This is an excellent and refreshing change from the Duolingo Irish course which takes ages and doesn't actually teach that much vocabulary really. I don't feel left out in favour of those who have done at least some Irish at school.

Starting to get by with only passively watching the subtitles now. A fair bit is coming across easily. For a long time I didn't think I'd ever reach this point, but I guess we have no excuse to complain about lack of resources when people like you are making these essential and extremely helpful videos :)

This is the best explanation I have had so far. Most others I have heard go into a more philosophical explanation ending with "native speakers just inherently know"

    •  Год назад +2

Go raibh maith agat 😁 I’m very happy it helped! I think it’s one of those things that can get overcomplicated and then not explained very well as a result.

Very clear for us beginners, the two nouns, that's helpful. Also, I never know where to put the é, or other pronouns. Sometimes it has two pronouns. Would appreciate more videos on this. Your explanations are easier to remember. Go raibh maith agat.

      Memorize every noun lol

    • @salbarresi347
      @salbarresi347 Год назад +1

Unfortunately it’s not like Spanish. There are a few patterns. But they have exceptions for the most part. For example most words that end in -lann ar feminine.
      Bialann
      Pictiúrlann
      Iarsmalann
      Leabharlann

      Most jobs are macúilne
      Múinteoir
      Leictreoir
      Pluiméir
      Doictiúr (check Spelling)
      Etc

    •  Год назад

Basically what Sal said 😅 there are a lot of different patterns but so many exceptions. I recommend learning the gender of the most commonly used nouns and then you can always check on focloir.ie - it will tell you beside the noun if it’s masculine or feminine. You’ll also be able to recognise if a noun is masculine or feminine by the way it changes after the definite article, mar shampla, an t-airgead (masculine nouns that begin with a vowel have a t- after ‘an’)

Isn't "tá sí ina duine maith" more like "she is being good"? Meaning, she is not really a good person, just playing to be one right now? After all, being a teacher is a role, not an intrinsic characterization of a person.
Are these variants used as entirely interchangeable?

From a non European. Is Gaeilge taught in schools? Many Irish people DO NOT speak the language.
Why do people Only speak it on the coasts. I do know that in Wales, Welsh IS taught in schools!

    •  Год назад +2

Yes it is taught, it’s mandatory at school but the education system is flawed. There’s actually a campaign going on at the moment gaeilge4all.ie/ . Also, a lot of people might claim not to know it because they don’t know much and are nervous to use the little they do know

@ Thank You. The wonderful Irish youtuber "Clisare" did a video in Dublin and asked the locals.
If they spoke Irish. It was surprising and sad. She said what you said, most ptretend Not to know it or speak it. I really
admire people like yourself AND Clisare who are IRISH AND PROUD OF IT!
