I played the original Dune real time strategy. I'm very interested to see how this one turns out
I'm enjoying this game. I've done the victory condition for Atreides and Harkonnen. I did have a failed Harkonnen run where I just got over run by raiders and other factions. Had to abandon that game. There's a Landsraad condition where you rule Dune for 60 days as governor (certain conditions apply), then you win. I did this with Atreides and really by accident. I think it was too easy to achieve because I wasn't even building towards that. Just noticed it is a victory condition. Also, if you're having trouble, you can change the skill level of the AI and other settings before starting the game. It's a little hidden menu before you start, but it's there.
I started this game, didn't know anything about it, was losing badly from the beginning, but gained 25k hegemony first somehow :) I enjoyed it very much, but some mechanics need some tweaking. Also one fact about what you said about authority - throughout the game I didn't struggle with authority deficit at all, I guess I was advancing very slowly and had arakis agent assigned all the time. (also probably because every nation attacked me, so this kept my authority high)

My agents are kinda sus: they don't produce any intel. They produce AMD. ;)
