Turkey is not a full member of the European Union (EU) for several reasons, despite having been a candidate for membership since 1999. Some of the main reasons include:
Human Rights and Democratic Concerns: The EU has raised concerns about Turkey's human rights record, freedom of expression, press freedom, and the independence of its judiciary. Periods of political instability and actions perceived as authoritarian under President Erdoğan have deepened these concerns.
Cultural and Political Differences: Some EU member states have expressed hesitation about Turkey joining the EU due to cultural and political differences. Turkey’s predominantly Muslim population, its size, and geographic location (straddling Europe and Asia) make some EU countries wary of how it would affect the union’s political and cultural identity.
Cyprus Dispute: The ongoing dispute between Turkey and Cyprus is a major obstacle. Cyprus is an EU member, but Turkey does not recognize the Republic of Cyprus and maintains a military presence in Northern Cyprus, which it recognizes as a separate state. This unresolved conflict has blocked progress in Turkey’s EU accession negotiations.
Economic Concerns: Turkey’s economy has faced periods of instability, including high inflation and currency crises, raising concerns about its compatibility with the EU's economic standards and rules. Additionally, the economic disparity between Turkey and other EU countries has been a concern regarding the potential strain on EU financial resources.
EU Enlargement Fatigue: The EU has experienced "enlargement fatigue" after the rapid expansion in the 2000s. Some member states have grown more cautious about further enlarging the union, especially after the challenges posed by integrating new members and issues like Brexit.
While negotiations have taken place, they have stalled for several years, and Turkey's EU accession remains uncertain.

Even during the 2002-2012 period, when Turkey was allegedly "so close" to joining the alliance, Turkey had only completed one of the opened chapters. It's very obvious that Turkey is not fit for EU. It's very obvious that Turkey is very far away from being a Western country. I think Turkey is not fit for NATO either. For the Syria stuff and SDF, let me tell you that Turkey was the one that turned itself into a transit country through which 40k foreign jihadists from more than 100 countries traveled into Syria druing the early years of the Syrian civil war. At this point, it became a necessity for the West to partner with the Kurds to crush the ISIS after years of Turkish refusal to close its borders with Syria to foreign fighters.

Ursula and her fellow servants already tied themselves to the deep state financially, so they will continue to undermine the member countries' interests both financially and politically. The union has already cracked up, there are "representatives" who support the deep state by forcing to change the EU into USE, United States of Europe, which is a big fraud. I'd love to see Ursula and her accessories (partners in crime) being taken under arrest and sentenced to 30 yrs of imprisonment. Then, after giving them what they deserve, the EU could stand up again with new, really elected representatives who have morals, without the minds of criminals.

Outside of the EU the G7 nations have enormous problems. The UK is worst of all as it is utterly bankrupt and without industry & resources. UK energy reserves are now the lowest recorded in 60 years! Meanwhile the US is in decline and will have to deal with growing problems at home. Globally the US has falling prestige, exports and technological leadership. The US Dollar is losing the role as a global currency so inflation will be a big problem in the coming years.

    • @bolumuz

Very nice comment. I agree with you. In addition. European countries have to account for what they have gained from centuries of colonialism. China, Russia and Turkey have a great influence on France being expelled from African countries one by one. African countries are turning to new investments and new countries that value them instead of countries like France that have exploited them for years.
As the number one superpower in the world, the USA is bringing its own hegemony to an end by giving a hard time to many countries, especially Turkey, by imposing embargoes and applying double standards.
Turkey will make its position felt more in the future because it is geographically right in the middle of 3 continents. With Russia to the north, African countries open to development to the south, Europe to the west and countries such as China, India and Pakistan with large populations and economies to the east, and with its beautiful location right in the middle of the political, military and economic relations between these countries, Turkey can pursue much more effective politics in the future.
On the other hand.. As a Turk, I would like to say that there is a new formation called the Organization of Turkish States, which Turkey is also a part of. A union that will include both the Turkish states and countries that are much friendlier to Turkey, such as Pakistan and Qatar, will be a strong union in the world. Those who govern Turkey are planning the future especially through this union.
By following the US’s lead, and especially by taking sides in the Ukraine-Russia war and the Hamas-Israel war, European countries are leaving themselves both wrong and alone in the eyes of Asia, Africa and other weak countries. Israel’s attacks on Hamas, which does not even have a military force, with the support of the US and European countries, and also the fact that Western countries, who supposedly defend democracy and human rights, do not speak up about the tens of thousands of civilians massacred by Israel and do not even make calls for peace, reveal the deplorable state of Western countries.
Western countries will continue to get themselves into a dead end with this mindset. They need sensible politicians like Merkel. It is imperative for Europe to get rid of confused leaders like Macron and puppet leaders like Scholz. But, for me, they are too late
Note: I used translate for this article. I hope what I want to say is understandable.

The economic embargoes imposed by Europe on Turkiye, visa problems, the uninterrupted material, moral and weapon support of terrorist groups in Turkey for the last 40 years... These topics are very long. It has caused deep wounds that can no longer be compensated. Let's face it, Europe is a Christian club. They never wanted Turkiye there. Europe is telling Turkiye: Give me the island of Cyprus, give me all the oil and gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean, allow the establishment of a Kurd state in Eastern Anatolia, then maybe we will consider you joining our club. The European Union wants Turkey to prevent migration from third world countries to Europe. It demands that it be a good NATO ally. But at every opportunity, Turkey takes the opposite front. The EU supports the PKK, does not recognise the TRNC, sides with Greece in the Turkish-Greek conflict and imposes an embargo on Turkey at every opportunity. Even when Turkey has a problem with any state, EU countries compete with each other to be on the opposite side. The EU does not want Turkey to be an equal partner, but a kind of colonisation. Contrary to popular belief, the EU and the USA do not want Turkey to become a democratic state of law. That is why they are satisfied with the current government. Moreover, the EU is in a period of stagnation. Europe, which ruled the world a century ago, is today under the occupation of the USA. It has to do whatever the US says because the EU has no army that can be taken seriously. Economically, it has already lost the race with China and the USA.

The whole Caucasus Region, and even Ukraine, are in a faster track to EU membership than Turkey ever was and will ever be.
Plus, seeing the heavy NATO “price” they all paid and will keep on paying for generations to come,
I think Turkey is no longer falling any more for the EU-NATO-membership “carrots” but, more importantly, Turkey is learning how to play both its game and their “game”, and all of this as the the EEUU-UK-EU Atlantic Alliance is less and less calling the shots worldwide, particularly in the Middle East.

It is an astonishing thing that the EU still expects a customs union with Türkiye although Türkiye is not an EU member state.
This was a ropioff, implemented by the EU to keep Türkiye in the ropes, and they could easily get into the Turkish market without paying customs. The betrayal of the Turkish politicians to the country just for the sake of populist politics is another topic on itself. But the EU STILL expecting to have the customs union is really another level of hypocricy. Wow.

It has nothing to do with EU rules or "lack of democracy", (try to speak your mind in Germany). Their only problem with Turkiye is, they are not obedient, and through its geopolitical position Türkiye has another foreign policy to follow. Russia is our neighbour for nearly 1000 years, we cannot abondone the relationship to them like US/EU demands for example.
