    1:00:16 if you're looking for a better explanation of what macros are, here's the time stamp (i know it's farther into the video than when i first talk macros, so wanted to leave it here). i am doing a What I Eat In a Day portion of the next vlog that shows you the macro breakdown of meals, talks about how to count macros/use a food scale etc :)

    I’m a doctor. I’d like to thank you for doing actual research and providing your audience with factual information. There’s so much misinformation about PCOS online and I’m glad you were able to weed through that. It’s really difficult to counsel patients with PCOS because we never want to come off as fat shaming. I think a lot of doctors do not talk about this aspect because some patients get upset when doctors bring up their weight or eating habits. However, the reality is metabolism plays a big role in keeping PCOS symptoms at bay long-term. Like you said it is the best place to start and the number one recommended “treatment” for PCOS. Even before birth control pills. Thank you again for this video and the amazing details. I wish you luck on your journey!

    Thank you for recognizing the privilege that having a more flexible schedule and more time to devote to your health has. As a teacher, I get super tuned into my health in the summers. I am outside for hours a day, at the gym, cooking and prepping all of my meals etc. Once school rolls around I am getting up at 5 for work, getting home at 5 or 6 & it feels like I’m doing everything to keep my head above water to spend my hour or two of free time just to cook a meal, clean and rest my body/brain before bed. I know plenty of people have busy stressful lives & can still find success with their health. I just still appreciate the acknowledgment that it adds a whole different beast to the situation!!

    I literally just started but I want to say that it's so relieving to hear you have compassion and love for the old you. I see so many people on weight loss journies borderline hate their old bodies and start talking shit about it and it's just so sad. It's like they lose all empathy for themselves and it often also feels like they lose empathy for other people. As someone who's struggling with weight thanks to endometriosis and other chronic health stuff, it makes asking for help really difficult

    • @chan_ainsley
      @chan_ainsley  4 месяца назад +4

      you're spot on. when navigating online spaces i try to steer clear of people who use really negative/ugly language when speaking about their old bodies or other peoples' bodies. it's just... not motivating to me at all. i don't know how you can build long term habits with self love if you can't be compassionate with yourself! any time i've used negative self talk as my motivation, it never lasts. especially since a lot of this stuff is out of our control (genetics, chronic health issues etc like you mentioned).

    Really love and appreciate this video Chandler! I just three weeks ago decided I’m done. I’m done being such an unhealthy and unhappy version of myself. I have 50 pounds to lose to be what is considered healthy. This is my last year of getting to be a stay at home mom and I’m not going to waste another year on nothing but excuses! I have been consistent on a minimum of 10K steps a day and a calorie deficit. But finally got a gym membership and eventually want to progress into doing weights. So this is really inspiring and love watching your journey and that you are sharing it with us!

It's so hard because so often people talking about weight loss or PCOS are trying to sell something. I appreciate the genuine advice! I'm feeling more motivated than ever! Hearing you be so vulnerable about the journey and discussing the need for internal work really resonated. Some of these habits are hard to break, but hearing your approach is great.

    love how candidly and thoughtfully you speak about your journey. i've lost a little more than 100 lbs naturally over the last 2 years and relate a lot to what you said about the mental/emotional confidence boost. i straight up hated myself for years and thought losing weight would "fix" me, cure my severe depression, make people like me, etc. what actually happened was i finally started to feel compassion for myself when i recognized my capacity for self-discipline. i had no expectations for myself before. now i find joy in showing up for myself, giving myself nourishing food, not overeating to the point of pain and exercising for fun instead of punishment. losing weight didn't fix me, caring for myself helped me become the person i actually wanted to be. ❤

    I'm about to start a calorie deficit journey and this was really encouraging. I've tried some more extreme things in the past and they just don't work for me. I've been pretty good about adding more balance and leaning into some healthier habits that I already enjoy just to get used to them being a daily experience rather than a "hey I did that once this week and I'm proud of that" kind of thing. The internet is a daunting place even when you know how to discern it and it has left me mentally exhausted, but this video left me encouraged 💜

    ❤️ the first part talking about growing up skinny… that’s my situation too. Wow, I feel so seen. Thank you for this. I’m 29 and have always been thin genetically- 5’7” and 125 lbs and hadn’t gained a pound until after college. A lot of people commented on my body throughout my life-mostly positively outside of the jokes about my smaller chest, but it also lead me to devaluing myself because it was always about my figure and not about my smile or kindness, etc. so later on, after a LOT of stress in my life post college, COVID with an immunocompromised mom, my father passing away in 2022, etc., I’ve gained so much weight. It really affected my self-confidence, happiness and ability to want to go out and be in the world. Didn’t feel like myself. It was a lot. Now, I’m 28 pounds down, feeling so much better mentally and physically. Us being on this journey at the same time has been crazy motivating and helpful. You’re amazing. You’re doing great things. ❤️

      for PCOS, a calorie deficit works but it can be hard to stay in because a lot of us/most of us have metabolic issues. insulin resistance can make us REALLY REALLY hungry. for me, the focus on protein has helped to curb a lot of the insatiable hunger. now, i get hungry right before a meal but it feels so different than the hunger i was experiencing before.
      also, for me, realizing that weight loss is slow but happening is important. at the beginning it was tempting to try and cut more calories when the weight didn't seem to be moving. but most of the time, if we calculate our TDEE correctly the weight WILL come off. water, muscle soreness, hormones, can affect what we see on the scale.
      all of that to say, i wish you all the best and hope you're able to get to your desired weight in a fun, safe, sustainable way

      Have you ever had any tests done to see if your thyroid functions normally? I have friends who struggle with PCOS and have found out they also have thyroid disorders (one autoimmune disease means you’re more likely to have others I guess?) that make weight loss harder. I don’t have PCOS as far as I know, but I do have a thyroid disorder and I can unfortunately really relate to your comment about only losing weight in such an extreme deficit that it’s unmanageable

    25:18 this is something i remind myself and anybody who does not have the will to continue or start a workout or do some exercise.. the fats, carbs and protein are all normal in moderation but our body needs extra help by using muscles which is moving, moving in a way that increases heart rate.. so they don't become stored as 'extra'.. and our body needs to move more when we age in order to burn more.

    It is important to state your exercise is apart of your weight-loss plan. This because you are factoring it in your calorie deficit as your activity level. Without that activity, you would burn less and eat less.

    • @chan_ainsley
      @chan_ainsley  3 месяца назад

      i think i was pretty clear about why i exercise. yes, any level of activity will burn calories and will contribute to a deficit. but working out with the intention of "burning off calories" is pretty silly and a trap i find people fall into FAR too often. going on a run so you can eat a donut is pretty toxic. i work out for longevity. it affords me a couple hundred extra calories a day via my chosen activity level. so, not a meaningful contributor to weight loss.
