Oddly enough, this exact topic has been on my mind a lot lately. I recently took the time to step back and reflect on what gun ownership means to me and it helped me identify several areas I have been neglecting/overlooking. It was helpful to break things down into smaller identifiable goals and begin to move towards them according to their priority. As such I've shifted mindset from 'get another gun' to 'just finish one' and by finish it I don't just mean the firearm, I mean the accompanying gear and skills as well. Can you stop the bleed? If faced with a hostile force how will you carry extra mags? If you get lost on a hunt can you start a fire? The firearm is just one part of the overall system.

@@DontHasselHoff we shoot a lot at home and much more since getting on RUclips. I shoot an untouched Glock 19. I don’t tinker with the life saver. I think I do need a sling and a light for the rifle.
It's funny, when I was young outfitting with accessories was half the fun and half the effort. But now that I'm in my 60's, I've been leaning back to the simple striped down original versions for simplicity, and to shed bulk and weight. Plus I've also been leaning back to the original architecture from the so called "assault" rifle architecture.
Slings are an important tool to include on your rifle, whether they are two-point or single-point. However, the most important thing to have are backup iron sights if you mainly use an optic of any type. Batteries die, glass breaks, weather conditions can negatively affect them. Finally, a mounted flashlight is also a critical option to consider.
I don't have enough guns, but I can say any weapon meant for defense has an optic, a light and a sling. We only got two hands so I kinda focus on one rifle and one pistol per shooter
I was attacked too lol but I don’t feel like I need to put lights and slings on guns that I don’t intend on using for anything other than going to the range and having fun with them. I have designated rifles and pistols rigged up for carry/or SHTF stuff
The order I get firearms related items are in the order I feel they may become difficult to procure in the future. So for the last 10 or so years it has been. 1 Firearms. 2 Magazines. 3 Ammunition. 4. If needed, iron sights. If I’m going to use a firearm for a particular purpose like home defense, carry, hunting or a shooting competition I will finish fitting it out with the gear I will need. If it’s just something I take to the range I can swap optics, lights slings… My thinking is that if the federal or my state government ever succeeded in restricting our firearms rights they will go after restricting the first 3on my list and I will have the time to get all the rest of the gear. Additionally, in the majority of cases it’s the guns, mags and ammo that manufactures discontinue that I want and the longer I wait to get them, the better the lights, sights and other accessories become.
Well if your AR comes without a rear aperture then you definitely need a rear aperture sight. If you can’t aim at what you’re shooting at that should be your first priority
james yeager always told stories about people bringing glocks to class that were all tricked out and would fail constantly, then he would put all the orig parts back in them and they started running flawlessly again.

I think the majority of us started out buying more parts than needed and or really wanted before completing a build. I have 2 giant Rubbermaid containers of parts from triggers, slings, lights, barrels and handguards. I have the obvious repair parts and extras in case something happens and I need to fix a bcg or gas tube and a pile of buffer springs and buffer weights but after that year of collecting and changing out parts that won't be used, I learned to decide what I wanted before buying anything.
Thank you soo much guys!!! Just got a sling from John but no swivels yet. I bought a S&W sport ll. I so want to upgrade. Thank you for yall keeping on the right path. Great stuff!!!
Highesy priority accessory besides spare mags i think would be sights. I own a Ruger Mini 14 from the 188 series and the flip down rear peep sight is just hot garbage. Adjusting it was a pain in the butt so i just bought a Tech-Sight for it. Same thing with my Marlin Camp 9 and Model 60. Irons were useable but i slapped a Hawke 3-9×50 scope on both and they are just a blast now out to 100 yards
You had a gun with circles in the wood stock. I saw a British testing site turned into a museum that used to put these circles on to mark their examples. This was on their website.
One very important thing if you’re getting a pistol and plan a light for it make sure there are several holster options for the planned firearm/light combination. Been there done that, the light has never been out of the box. I own 2 slings if mice haven’t ate them. I don’t like them and find them in the way.
As a hobby I make custom leather holsters. Buddy asked me to make him one. I usually need the pistol for a day or two to make sure the holster fits properly. He told me it was his only handgun. I was flabbergasted. He looked at me kinda crazy when I said " wtf I have 3 on me right now ". I loaned him a revolver to carry while I finish the holster.
about a year and a half ago i acquired a Ruger AR-556 - bought some iron sights and a sling at the same time that i picked it up from the FFL, have had a "blast" with it so far - at some point i might put some optics on it but i'm not in a big hurry. if i come across a good deal on something good for this rifle i might think about it ............
I don't like to buy a gun that I can't shoot right out of the box because it takes time to be able to buy an optic and everything so decent iron sights are a must

I quit watching around 8:00 but if you are using a firearm for home defense then the first thing you need to spring for is a weapon light. This isn't really negotiable. You need to identify your targets and it is night time about half the time.
I understand some things having just crap triggers, but to many people are trigger snobs that if it ain't the perfect weight and pull they freak out. I say adjust yourself to the feel of what you carry, and if you practice enough it will feel just fine.

