I had no idea that they added all this Pirates of the Caribbean stuff on the island, if I had known I would've visited it when I was there 2 years ago!
back when the fort was open there was a snack bar inside. one of my favorite things to do would be to get a chocolate chip cookie and a root beer, and sit at the back of the island listening to the waterfall across the river, and watching for the mark twain to pass by. it was a very tranquil place. i hope when the island reopens there'll be a place like that again. the last few years its been a photo op with "pirates treasure". so much for tranquility.
This video is amazing! As a fellow Disneyland addict, I like watching Disneyland videos when I'm not actually there, and also watching informative videos about Disneyland, so these basically sum up what I'm looking for perfectly! I love you're comments throughout the videos, they're hilarious, keep doin' what you're doin'!
I swear that that guy that popped up when you touched his silver was the Hatbox Ghost!! :-) I really do enjoy your videos. I used to be a CM at the hotel and I moved to the Pac NW in 2003. I miss it there so much. Thank you for these videos. They give me a little "fix". :-)
There was a guy on LSD back in the day, playing the trumpet on the Tomorrow Land stage. His disappeared from the stage and then he reappeared on the big rock in the Rivers of America near Tom Sawyer Island- NAKED! He was directing traffic for the canoes and keel boat riders while people pointed at him and laughed. The security tried to stop reporters from making pictures but it was too late. The headlines said, "NUDE DUDE IN DISNEYLAND"
These videos are great. I remember exploring Fort Wilderness back in the day and snooping around in Injun Joe's cave. Good to see that the caves are still there. Sure wish they'd restore Fort Wilderness though.
This video brings back great memories of Tom Sawyer's Island. I always enjoy these bits. I didn't know the island had all the Pirate's of the Caribbean features. TOO COOL. Thanks!! Now I need to Exit the warrior- Today's Tom Sawyer and get right on to the friction of the day!!!
Only been to Disneyland twice in my life. Once when I was about 12, and another just last summer when I was 20. At first, I didn't expect I would love it as much as I did, and I don't think I even did when I came back. But after watching your videos and remembering how much fun I had, I can't wait to go back! Already planning my next two trips, which should both be next year. Can't wait!
There is so much more on that island than I remember. Haven't been on in years now I feel like I should change that. P.s. I thought that tattoo was of Edgar Allen Poe which I also accepted as cool.
I really like your videos. They are informative in such an entertaining and fun way... I can't stop watching them! It makes me want to go to Disneyland so much! I haven't ever been yet but hopefully some day soon I can, and when I do, I will definitely be looking for all the odd/random things you have pointed out in your videos.
Nice job. My wife and i are huge wdw fans who cant visit for bit while we have our first born. Your videos are holding us over and have us look forward to see the origional disneyLAND. Keep up the good work!
will be at disneyland with my boy oct 29th through nov 3rd. cant wait! we usually do the world but this year we are doing the land. so excited and i must say, the island is still my favorite place to just do nothing more than sit and enjoy being in the park.
In my opinion, Tom Sawyer's Island has one of the coolest views of Splash Mountain! Once you step off the raft, walk down the path to your left a bit and you can see right down the tunnel at the end of the drop. It's always neat to see the logs come down and see people's reactions once they reach the bottom.
Making me wish I hadn't been such a "cool teenager" when I was there. I left the family so I could just hang out at the dock, scoping girls while trying my best to look cooooool.... Now I have to go back and actually explore the island, I missed so much!
I loved Fort Wilderness when I was a kid, almost 50 years ago. They had replicas of civil war style rifles you could pretend to shoot from the towers. Sorry to hear its now closed. Sad,
Jarred - I just discovered your Disney videos and I'm enjoying them immensely... You're funny, charming and informative... I don't get to Disneyland more than once every few years, so I'm looking forward to watching your newest videos in the future... Happy 2014 and best of luck with future videos....
I just looked this up when I found out my wife, who used to live near Disneyland, and went many times as a child, was unaware that you could go onto the island and play in the caves, fort, etc. I had no idea that the fort was closed. Like several comments below I also found it a peaceful place to chill for a bit with a lemonade from the "trading post" and take a break from the bustle of the park.
You know I thought I had been on everything at Disneyland but boy was I wrong. I've never been on this island and many other rides that I never knew were there. It's so huge damn.
