I had 3 friends try to finish this over spring break. They played for the entire break and didnt finish.

Down here, salt is a way of life. The floor is salt, the walls are salt, the ceiling is salt, and even the air is salt to a certain degree.

I'm gonna be one of them Dokapon Nerds spamming advice and corrections way too late to be seen, but giggling at each and every mistake.
1) don't get too attached to your jobs, when you max out a job (it will tell you after the end of a battle, don't get trigger happy skipping text) dump it by heading back to Dokapon Castle and changing onto the next. For each job you master, you get permanent bonuses to stat increase on level up. For example, master being a theif, you get +1 speed everytime you level up on top of your usual level ups. Then when you master Warrior, you'll get +1 attack, so everytime you level up after that you'll be getting +1atk & +1spd.
Additionally, you get bonus cash in your weekly paycheck for every job mastered, meaning more money to spend on equipment. I've seen runs of this game where players get so far left behind because they keep putting off changing their job.
2) Speed affects the chance of dodging an attack/strike in battle, but also affects chance of hitting/dodging MAP spells (keep in mind that Battle Spells and Map spells are different and that Battle Magic cannot be dodged) realistically, it is rare to see dodges occur in battle unless there is a significant speed difference of 20 or more (I don't think anyone knows the actual formula, so i am talking mostly from anecdotal experience here).
3) (and I don't think the 3 guys need to hear this as they already seem to be having fun) iT iS oNlY GaEm, wHy dO yOu HeFf tO bE MyAd?
Don't take anything that occurs seriously. Certain game mechanics can seem unfair and like it ruins all the effort players have put into the game so far. But this shit isn't monopoly, it isn't a single person destroying the others, it is the game attempting to make the playing field equalised as the board is wiped mostly clean. Initially it can feel worse than a sucker punch seeing 6 digit figures get wiped to zero, but if you play 20 minutes longer and move on in the story you'll see that everyone's back to 6 figures again in no time until the next wipe out.
Sorry for the rambling and lack of conciseness, really looking forward to this series, this is one of the greatest multiplayer games i dont think i can successfully talk people into playing (and by having experienced it, I'm at an unfair advantage over newbies, as there are a lot of weird small features that can be misunderstood or missed)
Doesn't that mean anybody who runs Thief at the start has an advantage in the late-game because their speed will be way higher?
That goes for all classes. The Magician will get +1 Magic after the mastery and magic works the same as the original Pokémon. Magic is both Special Attack and Special Defense. Warrior can turn into a tank and one shot people if their defense and health are too low.

I have one friend who really wants to run story mode, but we haven't been able to convince anyone else. Which is reasonable, but I think 3 really is the minimum that I would want to play through this with. It's not dynamic enough with just 2. I have respected this game from afar for a long time, and played normal mode a couple times. It is the ultimate board game video game, I think.
The 1-shot, and this LP, have convinced me to play this, and see if I can rope some peeps I know (not calling them friends, but friends of friends-all the better for when we want to murder each other at the end of this) into this action.
So I appreciate these tips, and many more. I wonder if starting as a Mage for stronger spells is better than starting as a Warrior to be able to survive the early game easier... On the other hand, the fem-warrior is cute...
(And yeah, we can't decide if I'm the Woolie or the Liam of our social-circle).

And from that day forward, God said to Reggie; be the bearer of chat's sins, become Satan, and lay ruin to Woolie's bs win streak. And Reggie said; please no, I like my friends.
Then God proceeded to play Woolie a fool while keeping Reggie alive.
I dunno, if anyone seems like they're going to accept the Red Behelit, it's gonna be Minh. Pre-existing grudges against both of them ("DID YOU FORGET THE DUCK?!" made me laugh so hard; meanwhile he's already tried to attack/sabotage Woolie several times), and already losing? Not to mention a SBFBrawl grade preference for "I'd rather you lose than I win"; Minh's future is set in stone.
If Woolie had more honor, he'd be Guts. Reggie's mindbreak makes him a good fit for Casca... Dokapon Kingdom:Berserk Edition.

