Common Matt, Pjax didn't anounced that hegot health problems in April of 2011 and won't be back. It was Jim Buzz told the Lakers team that no matter what the outcome of the playoffs Pjax will not return. Grrat way to deflate a team mentally. In 2012 of November same person chose D ant over Phil. Thats because Jim took over when Dr. BUSS DIEd. That lead to Kobe's dragging the Lakers to.the playoffs and destroyed his body in the process. Pjax said in his 2011 exit interview, this is tbe first time thay I coached a team who don't know how to adjust at all.
Gasol lost his fire coz his GF cheated on him. Odom was gassed out. That's why the Lakers decided to trade them for CP3. Would they have won with CP3? not sure. They basically lose most of their length . Bynum was an all-star caliber center but he injury prone .
They definitely needed more pieces but a team with a prime CP and Kobe is bound to make noise, and people would’ve been more inclined to play with the lakers. When people saw that the lakers weren’t winning and Kobe was getting old they felt they didn’t want to deal with an aging cranky Kobe and no one wanted to come to LA. But if we had CP the story might’ve been different.
@@brandonsantiago2298 Kobe was not in his prime and was already declining athletically and especially defensively. Trading your big man duo of Gasol and Odom is a massive blow. Miami, OKC, San Antonio all improved post-2011 and I don't see how LA beats any of those teams. Kobe fans are irrational and argue on emotion, not logic. (if you're only implying CP was in his prime, my bad. I stand by my point)
@@rotanortan yeah I don’t think you read my comment properly. Kobe nor Gasol were no longer in their prime but Kobe could still ball. Kobe was still averaging the same numbers of 27 ppg, but you look at Gasols numbers and his went down every playoff. Bynum was injury prone and Odom after winning those chips got complacent and no longer had the drive to keep working on his game and body, he said so himself hence he literally retired a couple of years later. Artest was old and slow as well and no longer in his prime. The lakers definitely needed to trade for better pieces around Kobe in order to contend. And like you said the Heat, the Spurs and a raising OKC were all better than the lakers. But if you simply had CP3 along side Kobe just with them two they could’ve gotten more out of the players around them. Whether people want to admit it or not CP has always made his teams better, he made the clippers better, he made Houston better, he helped a bunch of rookies in OkC to make the playoffs and he made the Suns better. CP is not really a closer, but you’d have Kobe for that. Kobe with CP would’ve been a great duo, and if they had gotten Howard (although after that back surgery he was never the same) they would’ve had a really good big 3. Kobe would’ve never busted his Achilles and what we’re seeing of Lebron playing great in his 19th, 20th, 21th season we would’ve seen Kobe do it first and would’ve had at least a contending competive team instead of being at the bottom of the barrel in his last 3 seasons. Right now Lebron has benefited a lot of the play in tournament. Cause if it weren’t for that he wouldn’t have made the playoffs last year nor 2021 nor this year either. So Lebrons final years have not been pretty either, and I think we can all agree he has had a better team than what Kobe had from 2013-2016
The plan was to get Dwight too, which they eventually did, unfortunately the whole CP3 veto thing really fucked the Lakers up big time and for a long time
@@brandonsantiago2298 they could've been competitive but with Bynum/Kobe/CP3 filling out 95% of their salary, the rest of the team would be paid in luxury tax and a lot of minimum guys. Getting CP3 solves one issue but creates another It would've been great to see Kobe remain on good teams till season 20 though. He'd have to clearly be the second best on a team like LeBron right now. Golden State was right around the corner. I don't think he would've got #6 but who knows what happens with roster construction Also, Kobe's ludicrous contract in his final years kept that team from being able to be viable or competitive. A non-factor was eating up their salary on the bench and a bunch of guys on rookie contracts and vet minimums were dragged by the media for trying to do their best with what they had. They had to accept mediocrity with an expiring Bryant contract
CP and Kobe aren’t winning a ring; and the triangle offense was done, had been surpassed stradegy wise; Kobe wanted more rings he shouldn’t have trashed the triangle in 2003;
Remember they vetoed that trade because owners complained it was unfair for Kobe to pair with CP3 and possibly Dwight. But lebron can play with anyone. They didn’t want Kobe throwing a wrench into their new cash cow lebron and stop him from winning those two pathetic ones he got in Miami
Nah the reason why some of the owners was complaining was they wanted the Lakers to stay in luxury tax lane that trade would had gotten the Lakers out of the luxury tax lane

cp3 for pau would not have been good....why would they consider it at the time?
You must be under 30 lol
Old injured CP3 had the Durant Steph Warriors beat with Harden doing little. Prime CP3 with Pre-achilles Kobe and all the support players that would have come? That's at least two chips. CP3 is a 1 level player like Kobe.
Pau was a 2 at his best and 3 by that time. Pau at that time did nothing special with the Bulls or Spurs. I loved Pau as a Laker but he only shined that bright because of Kobe.
