No, not a direct sequel. Sunsoft came back with Astra Superstars in 1998 which is the successor (in the same way Waku Waku 7 was the successor to Galaxy Fight). It was released on the Sega ST-V Titan hardware. As a result, it was easily ported to the Sega Saturn accurately. Try it out, if you haven't. It's fun!!

The final boss's full name is "Makai Tai Tei Fernandeath", but it is shortened to Fernandeath (in Japan), which becomes Fernandez (in the international releases). The way "Fernandeath" is pronounced somehow resembles the way Spaniards pronounce the word "Fernandez", which is a Spanish surname, by the way.