Another wonderful video! Niece loved it and your Twain tat. She wants to start reading Tom S. because the island looked wonderful. Keep up the great work.
The random comments are funny, "Free lunch from your kitchen, YUM!" 3:35 Huck Finn's original toilet. The island has become a lot more grisly since I was a kid. Skeletons appear when pumping water and/or pulling up a chain? COOL!
hey Justin!!! lovin the videos!!!! I'm glad you did Tom Sawyers Island!! My favorite fact about the island: The entire island is actually owned by the state of Missouri, which is why there is no merchandise there. They would all be under different state taxes! Idk if you knew that, but if not, there's a little fact I, only a fan, have just taught you (a big honor) :)
Havent been on the island in years and unfortunately cant now. well for now at least because the far half of the island and lake are being used for Starwars land. they already drained the lake and have broken ground. my dads company he works for is doing the job so i get to hear about it. infact my uncle is running the whole operation so thats pretty cool. great vids by the way.
My Dad and I, when I was 10 years old, were howling like wolves inside the cave. I'll never forget the 2 park employees with their flashlights out at the end of the cave, they legit thought there were wolves in there hahaha.
DEFINITELY! I had a couple of shots of Splash Mountain I had to cut to get it under 15 minutes but I want to go back and ride that ride anyways (now that it's getting cold and the line's shorter) and film it.
Since I was born my Great Grandpa would always remind me that the Fedora is king amongst hats, and every Gentleman should own one. "Gentleman" was always said with a wink. Haha
I have never seen him in person, but I did notice a VERY recent 2013 RUclips upload of him, so he's still around. I think he comes out between Star Tours and the Plaza Inn restaurant from time to time, but only when it's very crowded or very dead
Aw darn! I would've loved to meet you! I enjoy your videos a lot and I love your bands music. I'm going to Disneyland for my 17th birthday. But I go a few times a year, so hopefully I'll have another chance to possibly run into you!
When my family went to Disney world once (when I was about 7) , we went to Tom Sawyer island with a family from my church. While we were in the cave the dad yelled and it scared me to death
Hahaha You and me both. The great thing about Spreadshirt is I don't have to print them myself (like I used to for my band) the bad thing is that means I have to buy them also. Haha
WHAT!!! Thats awesome! I'm probably not going again til next week, was planning on Tomorrow (Tues) but it looks like I might get to go to that other magical place instead.....the Dentist...... :/
Haha - It's pretty short and I went across it really fast. I only get freaked out if it's really high up or if I have a chance to think about it. Plus to your right the ground is pretty much at the same level as the bridge so I just keep my eyes on that side and move at a brisk pace! Haha
I DO remember seeing them for a bit, but I'm not sure if it was in DCA or at the Disney store. It might have been a limited time thing. I will definitely look next time I go! If I dont answer here again, remind me. :)
I went last year but I only got in the Boyhood Home and Museum. Didn't have time for the cave or anything else. It was the highlight and bummer of my life. Haha. Highlight cuz I always wanted to go, Bummer because I only had about 5 hours. I'm hoping to go back in July
Yeah they re-themed it all around that. Some people hate it, I'm just happy they didn't turn it into one giant DVD store and finally re-opened the caves! They were closed for a loooooong time before the Pirates $ justified reopening them all
Man the things me and my friends did on that island when we were young, the horrors we subjected innocent Japanese tourists to on the suspension and pontoon bridges. Nothing evil, just jumping to cause it to pitch up and down, it was a badge of honor to make it all the way across while we were rocking it all over the place, but that was many many years ago, and the park employees run a much tighter ship (or island) today.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I hope they where guided tours in that island you can do a lot of walking and not go anywhere or skip things...(I think you forgot to put the link of the video of the "smelletor"? 8:00)
I too sometimes have mixed feelings about changes at Disney. However, we have to roll with the changes and they are usually well done. Also, Twainiac, ever been to Hannibal? We're just up the river from there!
LOL! I totally understand, well sending good thoughts your way for your "change to not be so strange" so a LiveFastDiePoor Disney World video can happen. :-)
Loooved this, (as I do all your videos). I was always assuming you used a phone for all your videos, but now I see, (well heard actually), that you use a DSLR, right? Which model?

