There's callbacks to all the themes we hear when we reach the surface in the first game - the ocean overview, Persephone's abode, In the Blood as they travel back to the place they belong. It really feels like Supergiant heard all the folks who said they wished they could go to the surface more in the first game and said "what if I could do you one better?"
This song is a testament to what they made until this point, surpass themselves in every aspect, the end of the first game was just the beggining of a new adventure...
When I first heard On The Coast, I thought to myself, this is the most beautiful song I have ever heard, and probably will ever hear. I had a feeling there would be a reprise in the sequel and was just happy I would get to hear the same melodies again. Never in a million years did I think Darren would somehow top the original and make an even more beautiful, moving and serene piece. Hats off to you, Korb. Thank you for giving your genius to this game.
Ohh this - this is epic and also so so clever: it takes On the Coast and builds from it; like that original theme, so elegant but simple, was always a thread pulled from a tapestry. Of course Persephone's garden was a little piece of Olympus - of course it was. Words fail me, this is so -ing good all on its own and also as part of the bigger narrative ahhhhhhhhh!!
God tier OST. Not afraid to admit I teared up a little hearing this for the first time the other night, esp. w/ the context from Hades. Had to just let the vibes wash over me before moving onward. Proceeded to decimate some fools right when this reached full-tilt. All-time gaming moment of the year for me, personally. Although the surface as an environment was heavily alluded to in the recent major update, I was not ready for the musical themes from Hades 1's take on it to return like this. From 3:40 onward, I was truly gut-punched w/ the added choir and horns.
3:42 ...After a long hard search for a new home, you somehow stumbled upon a hidden clearance in the woods between Olympus and mortal realms. An area untouched by clamity and strife. As you opt to get a closer look, you can't help but take note of a faint heavenly presence in the air. It's Persephone's garden on the surface, a cosy little place once protected from the wraith of ever-changing seasons. But alas, the changing of times has now set upon this humble abode. The well-kept greenery has long since consumed itself among the thickets. Any signs of the goddesse's handiwork were lost under the shadow of the setting sun.
You, my sibling in arms, are hearing lemotifs from Hades 1. And they are of some of the most impactful lemotifs, echoing back to a great triumph. Your body remembers that time, even if you conciously might not.
Hades already kind of surpassed my next favourite soundtrack, World of Goo, so it’s kind of fun that I got a Goo vibe from the brassy new versions of existing motifs. This sequel really does go above and beyond the original, and I’m here for it!
That was so EPIC. This reminds me of the scene where Zagreus appears on the surface and finds his mother Persephone in Hades 1. May all the deities on Mount Olympus protect the world. Together, we can all prevail.
gently fascinated by the complete stylistic shift from hades i + hades ii underworld and surface --> olympus like granted we've never been able to get close to the olympian gods despite all attempts in both games so it was 100% warranted but??? idk. this studio man. every part of the game development goes insanely hard
Oh my god the on the cost lietmotif goes craaaazy
the underworld's got orpheus's lute but the surface has flute
Surface has more brassy and Fluteish instruments
Ya probably cuz of all the fresh air they got up there
@@wangledteb5671 and also maybe being alive enough to breathe
@@terilerke1849 LMAO yeah that's gotta play into it too

THE MIX OF PERSEPHONES SONG IN THE OLD GAME??? OH MY GOD????
I thought about same thing my friend
OLYMPUS I ACCEPT THIS UPDATE
Tears lowkey rolled into my eyes when I heard Persephone's garden theme at the end there...
no same i actually cant stop crying
We are Ascending with This one boys
Hearing On The Coast when I first reached Olympus earlier gave me those feelings of beating Hades for the first time, incredible callback
right!!! the chills were unreal
then you get absolutely plumbed by prometheus
So THAT'S why they got a whole new orchestra!! BRILLIANT!
I'm so glad that as part of Supergiant going all out for Hades II, we get even more orchestral tracks in the soundtrack. Just superb.
This song is a testament to what they made until this point, surpass themselves in every aspect, the end of the first game was just the beggining of a new adventure...
3:40 this point onward, the first time i heard it i literally cried. Its just so damn moving.

ATE CHEWED SWALLOWED DEVOURED ABSOLUTELY GLUTTONOUS!!!!!!!!!!
When I heard the first notes of the "On the Coast", I thought "Oh Darren, you little b*"
Gave me chills when I first heard it in game, absolutely love the callback to the old Persephone theme.

3:35 to 4:40 is some of the absolute hardest shit I've ever heard. Darren Korb is fantastic, Immaculate, even.
i love this one. the ending bit is just peak man.

The aspect of persephone of the skulls scares me due to the
*implications*
Why am I getting goosebumps when hearing this?
Omg same.

Personally it also reminds me of Act V in Diablo 2, it gives me a nostalgic feeling
This sounds like the battle theme of a Odyssean Movie
The progression from 3:41 onwards actually makes me tear up, what an incredible piece
My mind can't even fathom the beauty I just heard.
The trumpet at 3:03 is **chef's kiss**
If they use the later half of this song for the family's reunion, it will be the end of me
If this doesn’t appear on my Spotify wrapped (it’s all I’ve been listening to since it released on there) I’ll riot
Istg my soul ascended to Olympus for a hot sec
This is so stunning. The chills...
The character of the horns is just 🤌🤌🤌
This might be the greatest of all time
Darren korb love you from brazil
Superb!

Wonderful
3:02 IN THE BLOOD lets gooooo !!!
Am I the only one getting Gustav Holst - Saturn vibes from the second half?
Very fitting as Saturn is the Roman equivalent of Chronos.
Waiting for the spotify upload. Epic song !!!
That was so EPIC. This reminds me of the scene where Zagreus appears on the surface and finds his mother Persephone in Hades 1.
May all the deities on Mount Olympus protect the world. Together, we can all prevail.
Do I detect some notes from Cupiero’s archeological compositions around the edges on this one? Brilliant; a truly amazing work.
gustav holst would be proud of darren kotb for composing this
3:42 Where real men cry
To me, this sounds like the theme of Harrogat from Diablo II.
Anyone else hearing the reminiscence?

This sounds like a part of a movie's OST
Mom 😢
anyone else getting harrogath from diablo 2 vibes from the intro?
This motive sounds like this... in Greek
