- Russia and Iran, as two BRICS members, have finalized the integration of their national payment systems, a significant step toward enhancing their economic cooperation and circumventing U.S. sanctions. The heads of the central banks from both nations have been working closely to link Iran's SEPAM system with Russia's System for Transfer of Financial Messages (SPFS).
This integration will allow the two countries to conduct trade and financial transactions using their national currencies, the ruble and rial, reducing their reliance on the U.S. dollar and the Western-dominated SWIFT system. The new system will enable Iranian and Russian banks to issue and accept each other's bank cards, facilitating smoother transactions for businesses and individuals in both countries.
This move is seen as a strategic effort by both nations to mitigate the impact of international sanctions and strengthen their economic ties. Russia, heavily sanctioned due to its invasion of Ukraine, and Iran, facing long-standing sanctions related to its nuclear program and other issues, are increasingly collaborating to build financial infrastructure independent of Western influence.
The first trade transactions using this new system have already taken place, and both countries are optimistic about the potential to significantly increase their annual bilateral trade, aiming to double it from $4 billion to $8 billion. This integration is part of a broader effort to create a more resilient and self-sufficient economic partnership between Russia and Iran, further solidifying their alliance against Western economic pressures.

I always had a theory it should be housed in the poorest country in the world and rotated every 10 years. Just think about how expensive the whole chabang is JUST by being in NY,NY. On rotation the "buildings" become an economic centre-free zone.
Great idea!! However the UN is just to broken to continue. Replace it with something more equitable. United Earth Government (UEG). Vastly better funded and and no veto, just a simple majority for a elected governing council. There would be an elected general assembly that would have to give 2/3 approval by a decree passed down by governing council. Bills could be introduced by General assembly. The Governing council seats would be filled by allocating a fixed amount of elected officials from different areas of the earth. That way you would not have any one country like China or the US dominating the governing council. To be a member you have to give a certain percentage of your GDP. All members would be elected not appointed. Their responsibilities would be environment, trade disputes, food production, famine control, regulating fishing, conflict disputes, population control, space research and development. There would be s mandatory requirement for countries to allocate a % of their military, or even better a completely separate force. I had given this a lot of though. We would probably need something like this eventually anyway or we would not survive as a species.
As an Iranian, I'm extremely excited hearing about BRICS payment system. This is the beginning of the end for the dollar 💰 & SWIFT system.

The natural progression of things is exactly going as planned. First, the mBridge project from BRICS experiments with a multiple-central bank digital currency (multi-CBDC) common platform for wholesale cross-border payments and it totally excludes settlements in the U.S. dollars.
Next came the BRICS Commodities Exchange where BRICS members can trade grains and agricultural produce and food with each other either through the nBridge payments or through the exchanges of products via barter trade.
Then again, a new BRICS Raw Material Exchange will be set up where essential oils and minerals can be bought and sold within BRICS members without the knowledge of whoever controls the U.S.-led SWIFT transaction system. This will be a big boon to resources-rich countries in Latin America and Africa so all of them can escape the looting from their former colonial masters until this very day.
As expected, the G7 will forever lose the rights to issue economic policies that only benefit themselves as more and more countries realize they now have the tools to fight back.