Same here, Courtney! I get withdrawals if I don't somehow get my fix!!
Everything about Disney theme parks are so unique the decor, the atmosphere even the smell.
ikr?

Never been on Tom Sawyer's island and it's one of my favorite stories ..Tommy Kelly in '38 film ROCKS..!!
So looks like RUclips changed the way comments work just now. Can't reply to comments made before the changes, just wanted you all to know.
Please make the fort wilderness video!
Bastards!!!
BECOME A CAST MEMBER :P

I'm going to Disneyland in 2.5 months and both days I'm there will be weekdays! I'm australian so this is pretty big for me.
Thanks Jose! Glad you enjoyed it!!!
Your the best Disneyland you tuber ever!
There is so much more on that island than I remember. Haven't been on in years now I feel like I should change that. P.s. I thought that tattoo was of Edgar Allen Poe which I also accepted as cool.
I've been to Disneyland twice, and never went over here. We're going in December for 3 day with our 3 kiddos, and this is at the top of our list
I wouldn't have been able to go through the caves because its so narrow. Tried but cried. U r a brave one.
Darn stars wars!! I will forever miss tom sawyer island
at 2:22 when he touched the metal pinchers things and they moved, and he looked at the camera in amazement, i cracked up! X-D
It's so-so, the main thing I was grateful for was it allowed them to restore the caves & etc that had been closed and broken down for a while
One of the many times I was there, a tubby kid got wedged in a narrow crevasse in the cave.
I really like your videos. They are informative in such an entertaining and fun way... I can't stop watching them! It makes me want to go to Disneyland so much! I only made it there once but didn't get to squeeze in the island, I can't wait to go back and see it!!

How do you not work at disneyland as a tour guide!?!?!?
????
Thank you for catching that! I totally forgot!
I just looked this up when I found out my wife, who used to live near Disneyland, and went many times as a child, was unaware that you could go onto the island and play in the caves, fort, etc. I had no idea that the fort was closed. "Though I am not a cast member, I am a character." LOL.

I'm excited to make my first trip down to Disneyland in late January! :D
It'd be super cool if we happen to meet up! Keep up the awesomeness woot!
hey Justin!!! lovin the videos!!!! I'm glad you did Tom Sawyers Island!! My favorite fact about the island: The entire island is actually owned by the state of Missouri, which is why there is no merchandise there. They would all be under different state taxes! I'll be at Disneyland Nov 15th till the 17th, for my birthday. I'm very excited!
Finally going back to Disneyland this week! I've been a passholder all my life, but I go to college in Ohio and haven't been since August.
I wish you were near Disney World so you could do some videos there. Love your stuff!
10:43 one of my favorite things about pirates lair
My Dad and I, when I was 10 years old, were howling like wolves inside the cave. I'll never forget the 2 park employees with their flashlights out at the end of the cave, they legit thought there were wolves in there hahaha.
I love your videos. When i went to the park a few weeks ago i totally nerded out and thought of some of the stuff you talked about.
Hey, wait.... what happened to the Indian Village? And the mule ride? I loved those attractions and they didn't use my precious E tickets.
Great job Sir. Love the reaction at 2:24 !
DEFINITELY! I had a couple of shots of Splash Mountain I had to cut to get it under 15 minutes but I want to go back and ride that ride anyways (now that it's getting cold and the line's shorter) and film it.
Hope you enjoyed it!!
Since I was born my Great Grandpa would always remind me that the Fedora is king amongst hats, and every Gentleman should own one. "Gentleman" was always said with a wink. Haha
oh well things change. It looked nice and I like pirates. At least they didn't destroy the whole thing. Good job as always.
after all thous years of going, i have never bin to that island. i actualy thought it was abandoned at some point. now i need to go
thanks for always making me laugh and learn
I have never seen him in person, but I did notice a VERY recent 2013 RUclips upload of him, so he's still around. I think he comes out between Star Tours and the Plaza Inn restaurant from time to time, but only when it's very crowded or very dead
I missed the island on my visit. We didn't think it was worth the wait to go somewhere with no rides or gift shops. Now I see I missed out big time.
Aw darn! I would've loved to meet you! I enjoy your videos a lot and I love your bands music. I'm going to Disneyland for my 17th birthday. But I go a few times a year, so hopefully I'll have another chance to possibly run into you!
Yeah TSI there and The treehouse still have their original theming. Cant wait to check them out hopefully in 2014!
I love this video btw i love disneyland and i had no idea all this stuff exsisted!! The caves.. That bridge or any of that!!
Yeah! A new video! Must. Watch. Now.
At the beginning of 1:58 you can hear the Tarzan baby doing his little Tarzan call lol
7:03 this might be my favorite voice that you do. So funny!

