The 70´s SOVIET CHAIR restoration
- This chair was produced in Soviet Estonia around 1970´s by Koperaator and sold all over the USSR. This was golden time for Soviet Union, when people dreamed about reaching the communism paradise and this mentality also reflects in the items from that period, which had more courageous design than in previous decades.
In this video I will restore this soviet chair and I will also show how to conserve the chairs fabric.

Thank you for another video full of both entertainment AND instruction. I learned quite a lot from you and cannot seem to get enough.
Greetings from Germany.
I think he’s a spy! 😎
Who knew furniture restoration people are so cool? Boris needs to make more appearances in your videos!
And the decade award for the cleanest workshop goes to YOU... This shop is outrageous clean.
A true master craftsman!!
Ahti I like your sense of humor! I’m so glad someone realizes the value in saving these vintage and antique pieces of furniture. I miss the beautiful sofas of the 1950’s especially with pieces of wood trim!
Wow, that was fascinating to watch Boris do his stuff. Especially watching him sew. That hole in the material was noticeable but after he got done with his touch of sewing you’d never known it was there.
So happy he saved the paper under neath the chair. We must keep as much originality as possible. Thanks Boris for your great work. ♥️😊👍👍
Boris? In my country I am a pensioner. I like how in speaking or working with hands the sharing of life skill is confident. I wish I could have learned Russian back in late 1960's. Government stopped the High School classes because of Cold War. That was dumb. So I fixed things all my life. Call me a fixer. Anything, plane, machine, wood things. It pays enough and makes people feel good to see and receive the work and the thing that was fixed. Craftsmen... we are all needed. That's what best, to be older, needed and still doing. Awesome! Oh... great work, and cool chair! WE had almost identical back in school days.
Amazing repair skill on fabric! Bravo the chair, too🎉.
Your work is impeccable 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽❤️❤️❤️❤️

Very nice job repairing the seat fabric. 😊

Beautiful piece! You did such an amazing job. I love the simple lines of this chair. BTW I really enjoy the humor. Great video!
Love your work and sense of humor! Greetings from Chile.
Beautiful upholstery work; patching, darning!
Nice chair! The upholstery is only original once, so saving it was a nice touch.
That stitch job was incredible! 👍👍👍
VERY IMPRESSIVE RESTORATION!!!💜💜💜💜
I like your perfectionism und your passion for details
More ... MORE ... MORE!!! I love this Channel.
I have learned SO many things about chair and furniture restoration from AT Restoration. The long angle cut for fixing broken chair legs was a new idea for me. The Conservator's way of washing fragile upholstery is genius. I learned how to Re-Upholster furniture by watching my Mother as a very young child.
Thank you for all the advice!
Thanks for your love ;)
This is purr gold video, pure skills of restoration wow. Those stitches that you made it looked out of the world thank you for respecting the true art of restoration.
You are absolutely great!!!
Another beautiful chair rescued! I love seeing the transformation. And I was also very glad you were able so save the original fabric, I really liked the design of that!
Köszönjük!
I don't think I have ever seen Soviet Era furniture before. I loved seeing the design and your restoration. Thank you for sharing this.

Your work is amazing Boris !
Very interesting restoration, Love the Russian narrative and hat with the toothpick. I also appreciate the tip on how to clean the wool fabric.

When I was living in Estonia I saw loads of these in poor conditions, mostly due to being used in the garden, and the wood got wet around the feet or shower de-laminated the back board. In fact people have a habit of taking out indoor chairs to sit around the fire with friends and family and any old chairs you can find have some degree of water damage. I think this particular model is called Baleriin, pretty OK quality as a part of the series of mass-produced furniture from the era.
Good to know!
It might be a good idea to retrofit these chairs to be more moisture tolerant, as with a plastic dip or coating for the feet and good waterproofing on the back board, and a silicone treatment or solid vinyl for the cushion. Communist paradise forgot to plan in what real people wanted to do, lol. Capitalist paradise gave us cast resin outdoor chairs, or throw away easily rusting patio chairs. Neither one did it particularly well.
Conrad Boris! The like button has been pressed according to your order!
Beautiful!
Boris looks a lot like your new assistant (your brother from another mother) in another video of yours.
I think they must be related.
Great project ! Amazed at your fabric mending abilities!
Excellent work 👍👍👍 . Thanks for sharing
Love seeing Boris, one cool fellow. Great restoration of chair and I like the sharing of the tips for cleaning the seat cover for the chair. Thanks for sharing, many tips will be useful. Until next time, regards from Maryland USA
Love the hat! That was an easy fix for you but it looked great when you finished!😊❤
So glad you were able to save the fabric. It was perfect for that chair. The washing technique was good to learn.
I love the economy of construction of this chair it’s simply beautiful.
Thank you for also sharing the technique of how to clean the old fabrics! Maybe Boris can use this seat to rest hit tired knees after a long day of helping you in your shop 😆
Splendid - thank you for sharing your talent! ✌🏻🎨☕️
Very cool. Like the comedy skits.
Once again, I'm gratified that you use as much of the original materials as possible; you even saved the labels! And when you were removing the fabric, I thought, 'That's not so bad, really.' So I was glad you restored that. Eventually it will need to be replaced, of course.
I'm envious of these European and Soviet pieces you find. I'm in the US and so much old stuff is just gone, or in a different style.
impressive mending work!

I like it!
OK, pressing the like button.
Omg, the seat cover is exactly the same material my grandma had on her armchair still until recently. I used to play on the armchair so much as a kid it brought back such nostalgia...
I always watch your videos with great pleasure. Excellent restorations.
Marvellous result with the fabric and using all its original components. 👍
Loved the video and how you lovingly restore your pieces. Loved seeing you work with a different medium-great job saving the fabric! Boris is very cool.
You do such great work restoring old furniture have a great day
Too cool
I loved how you saved the original fabric.
I LOVE IT!!!!❤
I always enjoy watching the precision you use to restore these pieces of furniture. Wool is a great fabric but I could see from the close ups that a lot of Soviet bottoms had sat on that seat over the years, wearing the material away; particularly near the edge! A great restoration nonetheless!
Beautiful in its simplicity.
Good Job bro
Harasho! Spasiba, dude.
this is actually quite a nice design for a chair from the soviet union during the 70s
Very cool chair! I really like the lines. I thought it was a folding chair at first.
