It's fascinating how perspectives change over time. Back then, the Atari Jaguar felt so underwhelming compared to the Super Nintendo and SEGA CD that I had no interest in it. Today, having a perfectly emulated Jaguar is amazing-it’s a piece of that exciting era when everything felt new and groundbreaking. The same goes for the Sega Saturn. I never owned one, as I had a PSX, which was the best console of its time. But now, I truly enjoy seeing the Sega Saturn perfectly emulated.
It’s great that now Jaguar is fully playable and easy to do so for everyone. The more preservation the better

I can relate to that. In the late 90s or early 2000s (can't remember for sure), I had a Jag, Jag CD and some of the better games, AVP etc. I remember feeling pity for Atari, as playing Cybermorph clearly looked like a massive fail. Pity was the exact feeling, how could they have fallen so much?! Now in 2024, I have another Jag (not the same unit), Gamedrive, a decent set of cartridges. Now I absolute love it, I'd rank it as my FAVORITE console of ALL TIME, right next to the N64. How on Earth?? Well, for reasons very similar to why VGE is fascinated by Hyper NeoGeo 64 or 3DO. There's just something there that touches the sweet spot. It's amazing how one console can go from feeling pity about it, to being the favorite of all time. Amazing that is. Well, it also helps I played my original unit with RF signal, and now it's all RGB with framemeister. Better video quality def makes you appreciate more a console.
For this emulator to come out of nowhere and be as amazing as it turned out to be was one of my biggest emulation surprises of the past year. This was a console severely lacking in preservation and out of nowhere Rich dropped this on us all to enjoy. Even more amazing is that the company he was working for (which was looking to either remake and/or re-release a Jaguar game or two allowed him while under contract to provide this emulator for free. That is something very few employees would be given the chance to do and I think it is important to celebrate it.
What did you steal from your friends house this time? 🤣

Hopefully, with this and the Jag core for Mister, more people will get the chance to experience the Jag and realize it's actually awesome. VGE, as you're a big 3DO fan (so am I), don't you think the Jag almost seems like a 3DO cousin? I love them both, and the way I see it, they're very very similar. 3DO (for me) feels exactly like what the Jag would have been if it had CD from day 1, and large developers (EA and Crystal Dynamics). They both offer similar feels, me thinks.
It has 3DO vibes but I’d say it’s got the much less desirable library. That being said it’s got a few fun titles worth playing

@@VideoGameEsoterica lots of respect for your opinion (of course!), but I feel like excluding 3DO's super heavy weights like Gex, Road Rash, Horde, and Need for Speed, which these are for sure timeless classics, I feel the Jag can go toe to toe with its own heavy hitters, like AVP (obviously), Raiden, Rayman, Skyhammer, Another World (only hardcore Jag fans know about these) etc. Even if I take my Jag bias out of the way, I like to think they're quite similar in quality and number of worthy titles. Both got a lot of trash, but both got a lot of gems people don't know much about. Well, that is coming from a 3DO fan too, love them both.
Definitely don't forget about the enhancement scripts. Get silky smooth game play with Checker Flag, Doom in game music, stereo 3d sbs for avp :) what a great time for Jaguar lovers! I am on over load as collector of many systems so many great projects.
@VideoGameEsoterica "Checkered Flag for the Atari Jaguar, Made Incredible by BigPEmu" search this it's older but has good info. Last thing I saw was multi player for avp.
As expected from the emulator at the heart of Atari 50, and the developer that rescued and made playable the only existing Sega VR game in existence. It's just too bad he's not willing to expand into CoJag support, but that's a very small minus. Great tutorial! 💪🏻
Have you tried the Video Light Machine (aka VLM) that is built into the CD-ROM device (emulated properly in BigPEmu)? I have only tried physical audio CDs with it thus far but it works great. I'd say it is one reason to play with the CD portion. It was made by Jeff Minter.
We need a controller that has a numpad to accurately map the Jaguar controls. Same problem for intellivision and CollecoVision emulation. Such a controller would need to emulate the 16 way joystick of the Intellivision controller though.
@@VideoGameEsoterica On a video you should not talk as you do face to face. And esp. you might want that not only native speaker watch you video. So I recommend to speek a little slower.

Yeah nobody really knew it was in development til one day it just showed up
I'm excited to check out the VR stuff! I didn't even know it existed! I remember playing a Virtuality machine at the mall 30 years ago.
It’s very small library wise but very interesting
So hopeful we can get a retroarch core for this amazing emulator. Developer is an awesome guy.
I’m sure a RetroArch core will eventually arrive. They always do
Every time I touch my Jaguar controller I turn into Jeremy Clarkson. "Honey, get the Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag"

Jaguar had some great games. IMO 3DO just had more great games

I finished Blue Lightning one day, I was very happy to see end FMV, today I think I would be disappointed ^^ (like Vid Grid in fact !)
It’s a fun game. One of the few reasons to play Jag CD
@@VideoGameEsoterica Indeed, especially for the rock soundtrack ;)
uff...I really want that jaguar core on mister get single ram support!
Maybe towards the end but zero promises

Aside from requiring one less piece of hardware, what benefit would single ram support bring?
Just more compatibility with builds out there

CoJag would be fun but I get it. Lot of work for not much payoff

No I actually haven’t tried that yet. I’ll have to give it a go
Would love to see the VR tutorial. I’ve had some success with using a Meta Quest 2 but performance tanks and audio stutters.
I’ll look into it in the future :)
Such a great emulator, I tested it last week. Too bad that most of the games aren't so great.
There’s a few games worthwhile
@ Anyway Rich Whitehouse is very talented and I hope that he will work on any other kind of emulator soon or later. 😉
You never know
You should use a later version dude. The timestamp on your download is from a year ago. Lots of improvements since then
The tutorial is consistent even if it’s an earlier build. So I did not change it

There is a USB adapter now to use real Jaguar controllers
I’d be into a tutorial for how to run VR games.
I’ll consider it soon :)!
Does this qualify as a Caturday!?
Bubsyday
There was as much work put into the front end of this emulator as the emulator itself.
The UI is one of the best
It would be easier and more aggreable to watch if you would not speak so quick! Are you on escape?
