Remember a few years ago when Facebook encouraged its biggest media content clients to pivot to video? Facebook contacted several companies that had articles and/or other content that was among the most widely shared on Facebook. Facebook presented these companies with data showing that video had a far higher engagement than text, that 60% of people sit and watch any video that shows up on their newsfeed, telling these companies that while it will be more time consuming to produce and cost more money to make video content, they'll actually _make more money_ because engagement is so much higher on videos which means not only do more people see them, but their base pay rate for advertising is much higher on videos and Facebook told these companies that if they made the switch to video content immediately Facebook would give them a special, higher rate split for a year (90/10 to you, instead of Facebook usual which is between 60/40 and 80/20 to you), the best rate they've ever offered on advertising. Well. One of the companies Facebook targeted with this offer was Cracked.com whose articles were *by far* the most shared content in the 18-35, college educated Male category, a really _really_ popular category with advertisers. His main channel draw of game reviews also suffered for a long time, some might say they still suffer. I am not saying people can't change their content, but you have to be able to accept the obvious back lash and viewer dissatisfaction if you do so. Angry Joe is pretty close to being like MTV, a video game channel that doesn't review video games.
Chance Kahle Oh, I had no idea. Don’t really follow that kind of stuff. Thanks for the context. So I guess the siren was put in in post then. Well done in that case, as it didn’t sound edited in at all to me, and Jim looked like his brain was scrambling for a second on whether to just reshoot the whole thing or go with it. Heck, for all we know the siren was real, but when forced to improvise he was quick witted enough to come up with something that actually made sense with the rest of the segment. But yeah, I can totally see it all being planned now.
I would say, "only in gaming can the consumer being screwed over, taken advantage of, manipulated and squeezed dry constitute faux controversy", but that isn't true. It is still controversial, and worth discussing, unless one wants to let publishers, devs, and shareholders be as greedy as they want. Or, of course, one has some incentive not to rock the boat too hard. People have their jobs, and sometimes that means not being allowed to call out BS. But to actively defend it, you better be getting paid for that at least.
Bootlicking is generally required at front facing jobs, but that isn't just the "way it is" there is coercive pressures with the fundamentals with which out society functions, and it's messed up, and helps produce this highly commercialized internet, and media more generally, which creates hype, click bait, and low substance content wich can be pumped out to placate the all mighty algorithm which is intern tweaked and controlled by unaccountable mega corps (Google, and Apple being key examples) which get major role is deciding what is worthy content.

@@Matazuma dude, don't tell him! That's the best twist of series.
SPOILER:
Ed Stark returning from the dead as a White Walker? I could see it!
For the record, I haven't watched past Season 3. Fuck you for killing them off!
The part where you were talk about Television channels applies to G4/Tech TV so hard.
Also, there was one point where even the Cartoon Network in 2009 was trying to go down a very similar path but it didn't pan out.
Right you are Jim old boy.
Love from Finland. 2019
Holy shit, did we just hear Justin? =p
I miss the old History Channel so much. 70% of its content was war documentaries and I'd just let it run in the background all day. Now though....sigh, it just makes me sad.
Don't you want to learn the history of the ancient ones though? (I'm joking if it wasn't obvious.)
@@SixDeadMice Don't get me wrong, ancient history is fascinating (I'm a sucker for a good documentary on the Roman Empire), but HC just isn't really treating it with a lot of respect anymore.
"The subject of this topic?" Well at least you're self-aware about it, haha
Well that's enough from me. I've got to get back to JEWELS that looks like an apple on prom night.
I should mention I love your positive stuff too, but sometimes miss it when there isn't a little Jim in the corner or big yellow text.
When I'm looking through my sub box my reptile brain tends to focus on recognizable images like the Jimquisition banner.
The interesting thing is that it's not just game journalists it's everyone. Content creators dropping 30 minute videos rewriting every episode
Yeah I remember when Angry Joe started to do reveiws about GoT. I mean wow started as a video games creator... moved to Movie reviews and Trailer Reactions. Now TV show comments? Say it ain't so Joe, say it ain't so!
