The microphone thing... just made me laugh. When they got to Richard, I said "Where's his microphone?" And he had it up his sleeve. That was all priceless.
H/H match update: ... ~~~Today's action: The challenger needed five matches to stay in the game. She got zero. Our champion gets to stand next to Gene for the third time. *Today's audience match question: "Georgia________"* (My thoughts: On My Mind, O'Keefe, Pacific) The celebs: Richard (On My Mind), Charles (Southern), Brett (Peach) The choice: Peach (Wow, I was not expecting that choice!) The answers: Tech, Brown (duh), Peach (!!) - Kudos to Brett for coming up with the top answer in third position. (I'm surprised that "On My Mind" wasn't up there somewhere.) The second day in a row that the champion fortunately ignored Richard's suggestion. But I'm still 99.99% convinced she'll choose him for the head-to-head anyway. And why shouldn't she? They've scored two matches already, so they're clearly on the same wavelength. This is now King Richard's tenth consecutive play, and he's been chosen 128 of the past 140 times. (Charles answered three of the remaining questions, Fannie also took three, and Rosemary Forsyth, Nipsey Russell, Meg Bennett, Scoey Mitchell, Brett, and Trish Stewart got one each.) Stats: Richard has matched 80 of his 183 most recent attempts (43.7%), 63 of his last 140 attempts (45.0%), 43 of his last 90 attempts (47.8%), and 19 of his last 43 attempts (44.2%). His overall success rate is *42.1%* and this is his 661st attempt so far. Richard has been on a hot streak lately, having matched on his past four H/H questions. For the sake of comparison: Charles has matched 33 of his 66 attempts (50.0%), and Brett has matched 29 of her 69 attempts (42.0%). Patti has matched one of her two attempts. Debralee and Edward have so far never played a head-to-head question. *Today's H/H question: "Are you________?"* (Are you serious? Are you there? Are you okay? Are you awake? Are you sleeping? Another question that seems to have a plethora of valid answers. I have no clue. I guess I'll say "Are you sleeping?" perhaps influenced by the old nursery rhyme/song "Frère Jacques.") Interesting. The champion immediately looks happy. She's got her answer right off the bat. Richard, though, looks undecided or even puzzled. Still, he puts down an answer fairly quickly, and then looks to Patti as if to get her feedback. Richard shrugs and files his card. The champion says "Are you ready?" I like it. The audience seems to like it too. But there are several good answers. Richard came up with my second thought: "There." No H/H match today. ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 wins in 7 attempts). (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!") -- Also, note that episode 849 was never produced. Additionally, these stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969.
I thought Debralee was always cute. The way she died was a damn shame. (for those who don't remember - she met and fell very much in love with a Port Authority N.Y. police officer. He was killed during the attacks on the 2 World Trade Center buildings. She went into a deep depression, and turned to alcohol in attempt to cope. However, as in almost every case, that didn't work. She eventually ruined her health, and died as a result RIP, pretty girl.
With all the verbal sniping between Brett and Charles in this episodes, not to mention all the previous episodes they shared, it's surprising it took another year for Gene to get frustrated and move Charles to the lower tier for half an episode to keep the peace. What's even weirder, I've seen that particular episode about 100 times on Buzzr and I have never seen Charles being so extra annoying that Gene would do that (don't get me wrong, I love Brett and Charles both, but I just find it strange that Gene didn't snap long before).
This is actually laughable. You DO know that Match Game is half comedy right? You DO know that Brett and Charles were good friends right? You DO know that what Brett and Charles said to each other wasn't real right and you DO know that Gene went along with it because it's all comedy. 🤦 Makes me think people like you don't understand this show at all.
Gosh, I enjoyed their antics. It was clear Brett and CNR loved each other (as friends, obviously) and were just playing around. When Gene gets "mad" at them, he's just playing along too. Gene also clearly loved and admired the regular panelists.
Ahhh how fast they come and go 😞 Debra was so cute😊 Today they call us "empty nester's" ( I'm by no means putting the Stars down) it goes to show how bad the education system was back when most of them went to school... several of them were not good sellers or didn't know how to spell it at all ..i know spelling didn't count Gene always said that because of time and pressure on them Brett & Debra both said they didn't know how to spell words.
Wow! Brett was so Annoying!! I'll bet she got on everyone's nerves at some point. And Ed Asner came off very "dickish" in this episode. I love the bottom tier!
Why would you are Garfield another opportunity to bad mouth Brett. He's been doing it for 4 years. It's a little late for HIM to grow up, but can YOU try.
This episode aired on nbc cbs back on Halloween day debut of match game Hollywood squares hour on Monday 10 31 1983 the return Of gene Rayburn and match game and Jon bonham did return of Hollywood squares til Fri 7 27 1984 back when Michael Jackson did his Thriller
I also love Charles' outfit today, handsome. And I usually like the shirts he wears, the ones that look silk in one color.
I have always admired Gene's wardrobe, one of the best dressed men on television.
Joel Jimenez my favorite suit combinations include this one, the one on episode 1005, and the Great Gatsby Suit seen on episode 948.
They are much, much better than they were in ‘73, ‘74, and ‘75.
He was always beautifully dressed bless you gene
Yes, I agree 💯%, and Richard looks spiffy in his suit & tie here, too, although his handkerchief doesn't match... 🤦♀️
CBS provided him with the clothes. One time he joked about wanting to steal some of the clothes.
Gene's suit is fantastic!
The microphone thing... just made me laugh. When they got to Richard, I said "Where's his microphone?" And he had it up his sleeve. That was all priceless.
ME, too!! 🎤😁

On this date in 1965, Skyscraper tv movie starring Charles Nelson Reilly as Roger Summerhill aired.
If they could say Georgia Tech they surely could have said Georgia Bulldogs
“Georgia Southern” sounds like a railroad.
Could Asner NOT want to play this game any more than he does?
Isn't there a type of cologne called eau de toilet? That's all I could think of
I think he is serious about the 🎙️🎤. Brett chomping on gum. Yuk
Gene did indeed say "Flat Phyllis" the first time. :)

OMG Debralee is especially cute this time.

I hope they bring match game back to abc again in the future don't know when but it made comeback in fall 1983
It's so odd that the judges were so lenient in this episode and so strict the next episode.
Strict??..I'd say DUMM!!!....
