I love his playing! I wasn't fortunate enough to see the band with him the only time they played in my country, but I was fortunate to see the band anyway. RIP Chris :(
+Pedro Pimentel '96 was the year the nineties went to shit though. The Seattle scene was all but dead, fashion started going all-out "retro", Beavis and Butt-Head were in their penultimate season, the Simpsons' last GOOD season was on the air and movies started being full of shitty CGI. And worst of all: Post-Grunge was about to become a thing. Okay, that actually makes '97 the year the 90s REALLY went to shit. Things started to go awry in '96 nevertheless. Only good thing to come out of the late nineties was Radiohead and their album "OK Computer" (which however only means that things went down the drain a tad later in Britain).
+NIMRODakaNIMROD Opinions man opinions. Late 90s we got Cornell's solo album, Green Day's "Warning", System Of A Down's self titled album, lot's a of good stuff.
"Spoonman" refers to a street artist who used to make a show with spoons at the time Soundgarden recorded this song: Artis The Spoonman. They sort of dedicated the song to him, but it can be meant to refer to all street artist in general. I did a full cover myself, with guitars, bass and... spoons, I think it sounds ok. It is on my channel, every visit is welcome, thanks!
goddamn, what a voice!!! chris can sure fuckin sing one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) bands of the 90s, alternative or otherwise. incredibly creative and great musicians.
First time I heard soundgarden I was probably 5. Now I am 22 and it is still the best band I have ever heard and song spoonman kicks ass a lot of energy in it so best wishes guys from Slovakia hope you come
That's what I just started doing and i've improved alot more. I have a more higher voice I noticed than Low. Listening to the older bands like Led Zeppelin,Bostin,Queen have really helped me notice how to sing more high. Thanks for the Advice!!! I really Appreciate it.
Soundgarden is, and will be my greatest life influence forever. But it's 4 of them combined, not just Chris' godlike voice. Without Kim, Ben & Matt, it would have been only 1/4 awesome. Chris is now trying to make something original of himself, but it's just impossible without the rest of Soundgarden. He so didn't know what to do, so he ended up with timbaland, I mean come on!!! But by god he remains best singer!
most people think this song is about a drug addict, but its not. its about chris knowing this old man on the sidewalk who used to drum with spoons and he made friends with him and came up with that song!
we went to the BING CROSBY ARENA IN DEL MAR / SAN DIEGO C.A. - (1996 WAS IT THAT LONG AGO F ) 2-3 THOUSAND AT BEST IN A WAREHOUSE TYPE GENERAL ADMISSION . KORN WAS OPENING ( NOT GOING TO GO THERE ) ..ROCK AND ROLL THROUGH AND THROUGH .. R.I.P. CHRIS ..YOU HIT US ALL .. WE HOPE YOU FOUND THE PEACE YOU SO DESPERATELY WERE LOOKING FOR .. WITH ALL RESPECT ROCK THEM ALL FOR ETERNITY
Hey joseph allen from 5 years ago, i was looking at my super old youtube inbox and saw our comment thread here. And after playing rockband i picked up a guitar and started playing. Just an FYI. It's cool I stumbled on these messages.
I know that's the technique because I use it myself. He has a big range. Instead of just singing those notes clean in head voice he belts them instead. There's a distinctive difference between belted falsetto and belted head voice. For example Ian Gillian of Deep Purple primarily used belted falsetto. Chris Cornell can hit the same notes but the difference is that he puts out more intensity and power by hitting them in head voice.
Thanks,I really am trying to improve my voice in more of a yelling kind of sence. I notice that I can sing songs like Man in the Box easily but I can't seem to find out how to get a more high pitch scream. But I'm starting to get everything and i'm improving. Thanks man,I really appreciate it.
People say they hate guitar hero.. And there all mad and say that they knew those songs before the game ever came out, and you liked them first and so forth.. If thats the case why are you so mad.. the game is bringing back the music you enjoy.. shouldn't you be happy??
we agree with you. Matt Cameron is one of the best drummer. His drumming style is unique, very much odd but can bring you the excitement of playing drums.
@MegaFenderstrat no, it's about an artist called Artis the Spoonman, from Seattle (the city Soundgarden is from), Cornell himself said that. Wikipedia it
Thats what you call FUCKING ROCK!! soundgarden is rulz.. kim thaiyl is a beast! matt cameron smashing n banging those drum! ben shepperd all laid back all calm playing then you have chris cornell what a great voice!
It's about Artis the Street performer, and how people degrade him on look down on him because of the way he dreeses, the fact that they assume he's homeless etc.
He blends his head voice into his falsetto very well while keeping a slightly closed throat to add a raspy quality and mask any change in register.
Yes
Matt's groove is incredible
I love his playing! I wasn't fortunate enough to see the band with him the only time they played in my country, but I was fortunate to see the band anyway. RIP Chris :(
Yes I agree and awesome group
I wish i could go back in the 90's

Why do i see people putting down Cornell's live voice so much on videos? He has an amazing voice! I mean really, am i missing something?
I'd love to see these guys live. But that won't ever happen :(
It's about Artis the Street performer, and how people degrade him on look down on him because of the way he dreeses, the fact that they assume he's homeless etc.