@@JustaGuy_Gaming kinda like how jim went from game reviews, to boglins and pogs, to wrestling, etc.
i mean, if you create one type of content, you should not be allowed to create other content! /s
@@thomasjenkins7506 Eh I think it's more of how I and others don't think Joe's other content is all that good and juts a lazy cash grab for the easiest click bait possible. All the while he was putting forward crowd funding campaigns for new equipment and such at the time.
@@thomasjenkins7506 Joe's non-game reviews would be fine if he wasn't a horrible reviewer.
@@Peasham that's how i feel every time jim opens his mouth about capitalism. it'd be fine if he had a single clue what he was talking about.
That ad-lib when the police sirens sounded 👌
I'm pretty sure that was part of the script, as he was mocking Nigel Farage hiding on his bus from protesters armed with milkshakes.
@@CrossfacePanda He says in a blooper at the end of the video that the siren was a lucky coincidence.
The real Game Journalism was all the perfect timings we encountered along the way
11:34 DANG! Classic RUclips!! I want that as a theme option.
Thank you for the little bit at the end of the episode! For what it's worth I appreciate the positive videos you make too.
the perseverance and determinism of this chubby guy fills me with joy
Determinism does not mean what you think it does mate.
@@Theo_Caro Maybe he meant that because we thank god for Jim. All Jim's actions are controlled by god. :P
I've been drinking that Link Juice for years **tap** cheers!
I forgot today was Monday. Thank god for Jim!
That feel when you measure week long cycles through Jimquisition uploads.
Thanks for remind me today is monday fuckwit
2:12 i find this statement quite funny considering that's exactly when most of these sites do each week.
You should make an infinity gauntlet with all the JeWeLs you've got
The Milkshake bit was glorious
i was howling, that was so unexpected xD
Milkshake Gang would agree. Every time it happens to them it's a sign that the opponent has lost.
Shoot the scum bag who threw it.
Nimicry Just goes to illustrate that the British public were more concerned with GOT ending than Brexit.
@@Infernal460 Milkshakes are deadly, Nigel Farage almost died from the wounds
I would pay good money for a whole series about Queen-Headed Gurgle Man
Is it bad that I instantly recognized the Voldemort laugh in the intro?
"Harry Potter...... is dead!"
I don't even play video games anymore but still subscribe to you because of videos like this. Good content is good content
To be fair, I have been wanting to see Jim play with his jewels on camera.
jim sterling, one half art house production, the other half journalism
Jim getting milkshake thrown at him? Did someone mistake you for Nigel Farage?
Maybe they saw his attire and thought he was the dictator from V For Vendetta. Hell, his show is even called The _Jimquisition_
I actually enjoy Boglinwatch. Make more Boglinwatch, please.
Gold Glove, covered in jewels.
Does Killer Mike know you're stealing their guff?
👉🤛🏿 Run 'Em
Jim's milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,
And they're like,
Its better than yours,
Damn right its better than yours,
He can teach you,
But He'd have to charge...
*_Throws money_*
Jewels*
Good on you for using the Young Ones.
WHOA WAIT WAS THAT A CLIP FROM MY FAVOURITE EPISODE OF THE YOUNG ONES??
YES WE'VE GOT A VIDEO!
I loved how Tyrian shrunk down and climb up Daenyris butt and expanded--and then shot JR.
Oh right... spoilers for Lost: End Game.
>sees jewels in the intro
Oh no, I can already feel Jim's feet hurting.
Jim owns all the infinity stones and this is how he chooses to use them...
Thanos would be proud
one of these days, jim will pick up those jewels.
Till then, this is gonna be our intro forever and i am fine with it :D
just buys more jewels off amazon each take. Floor is covered in them at this point.
Didn't MTV have a Game of Thrones show?
EDIT: YUP!
The Shannara Chronicles!
Lol
I tried to give that one a chance but it was really hurt by the fact that almost every character under 30 was cast with a dead eyed model that was clearly chosen because they were pretty instead of their talent.
So it left the bulk of the show hanging on underused John Rhys Davies and Manu Bennett.
That voldemordt laugh at the beginning was almost one to one out of the movie xD And yep, that Siren was pretty much perfectly timed xD Watch out Jim. They are onto ya!
Okay, I have to give props to that visual pun for when you said "nakedly transparent". That was brilliant.
Video starts...
Me: When did Jim learn to Hulk-out?
He listened to his mom -- she knows best
