When this series was done the first time, I really didn’t think the most current one could touch it. The cast in the first series was superb, and, of course, the stories speak for themselves. However, as this adaptation has evolved, I am more and more touched by the deepness of the relationships and the way their personalities are being developed in such a humanistic way.

Mrs. Hall in the original books is nothing whatsoever like the Mrs. Hall in the new series. Mrs. Hall in the original series was much more like the character presented in the books. The new character is meant to reflect 21st century sensibilities. Lovely, but not as historically/culturally convincing. Also, writers of the new series have taken huge liberties with the original stories. I do hope people will actually read the books. They are wonderful.

Truly impertinent question here, but inquiring minds want to know: are the decorative lights on the Christmas tree toward the end really close to a chartreuse & Pepto-Bismol pink or did the camera distort what was green & red? If they are the more pastel, garish colors, is that because they used different types of tree lights back 83 years prior to the filming of this scene?

I wonder if this series will go on as long as the old one did, I believe there were 7 series and several specials. The original series of ACG&S made an agreement with Alf Wight (the true James Herriot and the author of the books) that they would stick to his books and only film stories from his books. This new series seems to be taking greater liberties. I like the new Mrs Hall (the original actress was also exceptional) but we have to suspend our hope for an accurate portrayal of the books.

Another great production from the Brits! I LOVE the show and purchased all three seasons and can’t wait for the fourth. Can’t get TV here in the US like this. Back in the 70’s and 80’s we had great TV but it’s all gone to hell now

i can't stand this series - I don't know where it comes from but nothing close to reality, can't hold a candle to the orignal 70s series.

Both of Wight's two children are on the set advising the actors and writers constantly.

This is a beautiful story. True to the book or not doesn’t bother me. The story has just been updated a little bit, that’s all. I love the gentle unfolding of a budding romance that pulls you in and makes you want to shout, “Come on Siegfried and Mrs Hall! When are you going to wake up and realize you’ve fallen in love?

@@shirleyjones3252 You see, that is the modern sensibility the creators have invented for this series. It is all Disney-ish and that annoys those of us who have read the original stories.
