The quote _"hyper chicken from a backwoods asteroid"_ makes me wonder if the idea of the character was partly inspired by Space Quest's side game "Astro Chicken". I'm certain the other inspirations are definitely of Foghorn Leghorn and Matlock.
It’s the bit characters that make Futurama. Hedonism Bot, hypnotoad, Lrrrr, clamps, möbius dick, the robot preacher, the robot devil…it’s just such a complete and rich world. All my favorite book/tv/movie franchises have that in common.

The thing I find funny about the scene where Bender and Fry are on trial for aiding Roberto during his bank robbery, Roberto himself is in the gallery. He may be crazy, but you'd think he's not stupid enough to show up to the trial when Bender and Fry could easily implicate him as their partner, plus he shows up in the security footage.

How the fuck is this show not on anymore but Family Guy is still pumping out utter shite weekly. It’s baffling. Futurama was hilarious. At least Rick and Morty kinda picked up the torch in that area.
It's the same reason why Fox continues to bring back the increasingly rotten corpse of The Simpsons. Despite the Simpsons' massive success, you'd think Fox would support another Matt Groening TV show. However fox was less supportive than a collapsing building. They never wanted futurama to succeed; constantly moving time slots, aired episodes out of order. It's a damn shame, in my mind Futurama is superior to both Simpsons and family guy combined.
