I really enjoy working on these small engines after 60 years of big diesel engines 😊😊😊

Thank you for this instruction. This morning I replaced the carburetor. The tiller hadn't been used for several years because it wouldn't run properly. I initially changed the air filter breaking the cover trying to get it off. I checked the fuel tank and found 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch hard something in it. I had to change the fuel lines and broke the tank trying to do it. Anyway, now a new tank, new lines and carburetor. It started right up with the original spark plug in it. Again thank you because it guided me with what I needed to do.

Thanks for the video. I bought this model, non-running Mantis on Craigslist. I followed along with you on the vid, replaced the carb and fuel lines and it started right up!

Thank You Sir, great help and my issue is the Purge Bulb, it is cracked so will replace the whole carb and be done with it. Cost was ~ $35 Canadian......would have cost me about that just for the Bulb and another $60 to have it replaced by a S.E.R. shop!

The fuel line was kink and for sure will cause issues later on or won't even start.

Would have been 100% better if you had briefly gone over the correct high and low idle settings, since those replacement carbs rarely arrive properly set.

What brand of carburetor did you use? Thank you! Great video

I just watched your video and it was great, most people will try to use the old gas lines, and that can be big trouble because they have no idea how old they are, I'm 72 years old and as my mom always said "they will scream at a Gnat and swallow a Camel!
You did it right and she started on the third or fourth pull, no cracked gas lines or going and finding a new primer bulb.
Maybe you can help me, I have a mantis, 1979 year, it is a Echo engine, with the small flywheel and i can't find a coil for it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Winston

    - I noticed that the old gasket coming off the intake had a 4 hole pattern and, the new replacement gasket only had one hole.. why the difference or, does it not even matter? Also, is there supposed to be a gasket installed on the back of the air filter plate too?

hi it does not matter if it is a 1 2 or 4 hole gasket just as long as the hole lines up thats vacume to run fuelpump on carb..if hole does not line up it wont run.. and yes you need a gasket on base...

@@lmsmallenginerepair4471 - Yes! Thanks for your informative reply. I will make sure that the gasket hole is in line with the intake port.... I hope it'll work for me now...

There's a slightly larger hole on the one side of the carb. So, the two gaskets that come with the kit reflect that. The one gasket only has one hole and only fits on the correct side without covering the one hole.

I just replaced my carburetor just like you did. I took it a step further and took the spacer off between the carb and the block. Have a somewhat mangled gasket between the block and spacer. Could that be causing me problems with intermittent running and dying? Thank you.

I had the primer bulb and supply hoses mixed up. Changed them around and it is working. Thanks for your excellent input.
