    Experiencing the power and noise of a fighter jet flying at low altitude in person is an awe inspiring experience. There really isnt anything like it.

      @@billprice1483 Agreed. However, I do miss the F-14 Tomcat's raw power. The F-14 and the B1-B are the best high speed passes that I've experienced way back at the March AFB Air Shows. Especially the B1-B, as it approached they recommended that we close our ears because of how loud it was. It literally shook the ground as it passed by.

My buddy dove behind me and my arms were moving uncontrollably on the stearing wheel...like rubber bands in the wind.

    Best high speed pass i saw, was a B1-B, over Dyess AFB, TX. It was actually the practice runs, on day before. I was in the Air Force, as C-130 maintenance. And i had weekend duty that weekend, so some of us actually went out to one of the C-130's, on the flight line, got up on top on the wings, and watch it do its thing for a about 25 mins. They went just a tad faster for the practice runs, since there were no civilians around for liability. It went by faster than this F-18 did. And the B-1 is a HUGE aircraft. To see it moving so fast was surreal.... wings swept.... so cool.

It scared the hell out of me, I didn't know whether to stand and watch or dive for cover, but anyway as it got up close it did a sharp turn between two peaks and flew full throttle up and into the clouds, it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen, the whole thing probably lasted no more than maybe 10-15 seconds, but boy was It loud. There must be a military base within the area.

    Quick question. At 41,000 lbs of thrust, burning 60,000 lbs of fuel per hour, just how much fuel can one of these carry?

    • @wheel1775
      @wheel1775 2 года назад +14

      That’s at afterburner speeds. Normal cruising speed doesn’t burn anywhere near that much.

    • @drott150
      @drott150 2 года назад +5

      With aux tanks and max internal fuel about 27,000 lbs. So a flight of less than half an hour is possible in continuous AB.

    • @thearcadehackerofficial
      @thearcadehackerofficial 2 года назад +2

      Afterburner is only used for a very short period of time. Typically for quick take offs from air craft carriers or different maneuvers. Double combustion ignition uses so much fuel.

    I loved going to air shows with my husband and two boys. We have a friend with a beach house in Fort Morgan Alabama. We are unable to go there anymore due to health reasons. But when we used to go in the 80’s and 90’s there were some days when the Blue Angels would practice along the beach. We could hear them coming and run out to the beach. They would tip their wings at us and on occasion put the smoke on. There were times when we were the only people on the beach. It was an awesome experience. I would get chills watching them. And the air shows. The sounds and realizing how powerful those aircraft is just amazing. I loved it.
    Actually got to see the Space Shuttle launch quite a few times and other rockets take off. The feeling in your chest is out of this world. I actually cried after I saw my first Shuttle launch.
    Wish they never stopped that program. They could have built a couple more. They were work horses.
    Whoops got off subject. My apologies.
    Air shows are lots of fun that’s for sure.

    So fun fact: During the 'high speed pass' they are booking it yes - but are not close to Mach 1.0 ( 750 mph based upon how high you are from sea level). They are actually booking closer 500 mph or closer to .8 on the Mach meter. Commercial Jets tend to fly around 300-400 mph. If you look up Navy high speed passes, you can get a better sense (as well as an actual 'Mach Pass') of the speed once an aircraft actually is on the doorstep of breaking the sound barrier.
    Don't get me wrong, he's hauling the mail...but that speed vs Mach .95+...is a big difference. Still awesome to see tho.
