I know they say this show was controversial as to not depicting a black family realistically but the truth is not all black families are the same! I was an Air Force brat and when my parents divorced I was raised by a single mother who worked as a ward manager at a large hospital and our life was pretty similar to Julia's and Cory's. My mother was pretty and refused to let me and my twin speak improperly. She was kind of like a black Martha Stewart and I guess the ideal 60's mother to anyone looking in. We didn't live in a ghetto, weren't poor but we weren't Bel Aire rich just middle class surviving decently. That was one reason I liked this show, aside from the fact that you just didn't see black people often, it was realistic to me. And watching these episodes now it's so nostalgic that I end up crying sometimes - good tears and sad tears too. The episodes where Julia's color is shown to be an issue touch me deeply although thank God that never was an issue for me growing up. I didn't know about prejudice till Roots and what a shock that was. Thank you, Diahann fan for uploading this wonderful and encouraging show of yore!
I agree with you. Just because there was no male head of household that's supposed to be controversial? She was in an honored profession which requires intelligence and hard work. Raising her son to be great man one day on her own, which happens a lot nowadays. I guess if this came out now, no one would say very much.
Agreed! There were two parents in Good Times and those folks struggled EVERY SINGLE DAY! It makes sense that the stuggle was indeed more difficult for a lot of blk families. But I believe that just the same as any other race, not all families were the same.
Why was this unrealistic? She wasn't rich she was single, lived in an Apartment, nothing great about that, think of all the other shows that was on tv at that time they were better off than this family. I guess if your black you must always be poor and really uneducated and overweight and unattractive. Its tv and to be honest a lot of white families couldn't add up to family affair. Gidgette, bewitch or whatever else that was on tv at that time Brady bunch. They really didn't focus on poor white America at that time on tv, but for some reason they were quick to change the narrative when the black family came to tv.
Bobby Brown you can make your house and children look perfect but you had to be au garde on what's happening outside like black people's rights and civil rights. can you dig it?
I was a little girl when this show was on and I loved it. Loved Diahann Carroll, thought she was gorgeous. She was also great on Dynasty, going up against Alexis.
Thank you fan club, I am so happy to have found this series. I have loved Diahann Carroll’s works of movies and music. I watched this show as a child and it’s a joy to watch them all over again.
Thank you for posting these wonderful episodes! I still can't believe I never saw this show nor even heard of this show and I'm over half a century old... wonderful tv show, thank you!
I'm a little confused as to why Vic told her to wear something sexy and it was initially played off like they were going on a date. I mean I'm glad it wasn't bc I was like "Eww he's your dead husband's friend" but still, they made us think it was.
I greatly admire the way Diahann Carrol dress, act and carry herself with pride, dignity and grace.
I appreciate Diahann Carroll's legacy.

That was similar to my own experiences. Middle class, held to high standards. Didn't know of race issues until "Roots."
Thank you for sharing your story.

Sure can. You be safe also
yeah, at that time not too many black women had long hair, but I will say everyone had edges unlike today.
She looks like Nicki Minaj to me ❤.
Oh, so Earl didn't believe Cory's dad was a hero until the white man said it? Gotcha 🤣! This was fun
😄
What a tool you are. Earl just kept asking and he did not believe any answer from any race over any other. Dummy
