety of his acting is just brilliant. He really makes this role so believable and he makes it his own. Wonderful and so enjoyable to watch
Agreed! And an actual Scot too, from just up the road from me here in the Highlands. I believe this is his first proper acting role. Bless him, he seems very pure and gentle.
@@cherrypickle8332 I read he finnished drama school 2017 and this is his first on screen-part ever. I agree, you can´t tell he has so little experience. He is brilliant.
This guy is awesome! American fans like me, would really like him!!!!!!!!🇺🇸🥰📺
At such a time of sadness because of a plague. It's nice to have a TV series like this that puts a smile on your face, and adds no more sadness.
Plague????
I just loved watching All Creatures Great and Small! I also love the new All Creatures Great and Small on Masterpiece Theatre. Love the original BBC show but, this really takes the cake. Please keep making more episodes for Masterpiece Theatre PBS!
Nicholas Ralph is a brilliant actor!! His acting is beautifully subtle. It's like he's living it, not portraying a character. He is perfect in the role of James Herriot.
I loved it! Brought back so many memories of reading the books and watching the original series with my mom. I'm loving Samuel West as Siegfried, and can't wait to see Tristan next week. Thank you for remaking this charming series!
It´s a brilliant show with superb actors in every role and it´s hard to single one out. They all seems to be made for their parts and it´s a sheer joy to watch the show.
I adore this show so much!
I think there are a few million people who would also like to 'meet' Nicholas Ralph!
Love the new shows! Loved the old series, & thought I might have problems with new actors. But the new actors are amazing & I am so impressed with them; excellent choices!
I love the new crew of All Creatures Great and Small. I still watch the original series!
Wow the casting is spot on👍🏻
Although I loved the original series - I feel that that this series is just as good. I visited the village of Grassington a few years ago before they started filming there, so I enjoy seeing the outdoor scenes.
Loved Callum in The Durrels, so great to see him again
he's so good in it, a gentle soul who can get riled up if need be! he reminds me someone, can't put my finger on it haha like a cross between Kieran Culkin and Elijah Wood maybe?? lol
This series has gladdened my heart the actors are so natural bringing this wonderful story to life again you can see the joy it has brought to the whole cast a way of life of people living and working together amongst such beautiful countryside. May it always continue.
This the most wonderful show. It is just beautiful in every way.
Twelve months on and this series is real favourite .... the cast is fabulous ....
Great job selecting him as James Herriot! Outstanding young actor. He brings the character fully to life in such a way that you can’t help but love him!
What a sweet man! Perfectly cast for the part too!
This guy is Perfect!
❤❤❤
::looks up:: Huh? Oh, sure, he's cute. ::goes back to daydreaming over Samuel West::
ETA: ....I may have to eat a *little* bit of crow here because the second series has absolutely slammed me over the head with the fact that Nicholas Ralph is actually an outrageously talented actor who is utterly perfect for the role of James.
......Sam West is still my favorite though. [lol]
ah glad im not the only one haha!
@@N0ra23 No, you're not! He was great in Mr. Selfridge too 😊
@@gerganamargaritova5296 YES! Thats when my crush started haha
@@N0ra23 Ahh, the good old British Period Drama - the reason for the beginning of so many fandoms 😄
To be honest, I'm glad they gave Nicholas Ralph the chance to play the beloved character of James Herriot - it's good to see new faces 😊
Yup
In feature films the director is God; in documentary films God is the director.
Where can I watch this show?
Samuel West's hair dye is marking a clear border around his hair line! Please shave his head and stop covering up his baldness!
PBS shows now for sale. No longer for the public, just for the rich public. So sad, I used to love PBS.
you can still get it on your antenna or watch it online or download the pbs channel into your television and watch it free there.
Charity Bishop No PBS doesn’t keep them on line for long. Soon after airing they go to Passport. So you have to pay to view.
@@donnasachetti4546 Only after they have aired for free, which means if you stream them within one (or two) weeks, you can still see them for free. So, that's not exactly "only for the rich public." It's no different from when you had to tune in on a weekend to watch it as it aired. For the OP: make use of your local library. PBS and libraries partner up, so many of them purchase Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery programs as soon as they are available. And that IS free. :)
Great actor
They take away the magic before they even started. So sad.
Totally agree Rita
Now who tied you up and made you watch this? Take some responsibility!
Nonsense .
They have created magic.
