This show was groundbreaking but what many don't know is that it was also innovative, It was probably the first time that a TV comedy sitcom didn't have a laugh track.
I was 7 years old when this series first aired. I grew up and for years wanted to be a nurse, just like Julia! It wasn’t until I was 14 and volunteering at a hospital that I realized nursing wasn’t the career for me.
In 1968, Diahann Carroll remarked: "At the moment we're presenting the white Negro. And he has very little Negroness." The Saturday Review's Robert Lewis Shayon wrote that Julia's "plush, suburban setting" was "a far, far cry from the bitter realities of Negro life in the urban ghetto, the pit of America's explosion potential." Julia received good ratings the first two seasons but dropped out of the top 30 most-watched shows during season 3. In 1971, the series was canceled, reportedly because of Carroll's and series creator and executive producer Hal Kanter's desire to work on other projects.
Thank you so much! Where did you find this copy? It's the only full-length version of this episode I've found (Aspire cuts 3-4 minutes out of each episode :( )
I believe that is the "Airporter" version of the Checker company's station wagon. It's the same make, but larger model as the cab Deniro drove in "Taxi Driver" 1976 Have you ever seen Richard Pryor and Harvey Keitel's 1978 motion picture "Blue Collar" which was partially filmed at the Checker factory in Detroit?
Thank you miss Fan for these golden memoryes. I hope they stay. I'm watching them over and over and over😊😊

I've heard a little canned laughter in at least one episode. The pilot episode I think.
Groundbreaking and Legendary 💕

“A pale Portier” 💀💀💀
This lady must be used to stage acting because she is extremely animated.
What is the name of the other nurse in Julia?
...Actress Lurene Tuttle portrays Nurse Hannah Yarby.