@drec00k206 no I'm older and I remember, pau won 2 chips with kobe already while cp3 is injury prone and not proven in the playoffs
@@yeon723Pau mentally checked out. He never recaptured his 2008-2010 form for the Lakers after he discovered that his whore of a partner cheated on him and that the Lakers basically traded him for Chris Paul managed to make things worse.
They hired Mike Dantoni instead of Phil not Mike Brown
They actually did hire Mike Brown first. They hired D’Antoni after they fired Mike in the beginning of the 2012-13 season
@@gregorydunston2952 yea i know that
Neet matt on gils arena
Cp wasn't getting traded for pau tho
The biggest WHAT IF : KBCP3!
Wtf is it about Phil and these ‘organizations’ right before the 3rd?
Matt's ability to articulate a story descriptively and chronologically is a solid PSR for smoking herb lolol
Pau wasn’t involved in the Cp trade
Yes he was, 3 way trade had him going to Houston
The trade is Lakers: CP3, Rockets: Pau, David West, 2 first rounds, and Hornets: Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Lamar Odom
Bottom line David Stern didn't want the Lakers or Kobe to be in the Goat conversation...Lakers are still considered the Greatest Sports Franchise and Doc Buss is the Grratest Sports Owner
No fan knew this man as L.O. 😂
Damn David Stern...he knew what he was doing and I still dont respect it
You got Gasol that was a bank robbery.
Odom is kinda like Kukoć
Andrew Bynum brutal shot to Mavs player
Matt Barnes personality seems to me would be at odds with Phil Jackson.
Chasing an opponent in to the locker room to fight would not be approved by Phil Jackson.
CP3 and later Dwight added to the Lakers would have given Kobe an easy 2-3 more titles. The league was jealous
Your insane if you believe that nonsense
@@melvynsngltn27 why? Who is beating CP3, Kobe, and Dwight? That one trade changes everything, basically gives Kobe a longer runway for success.
@CarCrazy24 your joking right. Losing Gasol and Odom would be huge Dwight got hurt in 2012 and he would definitely get hurt again. With no other front court player and new coach and teammates that team would flop
Jackson is still the GOAT coach.
So many what ifs: what if Phil coached that Dwight Kobe team. Could he have Jedi mind tricked them into figuring it out? And then like Prime Chris Paul and 85% of prime Kobe could have been ungodly. Kobe as a mid range run off picks catch and shooter would have been fucked. Also a completely unrelated, but what if they retained Trevor Ariza. He was so good for them. Would have been cool to see how his career is different. Also healthy Bynum would have been nice
Cp3 on LAL definitely would not have won. The chip is his kryptonite.
The league NEEDED A Kd veto to warriors
Only lebum can recruit 10 super stars, God forbid cp3 came for pau lmao
The Lakers felt like somewhat of a soap opera in the final year of the Phil Jackson era.
This dude doesn’t age
Glossed over trading "Fish". Lol. There's alot more to that story for those two. 😂
The Lakers & NBA ruined Kobe’s last years
who was on craaaack
Matt Barnes….not that good….lakers didn’t have a good supporting cast…Barnes no defense…
tall lengthy and can do it all?🤣 no way you said that with no pause
Kobe had to overcome so much adversity to get to his 5.
Not saying Gasol and Odom weren't declining but you still need a presence on the interior. Getting CP3 solves one issue but creates another
It would've been great to see Kobe remain on good teams till season 20 though. He'd have to clearly be the second best on a team like LeBron right now.
Golden State was right around the corner. I don't think he would've got #6 but who knows what happens with roster construction
Also, Kobe's ludicrous contract in his final years kept that team from being able to be viable or competitive. A non-factor was eating up their salary on the bench and a bunch of guys on rookie contracts and vet minimums were dragged by the media for trying to do their best with what they had. They had to accept mediocrity with an expiring Bryant contract
Reggie?!??
Didnt Kobe only have 4 rings towards the end of PJackson's era?
I always described LO as a very poor man's LBJ.
CP and Kobe aren’t winning a ring; and the triangle offense was done, had been surpassed stradegy wise; Kobe wanted more rings he shouldn’t have trashed the triangle in 2003;
That’s why queen James goat comments drive me nuts.. he not only behind Mike he behind Kobe too😂. Rip Kobe an everyone on that chopper🙏🙏
Is he describing Lamar Odom from clippers days because we didn’t get the Lamar he talking about on a consistent basis at all on the Lakers.
I remember game 4 vs mavericks getting blown out and my dumbass still having hope. I wanted Kobe to win that chip so bad
Jordan got six finals mvps
Oh, brother! Matt Barnes sucks.
Another reason for me to not like LeFraud James
Nah the reason why some of the owners was complaining was they wanted the Lakers to stay in luxury tax lane that trade would had gotten the Lakers out of the luxury tax lane
If that was the case the league would’ve never allowed KD to join the Warriors lol think before you type idiot
Barnes was and is trash always.
Kobe has 5 rings just two finals MVPS 😂
Somebody please tell PG to stop touching the mic. Annoying and totally unnecesary.
Lamar Odom was a good basketball player and athlete
Playoff P!! 😂😂😂