SP is dodge chance, fellas, and you'll want a lot of that for later on. The faster you are than your opponent, the higher chance you'll dodge their attacks.

Very important tip, you can hit y, or whatever you mapped it to, after spinning to see all possible spaces you can go to. Very helpful when you use spinner items, or if there are a lot of possible routes to take.

First fail, “make the right decision you will be having it for a long time” gender yes, Job no, this is Story mode you ARE going to have to change your job many times throughout this 1 and something episode series.
I came to check the series out after the Nascar with a hard R conversation, 4 minutes in and Woolie does not disappoint.
There is no LP I desire more than this one on this channel. The last Dokapon video was solid gold and so far, this entire series is on course for maintaining a similar quality.

Now, I'm going to reference some particular mechanics to relay my first experience with this game, so if you don't want them spoiled for you, no need to read this; I just want to document the extent of the kind of shenanigans this game can inflict, and how I essentially struck an eldritch pact in it, Dnd-style...
So, the best part about playing any game with communication between players, especially Free-For-All games, is the potential for politics. Take my VERY FIRST GAME of Dokapon, for instance. After being set on the back foot repeatedly for the majority of time we spent on the first island, one player (let's call him "M") was assigned the Revenge state. When a player is in this state, they can travel to a single, specific space on the first island called the Dark Space, where they can trade all of their resources (ALL of them) to become a Darkling. The Darkling is basically a player-controlled boss. They roll for certain amounts of Dark Art Points every turn, and can spend sums of them to do anything from price-gouging shops to calling monsters to every settlement to flat-out killing every player on the island to RIGGING EVERY FREE SPACE SO THAT IF SOMEONE LANDS ON THEM, THEY IMMEDIATELY FIGHT THE DARKLING. They are objectively impossible to beat normally by the way, since when a player becomes the Darkling, their stats are TRIPLED for the duration, which is three weeks I think, and they are given the most powerful spells and weapons in the game.
Anyway, so M becomes the Darkling, and the rest of the players and I do a decent job avoiding his battle-rigged spaces... at least, until a bad spin forces be onto one. Now, the first thing that M did when he became the Darkling was kill me, since I was the one who inconvenienced him last, but now I've been forced into an impossible battle that will probably disable me for the full three turns RIGHT when I was getting back into the swing of things.
And here's where politics kick in.
Through voice chat, I consult with M. Is it really worth killing me again? Everything bad I did to him was long in the past by now, and I was never going out of my way to target him anyway (except for that one time, but again, the past is past). Moreover, should we come to an accord, I as an alive player would be of far more use to him than if I was dead for three turns and left to squeak behind everyone else with no real way of ever getting back in the game. And so, we made our offers: not only was I to never target him again over the course of the game, but I was also to soft-target everyone else. In return, on his attack in that battle, he swore to Strike while I would Counter. M agreed to let me dispel his Darkling form and gain its MASSIVE experience value, jump-starting me right back into the game, in return for my eternal servitude. And you know what?
It worked.
M didn't go back on his word. I actually killed the Darkling, not through force, but through wits. Of course, now I'm bound by my eldritch dealings, which may or may not hinder my developments in the future, but eh, details. Anyway, that's how I struck a Dnd-style Warlock pact with another player in Dokapon Kingdom.
Yeah, this game is wild.

And based on the first ~8 minutes of the first video in the playlist, I think the salt of the 'omg this is not even close to over' will be glorious. Oh wow, this is actually happening. I was perfectly satisfied with the battle royal episode. But if this is happening I will stick around to see what happens. As someone who played through this entire story mode solo with 3 AI opponents, there are a bunch of moments I am looking forward to seeing.
I'm surprised how (seemingly) nobody in the comments mentioned that Woolie's first priority should've been to take Reggie's Rust.
They kept saying that "money doesn't mean anything, it comes and goes" -- yet Woolie prioritized money over taking out a tool that makes Reggie really terrifying to fight.