Not every gun needs to be "kitted out". If its a defensive tool that you carry every day or sits besides the bed for those bumps in the night, than yes quality kit needs to be on it. But if the gun is just a range toy, and lets admit most of our guns are just range toys, then its ok if that gun doesn't have all the Gucci gear hanging off it.
Most important accessory to get first ? For a more old school " traditional " rifle, the first thing you should buy is a good set of peep sights for it. Next a sling if you're going to pack it around.
And after magazines and sites, optics, slings and flashlights, think of a battle belt, chest rig or plate carrier to hold magazines and medical supplies.
I like building rifles fully custom. Definitely requires more tuning. But as for accessories I don’t like putting more than a sight, foregrip, and sling.
Talking about the people who buy nice guns and lower grade equipment, I kinda went the other way with a PSA AR with an EOTECH 558, Streamlight Protac, Spectre Gear sling :P
I tend to only make changes that improve function. Stiffer recoil spring in the 1911. Better magazines. Better sights. Better safety. In your own home, turn on the lights. Don't sneak through your own home in the dark.
I am a collector of great handguns. None of them have electronic things on them. Trijicon night iron sights, slings as appropriate for rifles. Factory everything.
The last thing I would put on my home defense firearm is a sling. I don't want to reach for it in the dark and be encumbered by a strap. If I plan to carry a rifle for any distance greater than the length of my house, I may use one, but I don't see the need for one by my bed. Please adjust Chad's Ritalin dosage.
Extra magazines are great. Thank goodness I had got some for the Thompson 45 back in 1980. The last gun show I went to years ago, the 30rd stick magazines were going for $100 each. I found some recently for $69 and bought one. May buy more later, but I have other priorities that come first. What kind of sling can I put on it? It has the pistol grip type forend on it.
Guilty!! At least my main "bump in the night guns" are outfitted for all those capable in the family (wife and young ones). I do have a couple of builds in the process. I can't finish my long range rig because other "goodies" keep catching my eye!!
Fist thing is iron sites, second sling, last red dot the end. I don't do lights on my guns. I keep emergency lights on in my house. Lights let bad guys see you.
As I was hiking with my dad carrying my rifle and realized I forgot my gloves. Its 28* and winds whistling through the trees. I took that buy and use a sling thing to heart.
Cz P10 pistols buy one then its new barrel, HBI trigger, steel guide rod and 14Ib spring, and apex extended slide release. Then 3 more magazine and more.
Think first by far would be sights ,red dot or scope would be the first thing to put on ur gun . Can't shoot it accurately without them.unless u bought it with 1 already on it . Then I'd say a good light laser would be next on the list .
To me the most important accessory is to practice, get the muscle memory. How good is a $5000 gun with all the mod cons, if you fumbling in a real situation.

I like the "B-Cam" angle .
I specifically remember one following him home from Fort Worth Texas LOL
Eric, question. What is that rifle with the white engraved stock to the right of you please tell.
Less is more, minimum accessories, adequate ammo, maximum training
To me the most important accessory is to practice, get the muscle memory. How good is a $5000 gun with all the mod cons, if you fumbling in a real situation.
I feel like Erick and Chad are singling me out on this gun grips video
In order. Standard cap mags, sling, vertical foregrip, optic, tac light, drum mag, suppressor, bayonet.
How about the trinity rule? 3 at most per gun, most likely, flashlight, optic and suppressor?
Hi, I really like your videos, but I have a question. I would like to know how many yards does the browning 22lr reach at the centlo de la Cruz? Thank you

Hey guys!! Love the video but I still need help, please. 3 handguns; Springfield 1911 Loaded 5” barrel, gen 1 M&P shield 9, and S&W SD9VE. Best budget light (all 3) and red dot for S&W’s. I don’t know where to start
Yup, the first thing I thing of when buying a gun is “what sights/optics am I putting on this?”
I have two comments one I got suckered into an NcStar once about 15 years ago and it's been phenomenally perfect except you can't see crap at night with the light on it's a 2.5 to 10 power and a 2.5 with the light on low it works fine as long as you don't plan on seeing out of the scope just look at the radical with both eyes open you can shoot at night but as far as glass clarity holding zero tracking great with it my AR shoots three quarter inch groups easily at 10 power of course I took it off the gun the other day replaced it with a primary arms to power GLX prism suits my needs much better the things amazing three-quarter inch groups no not anymore fast accurate shake awake thank you
Love what you guys are doing!! Keep it up!
