I am 65 years old. Most of the things, musically speaking, from my younger days I find sadly lacking (maybe it's because I don't have a bong anymore). But Steely Dan is still on my list. I've been listening to The Dan for nigh on 50 years and they still astonish me with every thing about them. If you are a Steely Dan fan, you know what I mean.

I’m a big Steely Dan fan, but I gotta say, beyond the early years, they were not so much a band as a duo who hired people to record and/or tour with them. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got no problem with that (although a lot of fans of the early Steely Dan did have a problem with it), but they somehow don’t seem to fit in the category of “band.” Maybe they created their own category?

There isn't anything in the music business today of this caliber, yes, they basically were a studio band, but whenever they played live, the two of them knew just what set of musicians would tour with them, and in the studio they were known to be two of the toughest critics of the tracks that these top of the line studio musicians were laying down, until they heard the sound they were looking for, that's why I rank AJA as one of the top three albums of all time.......🎶🎵🎷🎸🎹🎺🎤