LiveFastDiePoor love it so cool Briges make me sick
Hearing it in person, I think it's really him. I know it's really him for the ride soundtrack and those changes were done about the same time
Thanks man! Nothing wrong with a little crazy!
When my family went to Disney world once (when I was about 7) , we went to Tom Sawyer island with a family from my church. While we were in the cave the dad yelled and it scared me to death
I was wondering if you could do more secret videos like your test wall video I really enjoy them!
Lovin your vids, as usual! Me and the honey are going to be in the park on Saturday, will you be there? It'd be so cool to meet you :D
When will you do a video on Fort Wilderness?
I have never been to the island I can't wait until I go back to Disneyland so u can go :)
Hahaha You and me both. The great thing about Spreadshirt is I don't have to print them myself (like I used to for my band) the bad thing is that means I have to buy them also. Haha

Enjoy the sponge bob/ peewee Herman spontaneous animated voice ! 👍👍👍👏🏼😄
Haha - It's pretty short and I went across it really fast. I only get freaked out if it's really high up or if I have a chance to think about it. Plus to your right the ground is pretty much at the same level as the bridge so I just keep my eyes on that side and move at a brisk pace! Haha
Wow thanks ! :D Will do!
I DO remember seeing them for a bit, but I'm not sure if it was in DCA or at the Disney store. It might have been a limited time thing. I will definitely look next time I go! If I dont answer here again, remind me. :)
At least pirates on an island is still somewhat Tom Sawyer related as well
Really awesome video.
I went last year but I only got in the Boyhood Home and Museum. Didn't have time for the cave or anything else. It was the highlight and bummer of my life. Haha. Highlight cuz I always wanted to go, Bummer because I only had about 5 hours. I'm hoping to go back in July

You had an Indiana Jones vibe going on today......FAB!
Just came across you DL vids. Funny stuff!
Disney World still has the wooden fort! You should see it sometime.
Interesting, different than at WDW, where it doesn't have a pirate theme. Recently rediscovered it at WDW and realized I had gone on it as a kid
I fell in the Rivers of America once. It wasn't pleasant. But it was cooling. XP
GREAT VIDEO!!! I hope they where guided tours in that island you can do a lot of walking and not go anywhere or skip things...(I think you forgot to put the link of the video of the "smelletor"? 8:00)
Dude, your video's are dope! Good Job! "Thumbs Up"
I too sometimes have mixed feelings about changes at Disney. However, we have to roll with the changes and they are usually well done. Also, Twainiac, ever been to Hannibal? We're just up the river from there!
Thanks man!
LOL! I totally understand, well sending good thoughts your way for your "change to not be so strange" so a LiveFastDiePoor Disney World video can happen. :-)
Yeah, he can! He was just here with me a few weeks ago
Great video Justin!!! A+++++
Keep them coming :D
Thank you!!!!
