Great video as always. As a 4 stripe Blue belt, ive always had a fascinated outlook on leg locks, but never have really been able to train them due to gym restrictions. I would love a video on how you like to enter such attacks
I started out doing bodybuilding workouts prior to bjj. Tht previous bodybuilding knowledge deff helps in terms of understanding weak and strong points
We learn it all at our gym right off the bat, I think everyone just can pretty much get position live and not actually tap our partners but know it was there
started BJJ 10 days ago and my very first submission was a leg lock I constantly roll with guys 15-30kg heavier than me so I understood very quickly that legs and back represent 95% of my options to win as you said, you need to be careful but leglocks feel insidious especially against beginners so definietly worth training
What is your real opinion on leg locks for the street self defense against bigger attackers? Too risky? There is one video on RUclips where two pick up basketball players got into a fight and one try to do a leg lock on the court. It was sloppy and got broken up…
I think it depends. Personally, I’d want to sweep the guy first so he can’t stand over me and deliver strikes. If I can get my opponent down on the ground, then secure a leg lock…I’m winning that fight. We can use the UFC for example. I can’t remember a time where a leg lock worked out when the person who was stuck in it was still standing and throwing strikes. But when they’re on the ground stuck in the leg lock, it’s usually (not always) game over. So long answer short, I think they can work in the street but you’d need to sweep first.
Good ol Dean lister
